Roermond offers fantastic shopping only an hour drive from Cologne, with weekend shuttles from both Cologne and Düsseldorf. Great deals at high-end European designer brands and usually much better than the pricing I've seen at American outlets: Prada, Gucci, Burberry. For example, I was at the Prada outlet in Woodbury New York in the summer, and the selection was similar to Roermond Prada except priced significantly higher. Very good selection and typically 40-70% off. Outlets are also very clean with both English and German signs and English-speaking sales reps. American brands are a different story, typically priced of course higher compared to the States, especially in regards to the Euro, but still a great deal here in Europe. Brands include Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Fossil, and more. A great and fun place for a day of shopping. Went on a weeknight to avoid the crowds. :) On a holiday or weekend, expect larger crowds and sometimes even lines outside certain stores. The lines can be annoying, but I honestly prefer lines and crowd regulation to packed elbow-to-elbow masses inside the stores.

The outlet village is a little smaller than most of the outlet malls you will find in America but it was still fun to try to find bargains. We found a few here and there. I think the real treat was just to relax enjoy a drink and just people watch for most of the day.

Still stuck in Germany because of #covid19 and US travel regulations…read more As we were scheduled to fly home weeks ago, we did not bring any summer clothes for the #princessforoneday tour. So went to buy some - and had one of the worst shopping experiences ever - and I do not mean masks and tough security rules (you can buy a caffe latte at Starbucks, but you have to leave the outlet premises to legally drink it - what's wrong with drinking a latte to go while you walk???) No hellos, no thank you for coming in, no thank you for your business - I felt like an unwelcome intruder in almost all of the shops. Sorry, I won't go again. Staff seriously needs service attitude coaching. All of them.
