I've always known of this place but, for some reason, thought it wasn't anything special. We went here after a movie for convenience, and I was blown away by how good the food was. I got the molcajete, which was better than anything I've had at those fancy Mexican restaurants in SLO. My wife got mahi mahi and it was also very tasty. As my boyfriend and I departed from our trip to San Luis Obispo, we came to a point where the freeways were changing into different interstates and somehow took the wrong direction. When we figured out that we needed to exit off the freeway to get back to where we were going, we found ourselves in the town of Atascadero. Pulling into a small strip mall to take a closer look at our map, we ended up parking in front of the Que Pasa Mexican Grill. Because it was about lunch time and we were hungry anyway, we decided to give this place a try. When we entered, the hostess greeted us and we chose the option of dining out in the patio. It was a warm and beautiful day out, so eating outdoors always makes it more pleasant. Our waiter, Oscar attended to us in a prompt and professional manner. Water was poured and menus handed to us right away. After given some time to decide, he returned and answered our questions about their food. Ahi tuna was one of the featured meals. So my boyfriend ordered the seared Ahi tuna salad, while I got the Ahi tuna tacos that included rice and a small salad. Because I requested that my tuna be cooked well done, I had to wait a little longer for my food, which was fine with me. We were in no rush. During our wait, the manager checked on us at least twice and Oscar chatted with us from time to time. He was very helpful in giving us directions to get back on the freeway and even told us about a better route that was less complicated and shortened some driving time. The food was prepared, in my opinion, perfectly! We both enjoyed our meals immensely! The flavor combinations were delicious to say the least, not to mention arriving in an appetizing presentation on the plates! My bf Joe K, still hasn't stopped talking about how good that salad was! I keep hoping that it will get better because they are one of the only place that has Margaritas in Atascadero and has really good salsa but I keep getting disappointed. I wish there was something lower than one star. The food here is clearly not fresh or homemade. Everything tasted like they used McCormick seasonings. My husband and I eat a TON of Mexican and let me tell you this food is not legit. My husband says it's easily the worst Mexican he's ever had. The service was good. There was almost no meat and the veggies were kinda tasteless. I ordered the Barbacoa Enchilada Combination plate for $10.50. Man that was a teeny little portion. Not worth the money. The meat had a nice flavor but was kinda dry and forgettable. Hubby and I both noted that the beans tasted like Rosarita brand (from the can) refried beans with some paste mixed in. The rice was average. Nothing that would impress. Probably a pre- made spice package that you add to some rice. The tortillas were not fresh or handmade either which is disappointing when you're paying almost $15 a plate. For the price, you should expect high-quality, fresh food. Mexican food is so cheap (besides the meat). Why do you have to charge so much for something that costs so little? It just doesn't make sense. I noticed on the ala carte section that one taco is $7! odjdb;#(@dmsnsj!?!! *SMASH FACE IN KEYBOARD* I have a feeling that the owner is not very principled and feels okay charging an exorbitant amount for lousy food. We came in around 6 on a Monday. There were a few tables so, it was a little busy. We looked through the menu and it took a little while for our waitress to take our order. I ordered the beef nachos and he ordered the tostada (taco salad) There were a few orders ahead of us but it didn't take too awfully long to get the food. We munched on the complimentary warm chips and salsa. Pretty good for the area but not blow your mind either. The food arrived and I noticed my nachos were swimming in broth from the shredded beef. I had to eat it with a fork, but it was pretty good despite the sogginess. His tostada had spring mix lettuce in it of which he's not over fond. It was ok, but nothing to brag about. I reviewed Que Pasa about 6 months ago. I previously gave them a 4 star rating, because the food was at least decent, but I hoped the service would get better. It hasn't. Here is my review based on the last 2 or 3 times I've been. I'm now giving them a 3 star, and I honestly thought about a 2 star. THE EXCELLENT * The Salsa * The Nacho's (most of the time) THE BAD * The service is HORRIBLY SLOW, and unattentive. I really try not to knock a place for service. But I have to now. * They used to prepare the Guacamole Table side, but now when I've ordered it, or seen anyone order it, they just ask you how spicy you want it, then make it in the kitchen. * The handmade Tortillas were great (Do they still do this? Again I haven't seen this recently), but they were so stingy with them, that it really detracted from how good they were. * The food quality/taste is inconsistent. The same item