In passing, I told the manager, George, that he could go ahead and fix any minor scratches that he thought would be worthwhile, as long as the cost overruns were kept to a minimum. The guys kept my car longer than initially scheduled and the entire process cost a few extra hundred bucks, but when I got my car back it looked brand new. We are talking a 6 year Honda that has criss-crossed the entire continent. They made it look absolutely brand new. For an absolutely pittance, I got a brand new car. Bottom line here is that if you are looking for a fast and dirty service, go somewhere else. But if you want the job to be well done, thorough, and professional, than come to Park Lane Auto Body. So I called the latter for an appointment which they gave me for the next day at 8.30am. Arriving there on time, my thought process is how much time I will spend there and above all, is this going to cost me a fortune. At the reception, the lady was super nice and very professional. She was expecting me, and had all the details of my vehicle and the verification that needs to be done, and asked me to pull my car in. A few minutes later, the mechanic lifted the car up and less than 5 minutes later he had already diagnosed the problem and recommended that he will just remove part of the exhaust and solder another piece, rather than replacing the whole exhaust. He completed the job on the time estimated and at 9.31 am, I was paying the bill and left. It was nowhere I thought it would cost me, and totally amazed by the level of expertise and professionalism of the entire team. They are the muffler experts! Low and behold, as I watched them fix my car, all they did was repair the flex tube which goes to the manifold. NOW HERE IS THE KICKER....he still wanted to charge me $320. The mechanic then accompanies me to the office where he tells the girl behind the desk that he never said there was an issue with the manifold, another guy that appeared to be more of a mechanic (or a manager) comes to tell me that to replace a manifold is over $500. Then I respond to him, "what is your hourly rate?", the mechanic took 30 minutes and the pipe cant be more that $50. He replies that they work by "job", not by hour and accuses me of not wanting to pay for services that he rendered. He goes further to say that they are human beings and a family business and continues to insinuate that I'm at fault and that I don't want to pay. I explain to the gentlemen that he is not dealing with an idiot. If the mechanic had said he would have simply repaired a flex pipe for $320, I would have never agreed to such ridicules price. I explained that even at $150 hourly rate, plus the cost of the flex pipe, my bill should not be greater than $200. I guess he knew that he could not hold my car for payment because he said "do you want to leave without paying?" and I responded that I was not there to cheat him but did not want to be cheated either. I upped my price to $250 and he charged me $250 plus taxes (my offer included the taxes) but I paid any way. BE WARNED....these people try to come across as honest, BUT THEY ARE ANYTHINHG BUT !!!!!!! Not only is Richard bilingual (french/english) but he is also very knowledgeable. The first time he ordered a hard to find part for me, and didn't charge any mark-ups. Today I had a bigger problem, this time with my steering column. He was able to install the new parts, and cut me new keys in just a few hours, (The whole dash was pulled apart and both my steering column and the parts steering column were disassembled and reassembled as well as new keys cut). He is a little out of the way for Montreal, but well worth it.
