Last weekend myself and 9 friends were staying in the Travel Lodge which is situated about 5 mins walk away from The Queens Hotel in Macclesfield. We were in Macclesfield to participate in an event going on that weekend not far from there, and the Travel Lodge was the cheapest option for accommodation.
On the Friday, at 7.55pm, we were all hungry, and the pub advertised that food was served until 8pm. With there being so many of us, and so close to the end of food service, I was certain they'd turn us away, but in fact it was the opposite - the bar staff and chef could not be more accommodating.
They were friendly, and welcomed the custom. They encouraged us to move tables so we could all sit together, and were able to offer us a number of options for food. The food was fantastic - hot and filling (so much on the plates a lot of us couldn't finish it), and both food and drinks were reasonably priced. Before leaving that night we mentioned that we were going to be travelling early in the morning - they encouraged us to go back for breakfast, and when we took them up on this, when we arrived they had laid out the table specially for us and were already cracking on with cooking the food we'd ordered.
That night some of our party decided to eat there again as the service had been so exceptional the day before. Again, the staff were courteous and friendly. They even brought us over some free chips that they'd cooked and not used.
The bar itself is big and homely. There are tv screens dotted about, and a pool table in one corner. The clientelle seemed to be made up of regulars who were also friendly to us.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this pub. Should I have a need to stay in Macclesfield again I will certainly be frequenting this place again. read more