can vary in quality from one day to the next. * When I order Nachos to go they charge for extra salsa -- Salsa you can eat as much of as you want in the restuarant. This is a major pet peeve of mine. THE GOOD * The Parking has improved! They now "officially" opened up the dirt parking lot across from the restaurant, so parking is MUCH more convenient. * This place seems to have a lot of potential -- but it seems the owners don't care enough to realize that potential. We were staying in Atascadero and went to this place because of some of the reviews and they seemed vegetarian friendly. This place DEFINITELY deserves a better rating than what Yelp currently has. Let me start with the service in general - extremely good - everybody working there was super-friendly from the moment we entered - including people who were just walking by. But our waitress specifically was extremely attentive - water was refilled regularly. We had margaritas, the fresh guacamole (for which they got us extra jalapenos), a veggie version of their street tacos that they put together, the queso fundido and a taco with mashed potatoes in it. All portions were generous. The dessert looked very good, but we were too full. Definitely a place we will go back to if we are in that area. read more

My husband has been a long time regular at Que Pasa and we truly have been avoiding leaving a negative review but we have had one too many bad experiences and felt the need to share. The last three times we have gone there it has been for takeout and my husband has asked to speak to the manager as the hostess has been rude and has not provided quality customer service. The food has also taken a dive in the quality department. The last time I was there I ordered potato tacos and they gave me a plate that looked like it was made with burnt meat that fell at the bottom of the oven. When we went back to ask if this was potato as it look like over cooked meat we were told that that's the way the dish is supposed to look yet I have ordered this dish time and time again and it has never looked and tasted as bad. After paying for her bill with her debit card she came home to find out the total looked different than her receipt. As the only known location in SLO county since the one in San Luis Obispo closed down, the Atascadero que pasa is a great place to go to grab a bite to eat. They have a fairly large menu with lots of options for lunches, dinners, entrees etc. My wife and I love to go in mid afternoon and enjoy beer and the chips and guacamole cart. Beers on tap come in either 16 or 22oz, we always get the larger of the two since we hang out for a few hours. Guacamole cart is an ample amount, plenty to share between 2 people. Guac is $9, but during happy hour I believe it's $5. They also provide chips and salsa and are refillable whenever you need. Depending on the server, they will either ask if you want more chips and salsa when you run out or you'll have to ask them. I've also been there for dinner. They have really good tacos and specialty enchiladas. On Tuesday they have basic hard shell tacos for ~$1.50 with either shredded chicken or beef. Definitely decent for such an inexpensive meal. They have both dining room seating and bar seating with TVs playing sports. Overall, I've been returning to Que Pasa! For quite some time now and will continue in the future. I have been to Que Pasa a few times and I really like the food and margaritas. But today I went and the service was the worst I have ever had anywhere. I don't even know where to start. I must have asked for water 3 times before we got it. Our Margaritas took a trip around the dinning room before they found their rightful home in my mouth (literally server brought it to 3 other tables while we watched). It took so long to put in our order I actually forgot that we hadn't. Had to ask for the chips and salsa before we got any. Brought my friend's dish cold and the wrong dish to me. Finally got the correct dish and I asked for sour cream and that never came. Second margarita came out finally and was asked if it took a while (manager brought it), yes yes everything did! When we got the check we were charged for the special that I never ordered. My friend went and talked with the manager to get it fixed and the second check had an extra burrito. But don't worry the 3rd check came out right. Luckily the food tasted good, the company was great, and my baby was well behaved but after being there for 2 hrs it got dicey at the end and I was about ready to walk. If you ever took a 7 month old to a restaurant, you know 2 hours was not acceptable lunch length. read more

