Quills used to be a restaurant with service and waiters/waitresses. This has now changed to more of a quick service feel. When visiting, we were a little confused about how to order our meals as you now have to walk up to the counter and there is little signage to tell you this. Despite that, their food is excellent and we enjoyed it! We have been to every version of Quills in the last few years and have enjoyed their meals. Their burgers are excellent. The ambiance is pretty neat when you sit inside to eat and while outside, you get a great view of the village and mountains. read more

I came here with a group that just attended an event at the Tail of the Dragon. I was staying at the Fontana Village and this was super convenient. There is plenty of parking in the front if your with a car club. Service is alittle slow due and with new staffing. Food variety here is on the short side. I ordered the wings and Trout Po Boy sandwich with fries. The food took forever and refills took even longer. The Trout was okay with no flavor. Fries were fast food fries. Wings had no flavor. I came here due to my group wanting to come here but next time I am in town, I will be skipping the food here. read more

Dinner was disappointing. Ordered the chicken finger sandwich with coleslaw. The chicken fingers were dripping with hot wing sauce such that sandwich quickly fell apart. Chicken was overcooked and stringy. Do not plan on going to Quills again. read more

About 15 minutes after ordering I was informed they had no fish and I needed to order something else, so I did. About 10 minutes later my partners food came out, I don't have mine. He ordered the French dip and they didn't bring any au jus juice. Instead she asked if he wanted ranch, blue cheese, catsup or something else for his sandwich. He said no, I want the au jus juice. It took another 10 or more minutes for her to bring it out. She actually brought it out when she brought my food out. And I have to say we were the only ones there so it wasn't like they were busy or anything! When it was time to pay she actually asked if she could have the tip in cash! Who does that? We had been out exploring near the dam and was hungry. Found this place. Walked in and wasn't sure where to go. You walk into what appears to be a store. Then you see a coffee shop. There was a woman at the counter. She was preparing coffees. I stood there for a few minutes but she never acknowledged me. I watched her take coffees to customers. I saw her go to the back and come back with a pizza box and gave to a customer. Still didn't acknowledge me. I finally interrupted her at the counter and asked where we order food and she said here. Handed me a menu. We both ordered the pastrami sandwiches and Cole slaw. I ordered a large Iced Mocha latte. My husband got the Cocoa Brew. There were quite a few people in there. But still plenty of places to sit. Wasn't too loud or anything either. My husband loved his Cocoa Brew, which has alcohol in it and it did taste pretty good. My Iced Mocha was not the best. Didn't taste any espresso in it. Tasted like a mocha flavored tea or something but it was weak hint of the coffee or espresso. Mocha tasted like a fake chocolate flavor. Made me wonder if it was coffee or espresso in it. Not something I'd order again. Sandwich was not that great either. Meat was very dry like bacon. Had good flavor but dry. Coleslaw seemed old as it was slimy. Not a great value for what we got in my opinion. Two sandwich meals and two drinks over $60! Outside of building was cute and nicely decorated. We came in after a 9 hour drive for a quick bite to eat. We were very impressed with the hospitality and delicious food. The bartender recommended the wings with the dry rub and the barbecue sauce over them. I personally have never tried wings like that and I was blown away! So D E L I C I O U S. The drinks were very cold. Large variety of drinks. The bartender gave me a F R E E birthday shot which was very kind. He was very kind throughout our service. He was always chatting with us and talking about all the cool local things to do. Nice spot, great people, the ambiance was very relaxed, everyone was so friendly- we talked to a lot of locals. My husband and I had one of the worst examples of customer service I have ever experienced.  We were seated on the patio at Quills Canteen. A young lady with long dark hair came to the table to help us (only to later find out she was new and not a server).  My husband ordered a Salad with trout bites and I ordered a grilled cheese with tomato on it which comes with tomato soup.  The young lady came back to the table after 5 minutes and told us they do not have any trout bites. My husband asked for chicken on the salad instead of the trout bites.  After 10 minutes the salad came out with no meat on it at all. My husband then requested chicken for the salad for the second time.  My grilled cheese had no tomatoe (which i did not even mention) and I was told they had no soup. She replaced the soup with potatoe salad.   About 10 minutes later the young lady came back with my husbands salad with only a sprinkle of chicken on top. We then called over the other waiter (large man with a beard) we showed him the salad and he said "Okay i'll bring you more chicken". We also expressed our concern about the female server not getting our order correct. He then told us that she was new and was not even a server and seemed confused as to why she had been serving us. The male server never returned with the additional chicken for the salad that he had promised. We sat waiting for the check. That is when we called Lindsay the manager of the restaurant over (a lady with blond hair). This is when it got very disturbing... We explained to her what bad service we had received.  She in a huff blurted out "you do not need to pay the bill, i will comp your bill and you can just go". Then she got very combatative. She said she could refuse service to anyone and started making excuses explaining why all these things had happened.  My husband had had a bad experience at this restaurant 2 nights prior as well with a conversation with Lindsay. My husband said "as the manager it is your responsibility to make sure things go as expected here". That was when things got really ugly. She started scolding us and speaking loudly in front of all the other customers.  She said " the days of people speaking poorly to the staff are over.  We don't need to serve you or put up with it." We had not been combatative prior to this point (she had been).  She then proceed to verbally attack me when I said "she doesn't need to make excuses she simply needs to appologize and that she needed to work on her customer service skills". I had said very little prior to this point.  She yelled at me and told me (us) never to come back. At this point other customers starting clapping and telling her "good job". No one else was truly aware of what really had happening.    She seemed so proud of herself. Worst experience, getting abused by the restaurant staff. She really seemed to think we should be happy she was working at all. You should be aware of how the staff at Quills treats hotel guests. read more

