I just purchased the parts to do a 3 axle trailer brake job, I got most of the Parts from R&P and next time will get all. Mostly went without a problem but when a problem happened It has been a long time since I can say it was handled as well as this company handled it, Josh and Amy were so quick to correct UPS screw up and got me the right and missing parts very fast and no hassle about who was to blame, I had the problems in just a couple days. I bought a RNR trailer from R and P Carriages last fall to haul a large motorcycle on long trips. I just came back from a 4,000 mile trip so I'm now in a position to write a more complete review than if I had written one the day I purchased the trailer. First, the sales staff was very friendly and low-pressure - actually, no pressure at all. I really appreciate that and will walk when I feel pressured when buying things. They recommended the perfect trailer for my purposes and, after taking it on the the trip, I'm extremely happy with it. Now, I'm going to mention a couple minor things but they really are minor and I still give R and P five stars. First, the young guy who hooked up the trailer really didn't seem to know what he was doing. This is my first trailer so I wasn't sure if it was just me or him. I noticed that he didn't grease the hitch ball so I asked him about that. He said they didn't grease the balls because it made it easier for the trailer to become disconnected. A little thought tells anyone that that makes no sense. If the receiver is adjusted properly the connection won't break because of grease. You want the ball to be greased to move freely. In fact, when I got the trailer home, the ball showed wear already from just the ride home from running dry. I grease it now. All forums dedicated to trailers recommend greasing the ball for good reason. Secondly, he didn't understand how to set the trailer brake. Of course, that's something I had to do but the method he described wasn't correct. His method would work but not optimally. Ford recommends that you pull the trailer on flat dry road at 20 - 35 mph and then squeeze the trailer brake fully. If the trailer brakes lock up, reduce the brake adjustment. Set it so it is just short of locking up. (The truck brakes aren't used during this procedure.) A little thought shows why Ford recommends this procedure. The guy who hooked up the trailer never heard of this method. No big deal, though. Lastly, the hitch he gave me was 4" too high. I didn't notice how high the trailer was riding in front until I stopped. I contacted R & P and they quickly sent out the proper ball hitch. One other thing and this really speaks to how good the folks are at R & P carriages are. On the trip, I noticed that the interior lights weren't working. I'll track the problem and fix it myself but I contacted R &P via email to ask a couple questions that would speed up the diagnosis. They responded to my email via phone within 15 minutes and the guy I talked to gave me great information to help me track down the problem. He knew exactly what he was talking about and was extremely helpful and he also reminded me that they would be happy to fix it under warranty. (I live about 50 miles from them so I'll try to fix it myself first. Great folks! Great products. I would definitely deal with them again. read more

I love and support family run businesses, and this is really a great one. I lost the hub covers for my trailer and I didn't know really where to turn. Tried getting some from Farm and Fleet but of course they didn't fit properly and I couldn't get the other ones to stay on. So I took the trailer out to R and P. I was greeted outside by Paul who saw me pull in and he already knew why I was there just by looking at it. He said of course they had what I needed and he had one of his guys go grab the parts and we just decided to do both sides of the double axel trailer so it doesn't happen on the other side too. Paul and his wife also told me how to maintain them and how they work. They were very nice and helpful. Bam, I was in and out in 6 minutes flat and back on the road. A+ for these guys. I'll be back if I ever need anything else for the trailer. read more

In the past I have rented auto hauling trailers from them that were much better than the typical rentals and there prices were lower. It was a drive for me (40 min) but well worth having a quality maintained trailer transport vehicles providing me peace of mind. I quickly grew to where I needed my own and looked around at 3 different dealers. Something told me to go back to them and they had one better (tilt) that what I was looking at on sale. I am not going to gloss over things I can see where others are critical of customer service. No they aren't going to smooth talk you and make you feel good like typical salespeople. In my case it was here is the trailer and here is the price (non negotiable). But where they really shine is that they are really informative and excellent in service and stock a wide range of parts. They had all the extras I needed to strap down vehicles (with the know how), plus the few issues I have had with the trailer they were really quick to solve them. I bought a winch elsewhere and installed it and had them look over it and they rearranged the wiring to make it safer, something that they didn't have to do but I really appreciate. They are worth the drive for quality trailers and service in my book! read more

If zero stars was an option, this company would have earned it. Called the company directly rather than use their ebay page as I prefer the customer service you can receive when talking to a person directly; inventory status, shipping estimates to your zone, etc. I placed an order for two half torsion axles around 11am and was told that my order would ship that day. I thought, "Great!" and proceeded to finish the custom trailer I was building, locating structural beams in places to interface with the axles I had just purchased. I received a call from the company over 26 hours later informing me that the axles were not in stock, that they had been purposely running their inventory low due to a software change, and that they would not be available for 3 weeks. I asked the woman to at the very least, refund the shipping charges (59 ish dollars) as I was waiting three weeks longer than expected and to give me updates and tracking on my order via email. She said she would ask her boss, but would let me know. I received a call a few minutes later saying they would not refund the shipping. I asked to speak to the "boss". I got no more than a few words in before I was very rudely interrupted and received a long diatribe on why this happened. When I was able to speak and explain my situation I was again very rudely interrupted, and then HUNG UP ON after being told my order was being refunded and that stuff happens. No response to my call back I have never actually been treated so rudely by a customer service representative. I am all about supporting an American "Mom and Pop" shop, but I am encouraging any person looking to do business with R and P to seek elsewhere. How you deal with customers when you are in the weeds speaks volumes to an organizations character. I will take my business, and anyone that I can convince, to take their business elsewhere. read more

They sold us a trailer for our motorcycle last week. I am not complaining about the trailer, it is fine. But, if you can find another business that ells trailers in the suburban Chicago, I highly recommend doing business anywhere but with R and P Carriages. Part of being a happy customer is not only with the purchase and quality of the purchase, but the way you are treated during a transaction. THe owner, Paula, was very rude and unapporachable. Apparently she's not accustomed to working with a female and doesn't have a clue about salesmanship. Not only did she exclude me from conversationsbut pointedly refused to answer my questions. Treated me with utter disrespect and contempt. To say I did not leave witha warm, fuzzy feelng is the understatement of the year. My husband had already prearranged everything over the phone, and we were in need of purchasing this trailer quickly, so we did end up buying it. But, I would NEVER recommend them to anyone else. Research another possilbe business that sells trailers and go out of your way if you can. She made it seem like shewas doing US a favor by selling us this &1,800 trailer, not the other way around! It's obvious that she wears the pants in the family and has a problem with women buyers. RUdeness is NEVER acceptable in my book and I will forever be telling people about the service and attitude I experienced at R and P Carriages. Would never buy from them again!!! read more