I visited this one today hoping the food would at least be good I got the morcajete so bland and such little meat mostly salsa to make it look like there's lot of food in there....my husband asked for a carnitas burrito he got a Chile verde one which was not edible my husband had one bite and left it. Beans were flavorless and bland service was terrible took 40 minutes to get our food out never got a refill on our drinks. We didn't even bother to tell the server about the error on my husbands burrito as it would've probably taken another 40 minutes to get a new one. First time here. Had the seafood tacos and selected one shrimp and one octopus. Hadn't had an octopus taco before so have it a go. Wow! Octopus taco was outstanding!! Really, really tasty. The shrimp taco was also good...but if I come here again (which I certainly will) I am going to make both of those tacos the octopus. Yum! Beans and rice that came with the taco plate were fine. I was a regular here, they have good salsa. Went for lunch today, ordered two "crunchy" tacos and was very disappointed. They were dripping in orange grease and were not crunchy whatsoever. Thankfully they comped the meal, so I didn't have to pay for it. I was only able to eat half of one taco anyways and it almost immediately gave me indigestion. The waitress insisted that's how they do their "crunchy" tacos, but I've never had them "made that way". Sadly, I don't know if I can stomach going back after today. 2 stars because I'll miss their salsa and I did appreciate them not charging for the meal. read more

So we got our food delivered from here tonight(special thanks to door dash... a dream come true in this town!). I haven't ordered from or went to Que Pasa in a long time and i am so glad I did. Tonight we ordered the shrimp ceviche and the fajitas especiales in chicken and steak. I think I messed up and got this off of their lunch menu because of the price... but they honored it :) The shrimp ceviche was made perfectly. Lots of shrimp with fresh avocados, tomatoes, onions... everything from the garden was so fresh. The flavors were perfect.. it came with tostadas and tortilla chips and salsa. The fajitas.. man. The best. Piles of meat and veggies seasoned and cooked perfectly. I chose the corn tortillas.. I don't like corn tortillas but they are my favorite here at Que Pasa... they were homemade.. fresh and warm. It complimented the meal so well I ate so much I got food coma. Everything was perfect and we had so much food I'm taking it to lunch with me. I keep battling eating that last tortilla by itself or using it with my lunch tomorrow. I'm weak. we went for taco Tuesday and were deeply unimpressed. We ordered a variety of tacos between the three of us that went. Only a couple of the tacos we ordered were just decent. We ordered a second round of crispy chicken tacos and they came out with a sauce that the first round did not come out with. We asked for salsa for our tacos and they came out with another bowl of the same free mediocre salsa they give you with the chips. We ordered what we thought was a "safe" margarita choice and it was absolutely disgusting. It was genuinely the worst margarita we've ever tried. Our server was also not the best. It didn't seem to phase her at all that we had only taken a small sip of the margarita and left it untouched the rest of our meal. She also rushed us for the check which we found to be kind of rude. I had been the the Que Pasa location when it was open in San Luis a few times and never had an experience like this. Today was my first visit since before COVID. A friend took us there to celebrate my mom's birthday. The server was super, the food tasty and the dining room was completely empty except us. We were at the early side of lunch but stayed for a while and still no one else. This place used to be so busy, it is sad that business has not picked up. Our meal was pleasant and when we mentioned the birthday they even brought us a fried ice cream with candle and sang. The menu is American style Mexican and there are a few options with more creative recipes. I have never had a bad meal there, and it is a good, family type place with a welcoming feel. Went to dinner at Que Pasa in Atascadero tonight. A bi monthly affair. Waited a few minutes to be seated, restaurant was not busy, maybe three or four guest inside. Server took our drink order. Saw the ticket pop up on the bartenders order printer. After 20 min and watching the bartender chat with the one patron at the bar, our order for three drinks was finally made. We had asked for water for all four of us. Three times the bus person came by and asked us if there was anything we needed. We again request on all three of the bus persons trip, we needed water. Nothing. Dinner order went in and was pretty promptly delivered by our waiter. Again asking for water. The server then brought us water. 3/4 through our meal we ordered another round of drinks. See it pop up on the bartenders printer. It sat for 15 min. while we watched the bartender chit chat with one patron and fill the mixers and fruit trays. Finally we had enough waiting for the drinks and went up to the bartender and asked for our bill, cancel the drinks. She then walked up to the printer and pulled our order. When the waiter brought our bill we complained about the terrible bartender service and asked to speak with the manager. Waiter said that the bartender was the manager!!!! We waited a few minutes after paying the bill , but the manager/bartender did not return. I hope the owners of this restaurant do something about the management. Great food, servers are trying to do a good job but with a bartender or manager like this you will loose business from regular customers. read more
