I'm assuming thats for security reasons even though there is also a security guard. The building is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. The apartments come with a stove, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher. You can truly make it a home away from home.

Soap and a towel is one of those extras though, so unless you bring your own you'll need to cough up some extra dough. Wi-fi is also extra, so is early check-in. If you plan on laughing during your stay, that's also extra. I'd clarify I'm joking there but I might get slugged for that, too. This is all very clear up-front when you book though, so really there shouldn't be any hidden surprises. The lounge downstairs is fun, the rooms are pretty small though (my twin was, at least) but hey, you get what you pay for. Good in a pinch.

The room is clean and comfortable but it is VERY loud. Traffic noise and music/talking/yelling from a nearby bar or party won't make it easy to sleep tonight. Sometimes even great service doesn't cut it when it sounds like there's a freeway and disco across the road. I suppose it was cheap though.

Luckily they do hospitality better then arithmetic and the St. Kilda location is no exception. This boutique budget hotel is located one street back from Acland street and the esplanade, and here lies both the reason for staying here and the reason to not. The location cannot be beaten in St Kilda. Your minutes away restaurant, bars, shops, transport and the beach. This is fantastic obviously! The trouble is if your allocated a front facing room, it may get a bit loud at night, all night(mostly due to the popular backpackers across the road.) The hotel rate includes parking which is a godsend in St Kilda. The service here was fantastic, the check-in process was one of the fastest and smoothest I have experienced and upon requesting an Internet cable they had it ready when I popped down to reception, I didn't even have to ask for it! The room itself was furnished with chairs that look like art pieces but are actually very uncomfortable to sit in and the bed was soft. The LCD flat screen on the wall was great, as was the large desk area in the Deluxe King. The rooms themselves are standard. great value to a budget hotel but missing polish for a boutique offering. The bathroom wasn't memorable, although I was let down by the lack of bathtub. For some reason I like to have the option of a bath while in a hotel, though rarely use it! The included Continental breakfast was standard hotel fare but in a great cafe/bar area which improved the experience.

We walked to dinner a few times and were able to get places quickly. The lobby is massive and was quite popular in the evenings, with a very nice bar and options for high teas during the day! All in all, a great property and one we were very impressed with!

Traditional breakfast foods spanning many different cultures filled one side of the restaurant. We were always rushing to our next adventure so never really had the time to sit and graze. What took this hotel breakfast to a new level was the to-go box they packed for us when we had to leave for the airport before breakfast was served. No one has ever done that for us. The front desk staff including the concierge were absolute fonts of information (and patience with my inability to follow a map). The location also couldn't be beat - half a block from a tram stop (that was free in April!) and quite walkable to other parts of the city. Everything about the W was right on point. (And the umbrellas to borrow and mimosas in the lobby were just icing on the cake!). I doubt we'll be back in Melbourne but if we were, I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.

The units are equipped with a kitchenette, living space, sleeping area, large bathroom with a washer/dryer unit. Nicely maintained and functional. I appreciated that they even offered different types of pillows, including memory foam. There were plugs for your devices on the nightstand and even a wireless charging pad and high speed WiFi. Completely modern features. Mezzanine area had breakfast in the morning, snacks throughout the day, and a free wine bar in the late afternoon. Breakfast featured great items like scrambled eggs, poached eggs with hollandaise, bacon, sausages, fruit, breads, pastries yogurt, specialty coffee machine and various teas. There's even a billiard table. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. The hotel is centrally located with shops, cafes, bodegas, and restaurants all within a short walk. We even walked from the bus station with our luggage. I would without a doubt stay here again.

Hotel: stairs to the main entrance (terrible if you have bags... NO bellhop or hotel staff to greet you when you walk in). Must walk thru a restaurant with your bags unless you are smart enough to guess there is a side entrance where your taxi can drop you off and even then (no bellhop or trolly) if you are traveling with family or with more than one luggage this is super tiresome...this hotel is centrally located, but there are many others that are also centrally located that are just as good as this one (I moved to a different hotel after one night at this one). Very outdated rooms in a very old building. Hotel rooms have no views (my room faced another building's wall). I booked directly with the hotel to get the "happy hour" perk but I don't think it's worth it if the trade off is staying at this hotel. My room: queens suite... the picture of the room exploited on the site and other sites are deceiving, they make it look like the living room and kitchenette is divided by a wall. Not true. In fact it's divided by a Big TV on an early 90s tv stand (ikea has better furniture than this place) and on the photos the bathroom is focused on the shower bc they don't want to show you that there's a big washer machine below the sink and your bathroom is pretty much a laundry room. The size of room is like a small cabin on a cruise ship and it's def decorated like an early 90s cruise ship cabin. Have you ever stayed at a travelodge where they put the "this seat has been sanitized" paper around the toilet lid? Well, this one def came with that. Only perk is: Molton brown products. Other perk: the service and staff was good Major con: Feng Shui super off, didn't know what kind of hotel this was (family, couple?) just didn't fit any brand... Also... is this place haunted?
