In the past, this Quest lab had some bad review one came from me. But Quest replaced the problematic staff and the result is superior service and quality of the lab. This lab is very near my home so it is convenient for me. They have emergency good hours and will take walk in appointments in the mornings. One of the things I like best is the online scheduling. It is very easy to select dates and times. They Followup with email reminders and check in instructions. I also really appreciate the staff at Quest. I am always taken into the lab right away and the blood draw is quick, efficient and painless. The techs are very capable and experienced. Staff are always friendly and helpful. I recommend Quest Lab in Penn Valley, very highly. I trust and appreciate the people and test results here. read more

The staff is allowed to maintain several seriously unacceptable attitudes since no one within Quest is directly supervising their actions. They are rude and appear to be very lazy. They state that walk ins are accepted but every time I have gone in (and the suite has been empty) they deny service saying you need an appointment. If that is the case, take off the internet that you accept walk ins. This review is all about attitude and not about ability. I have no problems with their blood drawing skills. This location is a complete joke. They do what is most convenient for them and not the patient. I suggest going to LabCorp.

My wife's physician requested a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel for her to be done at Quest Diagnostics. I drove her to the 2 pm appointment 15 minutes early the doors were locked, which is fine. The doors were soon unlocked my wife walked in while another lady walked in after her. Inside there was no receptionist and it there was no clear idea what a person should do. A few minutes later the lab tech came out and took the lady who arrived inside after my wife to the back to get her lab work done. When my wife was finally able to go in the treatment room to get her blood drawn the lab tech poked her 3 times attempting to find a vein and was unsuccessful, so she ceased any further efforts. The lab tech said it was company policy to only poke a person 3 times. So after fasting since the night before and arriving promptly for her appointment with Quest nothing gets done! BTW, the pre-blood draw instructions were far from comprehensive. For example, she was told not to eat anything after midnight the night before the blood draw, which is common enough. But anytime, and I mean anytime that I have had instructions for lab tests or other medical procedures with restrictions they were specific about the fluids you could have the day of the procedure. In some cases the procedure was NPO (nothing by mouth) meaning do food or liquids of any kind. But most of the time you could have non-alcoholic fluids and they were specific about the fluids: some specified only clear fluids (water and 7-up); another maybe any fluids except no milk or cream with coffee or tea; I had a procedure recently that specified no coffee or tea, no dairy products, but clear liquids and even the orange (but not red) or lighter covered Gatorade. The point of all this is they have specified restrictions for some of these medical procedures. So I asked my wife if she could have coffee with me the day of the lab test (actually today) and she said she didn't know. So I said well just check your instructions and she said there no other instructions other than fasting the night before. That didn't sound right to me so I told her you should call Quest to see if there are any restrictions on fluids the day (again, that was today) of the lab test and she very reluctantly did. But all she got was a Robo response from the call in with 3 options, none of which applied to the info she was trying to obtain and there was no way to reach a human voice (not even O for operator). She ended up calling her doctor's office and a person there clarified the restrictions. Now I blame the doctor's office at least as much as Quest for this, but the medical offices that I get all my treatment from give you appointment reminders to your email and/or texts so you know the full details of all medical processes and procedures. Pretty easy to do in this day and age. Virtually everyone has a smart phone, tablet, or laptop computer. My wife asked the tech at the end of the visit what she could do since the tech wasn't able to draw her blood. The tech simply said to lookup another Quest office online and contact it to see if the procedure could be done at another location. My wife has always had trouble with blood draws but typically just grits her teeth threw maybe 10 pokes until the job gets done. Sometimes another tech in the same office with keener skills is called in from another treatment room and gets the blood drawn. But she has never been turned away before. Quest's own policies (only 3 blood draws and having offices with no receptionist to assist with general questions) makes it a laboratory with a poor business model. read more

This tiny lab is a one-person operation, which could cause complications, BUT my experience with Jennifer was exemplary. She was very thorough rechecking doctors orders and very patient with my recalcitrant veins. She was not rushed, and took a minute to explain to the next patient waiting. A very pisitive experience! I have no issue with the lab itself - just the billing. Not known to me - my doctor ordered a lab test that was not covered by insurance. If it was - it would be marked down 90%. I asked Quest for a discount from their full retail price, but they would not negotiate. I had to pay full price - though no fault of my own. I'll definitely go to Labcorp next time. read more

I've been dealing with our local Quest facility here since they bought out the previous owner. The 1st couple of years their service was great. And then things started slipping. I can usually tolerate most incompetence but today took the cake. Yesterday I made an appointment online for 10:50 AM. I had a lot of problems with their website's appointment page. It took me over 30 minutes of frustrating time to get this appointment made but I got it. When I arrived today at 10:45, 5 minutes before my appointment time the person who I guess they pay to be there, immediatly informed me she had no appointments and in 10 minutes she was going on break. I said I had made it and she informed me I hadn't. she was very pushy about the fact I had made it at another facility. I then said well you don't have any other appointment here anyway and it is 10:50 so why can't you do it. Nope. So them I asked if I could come back this afternoon as a walk in as I had done previously and she said she didn't recommend it as she could only take me if some one cancelled. She was very specific that she was not going to do anything to help me no matter what. Some people are born polite, helpful and appreciated and then there are ones like this one. Since Quest bought this facility they have no competition in this area and so can treat customers very poorly and there's nothing anyone can do. This needs to be looked in to read more

For all the bad reviews that Quest Diagnostics seems to get, I want to set some things straight. I absolutely love the Penn Valley Quest Diagnostics. The people who work there are friendly and kind. They always have positive attitudes and can distract me from even the most stressful test. Everything is done in a professional manner. I have never had to wait long. I would recommend this Quest Diagnostic station to anyone and everyone. Thank you for showing Penn Valley what Quest Diagnostics is truly capable of. read more
