I've been here on multiple occasions and she was very impatient and spoke with a rude condescending tone. I've had enough after what happened today. I took my parents to this restaurant for my dad's birthday and we totally didn't overstay and was still working on our food. The nerve on this lady to ask us whether this was all that we were going to order and whether we could leave as there were more customers coming in. She wasn't even our waiter; our waiter was actually really nice. There were many tables left and we weren't lounging around so I don't know why she felt the need to essentially ask us to leave. The food is not bad but not terrific. There's not enough flavor in some of the dishes, like the lobster and Tofu casserole. We came here thinking this would be a great place to have a family dinner but it was not what I expected. The service was bad. They sat us in the corner of the restaurant and we were profile during out visit here. They kept walking around the table and wanted us to leave fast. Once we got the check they kept staring at us if we were going to leave a tip. The manager or owner told us that the tip was not included in the bill. When I'm out late on weekends, my friends and I make sure we leave the club before 4 so we can make it here before closing. I always order the chili salt and pepper fried porkchops. You go pay good money usually to go to places with date night atmosphere and attentive services. Here please just serve me, get my non fuss order and leave me to eat or take out. Been going to this restaurant for maybe 10 years. The food has always been consistent. My family ordered the walnut shrimp which is a classic and really difficult to mess up. I love that the sauce came on the side so I felt a little less guilty when eating it even though i know there's no way it's healthy. We also ordered two veggie dishes. Both were good again filling in the role of making me feel like i'm eating healthy but we all know when you go out to eat at a chinese restaurant the amount of oil used is ridiculous. When we were almost done with one of the veggie dishes all the oil and grease left behind was clearly visible and very unappetizing. I'm not sure how much chinese restaurants usually cost but for one place of shrimp and two plates of veggies the bill was already at $60. I never thought I'd come back, yet 20 years later I find myself coming here with my friends to enjoy great chinese food. This place is has late hours, til 4am I believe. So its great for the "I'm starving after partying/drinking" nights. The food is delicious too. I've had various dishes at this place. The ones that are a "must have" whenever I eat here are: PEKING DUCK PORK, SHRIMP WITH WALNUT, SPINACH. The staff is friendly and are very helpful if you don't know what you want to order. They give you suggestions. Also, if you order something that they feel that isn't good, they will let you know and recommend something similar. I'll be introducing more of my friends to this place. :D Its great for groups. They have big round tables so you don't need to lean forward to talk to someone at the end of the table. If you are looking for real Chinese food, you've found your place. China pearl has all types of authentic dishes. My fiancé has been coming here since he was a kid and so he took me here for the first time yesterday. We got the ginger lobster, yok bang (minced pork), three egg water steamed, jelly fish with ham, beef with scallions, and fish head. Our favorites were there lobster and fish head dishes. Just the right amount of seasoning and tastes just like how my grandparents would make it. The only dish I would likely not order again would be the beef with scallions because it was a little salty. My go to midnight food place in Elmhurst. I've seriously loved their food when they were just High Pearl. My favorite dish from that is Beef with Tofu. It's so yummy and the portions are great. Prices are reasonable and food will satisfy that chinese eats crave (if you have any). I have to admit, the outside and inside is NOT impressive. at all. Harsh fluorescent lights, mirrored walls, cheap tile floors.. They don't put any effort to class up the joint, windows may need some washing, and maybe some pretty paintings hung, but often times they will have a full house and the sound of laughing families can be heard by pedestrians outside. Too chewy, not very much flavor, and the garlic could've been browned a little more. -Chili salt&pepper pork chop. I would not order it again; however, my fiance enjoyed this dish most. I found it to be a little too dry for me. -The service was attentive, but it took forever and a day to get boxes for our food and the check. Our bill came out to be around $60, tax and tip included. My dad used to get takeout from here all the time when I was a kid, we would also dine here on certain occasions. As I grew older and we moved out of Elmhurst we came here less and less, but the last 3-4 years, we've been going back. The food there is like crack. Maybe cause I grew up on it, but for good Cantonese food at a fair price, look no further. Seafood is obviously their specialty, but the meat is good here too, I'm mainly a carnivore so I rarely eat vegetables, but what I've had here on the veggie side was also delish. Please note that everytime I've come here I've done family style, I cannot attest to the over rice portions (I didn't even know they had that until I read some of the other reviews on here.) Yes there's rumors of gambling, and the owners being a bit tough, but it has never affected me, the owners recognize my dad, but not me, and I've been here a few times without my dad and the service was pretty good for the most part, the place was busy but not fully packed, might be different when it's fully packed as well. We used to come here a LOT. Whether it was with friends at midnight or with family at dinnertime, this was a big go-to place for us. Their food is amazing... there is a reason why this place is always packed even though it's not in a great neighborhood and parking is an absolute nightmare. Most of the times we are forced to park near the back where the supermarket (and it's filthy dirty garbage water leaks) are. I would never wear flipflops coming here, that's for sure. The food is really, really, really, REALLY good. But they have started raising their prices and for a family of 6, we sometimes spends upwards of $200+ and that's just not cool for a regular sit-down Chinese meal.
