A pair of us shared the ribeye for two which had great flavor and was more than we could handle. The other two had the veal which was very tender. All if the desserts were perfection, very light with an abundance of flavors. The only miss was the wine tour/tasting. My friend made the arrangements for our lunch and tour reservations, checked that we had sufficient time time between them. The restaurant knew we had a tour and the tour people knew we had lunch reservations. We showed up for the tasting and were sort of scolded for being late. And apparently we were supposed to pick our tasting in advance so after the tour we had to quickly choose. Unfortunately, because we felt rushed, we just picked the classic tasting which turned out to be just ports and none of us are fans. That's on us for not taking the time we should have so I'm not hold that against them. The tour guide was very enjoyable to listen to and seemed to have real joy for her job.

The tour was excellent, our guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. The process is fascinating. We finished with the tastings. The ports are fantastic. We had a Porto rose, tawny, and LBV. This winery is definitely worth a visit!

They set up lunch for us in the wine cellar. It was such a beautiful space, the walls were lined with oak barrels and there was some cool art at the far side. The table was set so perfectly with a couple of bottles of wine, a charcuterie board full of different cheeses and meats, and a very tasty fruit salad. They thought of everything, even having a heater under the table. We had the entire cellar to ourselves, just the three of us. After lunch, we did a tasting and tour of the winery with a group. The day couldn't have been more perfect and I had an amazing experience here!

Wandering around the property it's easy to get lost going up and down the stone steps as the whole place is built on the side of a hill. There is a hot tub although not in a great location, on a lower floor, and a pool - unheated - with scenic views. Our room is spacious and brightly colored with French doors - we shared the entrance with one room on our 2nd level and one below. This is a place you could definitely hang out for a week at least. We had two days there and it was wonderful. It's about a mile from downtown and the train station across the foot bridge although there's not much in town to see. We had dinner at the hotel both nights - 2 nice restaurants one an open air grill place and one for fine dining and also breakfast. Highly recommend this place if visiting Pinhao and the Douro valley.

They wanted me to send money via bank transfer. I did not feel comfortable with that and wanted to pay by CC. Their response time is slow and had to send numerous emails without a response back. Finally got a credit card form from them, and signed and sent back within 24 hours. They cancelled my reservation, because 24 hours is too long. Go figure. What a waste of time and effort. I recommend going to vineyard that actually cares about their customers. TAKE MY ADVICE AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Thanks for opening up my taste buds to good white port and three cheers for the beautiful views. Loved learning the history and science of port production and sitting down for a tasting with our small group was a relaxing way to start the day. Only wish was that we had more time to explore this and other little towns, as I am sure there are places to grab a bite to eat, but glad we had time on a boat on the river.

We had a very nice traditional Portuguese lunch, with plenty of appetizers of cod fritters and sausages, with several courses and musical entertainment (including an accordion) in their lovely building. We enjoyed their white and red wines, and we had lovely service from their friendly staff. A highlight here is the owner, who was such a fun-loving host. He seemed to love his job of entertaining and informing the luncheon group very much. He did a great job of raising my rating higher. This is a great tour stop in Portugal near the Duoro River.

We booked a 3-night stay in the middle of our May-long circumnavigation of Portugal as a way to…read morerest and relax from all that sightseeing. What a lovely setting! We enjoyed the somewhat pricey dinners in the renovated 18th century farmhouse, with diners from multiple countries conversing across different languages. Breakfasts were superb, although we missed our morning lattes, settling for coffee with a bit of milk. Staff were always ready to assist (in multiple languages!), but were never intrusive. Our room behind the farmhouse enjoyed a lovely view of the river valley with its terraced hillsides. We trekked the Red Trail straight down to the "corte" (a stream cutting through the hills draining into the Douro River a few kilometers distant), and then straight back up the road to the farmhouse as the sun came out. Such a pleasant experience (except possibly for the nerve-wracking descent on the access driveway!), and a highlight of our vacation.

The new owner, from France, has done a wonderful job renovating the space. We had a fantastic personal tour of the winery, from an explanation of the grapes to the equipment and development of their port and table wines. This is also one of the few places where they still stomp on the grapes. The guide was very knowledgeable and knew a lot about the history of the estate. Finally, we were able to sample the wines, which were all delicious. Overall, I really enjoyed this winery.

Spectacular wine, beautiful scenery and unforgettable experience at Bulas Wines and Vineyards…read more It takes a while to get there on the winding roads, but you will greeted by beautiful scenery all the way. The vineyard itself is a complete gem tucked between the Douro and a smaller affluent, a perfect location that has apparently been producing wine since the XIII th century. We were greeted by the owners and the oenologist, who did everything they possibly could to show us around the property and tell us about Douro history and wine production, even though they were bang in the middle of a harvest. Most importantly, the wine was truly spectacular (so much so we brought about 12 bottles back with us!) In Douro wines, we really liked the 2012 reserve white and the 2009 Touriga Nacional. But the stars of the show really are the the Ports... if you pass by make sure you at least try a Vintage ruby and a 30 year old Tawny. Sure, they're the most expensive to buy, but they were included in our tasting and completely changed our perspective on dessert wines. If you're on a visit to Douro, this is definitely one not to miss out on!

We had a cursory winery tour with a group of around 10 people-all Portuguese except my wife and I. It was your basic tour, walking through the winery, looking at machinery, followed by a visit to their little museum (shrine to the olden days) assembled by the winery matriarch. Afterwards, we sat outside the nice wine shop overlooking the river with amazing view and tried three wines-one white, 1 red and 1 port-nothing special to my palet. What IS SPECIAL are the amazing views from the property and the wonderful restaurant Skip the winery and tasting and book in advance a table for lunch. Depending on the menu you can order a wine flight to accompany your lunch-this way you can taste the wines while skipping the highly mechanized and uninteresting winery. Enjoy the panoramic views while enjoying a three course meal with wine (around €75 pp)