I think part of the problem was they were EXTREMELY busy. So service wasn't the best but my server was trying really hard. I ordered the pork nachos and they were incredibly blah. The interesting thing was they were covered in lettuce with pretty minimal nacho cheese. I felt like I ordered a weird salad. See pic below. I'd come here only for the convenience. read more

My family and I stopped here for lunch on a rainy day last week. We were greeted and seated promptly. The restaurant itself has a beautiful view and nice atmosphere. The menu was kind of limited, but we made our selections. My daughter and I both ordered the fish and chips, which the waitress, I believe her name was Robyn recommended. The menu said they were cod filets. When our food came out, it was obviously not cod. After one taste, which tasted very strongly of dirt, we questioned the waitress, and she assured us it was cod. Neither of us ate it. The French fries were good. When she brought us the check, she asked if we didn't like it. She said her manager told her it was catfish, explaining the dirt taste. She didn't offer to bring us an alternative meal. My daughter requested that she take at least one meal off our bill, and she waved her off. Also, the kids meals were supposed to come with a drink, and she charged for them. She begrudgingly took only one meal off and one of the kid's drinks. Then took 20 minutes to come back for our payment. My daughter very nicely tipped her on the whole amount, but she didn't deserve it. It's a shame, because the resort is beautiful. read more

I ordered a patty melt minus bacon. It came with bacon. They took it back once I pointed out the bacon and they returned a minute later with the same exact food minus the bacon. Not recommending a business that cuts corners. read more

Restaurant was so cute and clean! Went on a Sunday, and it wasn't too busy but you could definitely tell people travel there for the food. Service was great and quick. I had their veggie burger and my friend had their chicken wrap. Both of us got sweet potato fries and if you like cinnamon you will LOVE their sweet potato fries. So crisp and not too overpowering. The burger was also spiced which was an awesome surprised as I'm used to unseasoned veggie burgers! Definitely will be back again next time we tour the dragon! read more

While exploring the area, we happened upon this place located on the grounds of the resort and were very hungry. It was a beautiful day so we Sat outdoors on the expansive deck. Our server quickly brought menus and got our drink orders. There were a lot of good options on the menu from appetizers to salads, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and pizza. I was craving carbs so I decided to get a 7 inch Hawaiian with chicken instead of ham along with a side salad. Hubs got a Dam Burger with mushrooms & swiss cheese along with fries. He was very happy with his burger and I was happy with my selection as well. The salad was huge and had cheese, black olives, cokes, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, and croutons. I got the balsamic vinaigrette and it was good as well. We would definitely eat here again. read more

