R.D Gia very much fits in to the great tradition of news agents and corner stores, reminding me of shops I'd visit with my parents as a child, before larger shops with bright strip lighting and aesthetic values came into fashion. We're talking a fairly small shop (much smaller than the deceptively large store front would have you believe), crammed full of all manner of day to day goods, from cereal to spam, toiletries and cleaning products to newspapers, magazines, and in the digital age, what seems like an especially large selection of pornographic magazines. Oh, and there's a fair bit of booze as well, all in an area smaller than an average office.
It's not particularly special a newsagents and doesn't arose any particular emotion in me, but then again, do any newsagents arouse passion ? Answers on a postcard please...... read more
