I would not really rate this restaurant very highly despite the reputation it appears to have i.e. made famous by the late Maeve Binchy in many of her books. Maybe I'm biased in saying this, but it no longer has the Irish owner who ran it for many years! Four of us had dinner there a few nights ago and we all chose the early bird menu with very limited choices but pretty good value at €18.75 for 3 courses. We all had sirloin steak for mains which were small in size but cooked to each of our likings. Starters of deep fried Brie and pate were lovely and well presented but the desserts were a let down... Ice cream pretty mean portion of only two scoops, the chocolate brownie smothered in chocolate sauce was delicious but when asked for a small serving of either cream or ice cream to go with it, this request was refused, I kid you not!...on grounds that this is how the early bird version is served! As the evening was so hot we were moved downstairs which had air con in this part of the restaurant but it totally lacked atmosphere as we were the only diners there, plus it did not have a very pleasant smell!
All in all not a very happy dining experience and in my opinion there are many other restaurants nearby serving similar type fare at a much more reasonable price. read more
