This spot was highly recommended so I drove out to Kenner bruh to check it out. You can call your order in ahead or order at the window. They have daily specials and today I got the red beans and rice with Mac and cheese and fish with cornbread ($14). The cornbread was fresh out the oven and so warm and fluffy. The Mac and cheese was fixed just right and then red beans were so flavorful. The fish was good as well. And the portion was huge! I stopped by for lunch but had enough to make it thru dinner. Food was pretty good, however the functionality of the business could be a bit better. There's no inside seating, you can order via the side window or via phone. I was unaware of this at first which resulted in me ordering upon arrival and sitting in my car while the food was being prepared. Perhaps they should consider posting their menu online and not just on a chalkboard outside so customers can easily view the menu ahead of time. QC was recommended to me by my co worker JC last week. So I put it on my NOLA Hit List. Went after work on Friday and definitely was surprised how small the place was. Well I must say after ordering just about everything on the menu... QC is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! Probably the best soul food I've had since being in NOLA. I don't even know where to begin with this absolute gem hidden in Kenner by the airport. I was made aware of this place from Devin on his RB&R day review earlier this year. It took me a minute to get here, but If you haven't been here you need to run don't walk!! Queen's Cuisine is more than just amazing soul food, it was an experience. The owner Ms Queenie goes out of her way to make you feel like family as soon as you walk up to the window to order. We talked before and after ordering and it felt like I knew her already. There is a back story here about her son and the restaurant he always wanted her to have. Sadly he was murdered in New Orleans in 2014 and there hasn't been any justice. She cooks this food with pure love straight from her heart to honor his name. The red beans, potato salad and fried fish was outstanding. The fried fish was hot and crispy. Beans are hitting and full of flavor. Don't even get me started on the cornbread! I also got another plate of beans for my wife with the pork chop and that was equally as great! Took home the fried chicken, peas and Mac and cheese for my son and he devoured it! My big back besties and I wanted to try a new spot. We ordered 2 platters to try. The customer service was great. The lady taking the orders was extremely sweet and kind. Platter 1 I was told their specialty was the crab stuffed catfish. We got a stuffed catfish platter with 2 sides (white beans & potato salad. The catfish tasted good, but the stuffing was not good to me or my fellow big backs. The dressing was on a thicker side. It felt like peanut on the roof of my mouth. It also lacked a "seafood" flavor. The crab meat was there, but it only tasted like cornbread. I would definitely recommend using either some seafood stock in the stuffing or maybe even some lobster base. It just tastes like plain cornbread dressing. I wish it had more of a seafood taste, but it tasted like thick bread. The white beans were SUPERIOR. Loved them so much. Definitely the star of our meals. Lastly, the potato salad. I do not mean to be harsh, but this was the worst potato salad that I have ever had. It seriously tasted like there were three ingredients: POTATO, MUSTARD (a ton), and RELISH. I hated it so much. It was very potato-y and extremely sour from the mustard. I also really hated the texture. It was more like a scoop of mashed potatoes. No chunks, just very smooth/smashed. I guess it depends on your upbringing, but my family always left a few little chunks of potato and we always had eggs, onion & bell peppers in ours. I get everyone does not put egg in their potato salad though. The 2nd Platter: Fried Chicken w/ 2 sides (macaroni & white beans) Of course the beans were amazing, but that chicken. My God. This was some of the BEST chicken I've had in awhile. It was delicious. Finger licking good lol. Now we all collectively agreed that the macaroni looked like baked spaghetti but it did not taste like it at all. We did not like it. Idk what exactly to say besides we just didn't like it. It had a taste that I just can't put my finger on. I'm not sure if there's a specific spice or what, but we did not care for it at all. Overall 3/5 stars. I heard about Queen's from the guy on Twitter who does red beans around the city, and I am so glad I did. I had the chicken and red beans with macaroni. The chicken (wings) was PERFECT. Delicious seasoning and cooked exactly right. The beans are what brought me in, and let me tell you, I have never had better, and I can't imagine how they could possibly be any better. Creamy and delicious. Big chunks of ham, including a ham bone. I wanted to cry tears of joy, and then sadness when they were done. The macaroni was so good, with a touch of spice that I've never had in macaroni but I want all the time now. Everything is made to order, so expect a little bit of a wait, but it's worth it. On our way back to MSY we decided to stop off for an afternoon lunch. We were greeted by the owner of the restaurant, with open arms and a huge smile. She told us the specials and we were sold! I got the catfish and man oh man was it delish. The home cooked white beans and rice were also delish, as well and the Mac n cheese. Others got the stuffed cat fish with crab salad. The weekend of October 11th while in New Orleans I had the pleasure of dining in a little small quaint restaurant on Airline Hwy in Kenner. Upon entrance I was greeted with a warm welcome by the Queen herself. Immediately I felt like I'd stepped into someone's southern dining room with the aroma of seasonings and herbs mingling in the air. There is bistro style seating and tables with protective plastic covering. There is a window a/c unit that competes with the afternoon heat. , Ok, now on to the good part. There is a small steam table with steaming hot entre's and side items. On this day there was mac & cheese (N'awlins style w/spaghetti pasta), collards, rice, sweet potatoes (not drunk in sugar), and other southern veggies. Entre's were stuffed bell pepper, stuffed crawfish étouffée', fried pork chop, ribs, fried catfish, crab meat stuffed fried catfish, and seafood gumbo. The menu rotates daily. You get an entre' and 2 sides. It all looked so good with steam coming from each item (you know I like my hot food hot), I was so indecisive on what to order. The Queen told me, "take a seat and let me feed you". You don't argue with the Queen, I think that would be disrespectful so my son and I took a seat. We were immediately brought our drinks and corn bread. Shortly there after, there was a processional line of food coming to our table. I was in awe!!!!! Total disbelief!!!!! I had the best fried catfish I've had since I moved away from New Orleans 24 yrs ago. The filets were huge and didn't have that ole nasty taste of dirt like big catfish often have. It was fried perfectly golden brown, picture perfect. The Queen obviously filters her oil, because there was not one brown speck and the fish was tender and delicious!!!! The stuffed catfish is also fired and stuffed with a crabmeat dressing (also known as stuffing to some of you). It too, was delicious and well seasoned. The greens were perfectly cooked with pork that was neither salty or fatty. The mac & cheese made with spaghetti pasta was creamy and cheesy and perfectly baked. I had gumbo that had a nicely seasoned roux with excellent color and flavor, full of shrimp, sausage, and crab claws. The pork chop was fried golden brown and tender. My son devoured the étouffée' and was amazed by the stuffed crawfish heads that were stuffed with ground beef and maybe a seafood filling; swimming in a tomatoy roux that was nicely seasoned. All in all this is the spot you tourists need to come instead of the expensive traps in the quarter and on Canal St. This is real food, nothing processed, prepackaged. fatty or salty, This is a prime example of REAL New Orleans food at reasonable prices that don't hurt your wallet. Daily specials are less than $12. You can't beat it. The service is superb and the food is out of this world! Get there and let the Queen love on you! read more