Most conveniently located restaurant for us since we stay at Fontana for Miatas at the gap. The staff is great, they're usually quite busy so please be patient with them, they work very hard. John was great, he was our server the entire time we were there. I highly reccomend their pizzas, they're sooooooooo good. The breakfast burger is filling and yummy! My boyfriend had it twice. I also would try to call ahead about the wait/ try to make reservations if you're in a larger group. Cant wait till next year! read more

This was a very nice pleasant experience. While staying at Fontana Village, we waited for all the weekend guests to leave, we ventured over to this restaurant on a Sunday evening and had a great experience. We brought our medium sized dog with us, sat out on the porch/outdoor area and were treated to water bowl for our dog. We had called ahead to make sure the dog could be there with us and that a water bowl would be provided. We all purchased a beer, on draft, they brought out two beers and said the draft was out on the third beer and offered a bottle instead. I'm not sure if it was reflected on the bill? My Mom paid for us this time, but it should have been if it wasn't. We started out with fried pickles and fried green tomatoes. Both were very good. The pickles came in spears and were very tasty. The green tomatoes were good as well. My husband and I both ordered a hamburger and my Mom ordered chicken tenders. I added a salad thinking it would come out early but all of it was delivered at the same time. I just took back the salad to the cabin bc I didn't get a chance to have it at the restaurant. I ordered a regular burger and my husband ordered the burger with the pork and said it was delicious. Mine was good as well. My Mom had no complaints on her tenders and we were all satisfied. We enjoyed our meal and will definitely go back again before we check out of our cabin. Taking the salad back with us worked out great as we made Tuna sandwiches the next day and we've been able to use it for that as well. I would recommend going for dinner. We ordered the Roastbeef Philly Cheese. Once we got it was pretty good. However, waiting 50 min for what only takes 5 minutes to make really put a damper on the experience. See, we ordered and then proceeded to watch at least 2 other parties receive their orders before we did. After we flagged down our waiter (he had yet to check on us or apparently our food) he went to to get the status... seems our ticket was lost in all the mayhem. 6 minutes later out comes our order. Being hungry, we ate. You would think the meals (or at the very least one of them) would be comped. Our discount... no charge for sodas and $3 off (so $9 off the bill). I expected more and a visit from the manager. Shame crappy customer service ruined what would have been a fine meal. read more

The food would be good if you can get it. We are staying at fontana resort... there's no where else to rat bc they closed their other restaurant for the night. We were told it'd be 15-20 minutes before they could take our order, after 45 minutes we asked what was up and he said we were actually still at the bottom of the list and it'd be a long while. Bummer!!! So we ended up eating cheese and crackers from the general store. The meals we got to eat here before were fantastic. Otherwise 1 star. But tonight.... big bummer!!! Well, what can you say? This is one of two options in the Fontana Dam Village. They have an adequate, basic salad bar. The burgers looked pretty decent and prepared on fresh toasted buns. For lunch I had fried pickles as well as the chicken tenders basket. The pickles were a good portion, and the three fingers were enough as well. Again, nothing fancy but still tasty. For dinner, I opted for the pizza. The crust is obviously homemade, and it was very tasty. This is a thin crust pizza with little sauce. It's not quite New York style, but similar. It had just the right amount of oregano and Italian spices to make things just right. The cost is a little high for everything on the menu, but it is a tourist location. I didn't really expect anything less. They do have a very nice porch area where you can sit outside and look up into the Great Smokies. Not too shabby! read more

It was not a consistent experience in regards to the food my pizza was tasteless but saved by being covered with cheese. My brother's blackened chicken was barely cooked and just covered in pepper or maybe some kind of blackened seasoning. My wife's fish and chips however were spectacular! And the fried pickles were a shining ray of happiness in my evening. The Long Island Ice Tea equally joyful. The service was fair, polite but seemingly impatient despite it being almost empty, however she did take some amazing pictures of our family for us. I found her service average so the missing two stars are purely because of the quality of my meal and the high prices for what is essentially all bar food but with fancy descriptions. read more

Limited options for food up here. Had lunch and the trout tacos were decent. Trout was the best part of the meal.

The first night we had chips and salsa and blackened chicken taco salad. The chips were stale and the taco bowl was dripping with grease. Zach was out server and was very pleasant.
