And I Raan, I Raan so far away...okay maybe 80s new wave lyrics aren't the best way to start off this review, especially because I wouldn't run far away from Raan Thai. This place definitely has some decent Thai delights when it comes to their grub which is what my wife and I found out a few weeks back for takeout dinner. You see we were finishing up some errands and looking for something different to try that we could pick up to take home with us. Enter Raan Thai. Location-wise it might get overshadowed right next to Osteria Umbra and a few other storefronts, but it still holds its own space with its bright glowing blue lettering you can see from the street. Inside, there's nothing special about the decor. It's really your average tables and chairs with a little Thai flare scattered about. What's most important here is the food and after ordering it online, we showed up at the time stated and our bag of tastiness was ready and waiting. The friendly staff member handed it off to us and we were on our way. Back home, we dove into everything we got (which we knew was probably going to be two-meals worth so no judgement). We started with some Thai wonton soup which had a delicious broth and some big chicken wontons filling up that large cup. The wontons were fine, but honestly I could've just downed the broth on its own. Next up were some spring rolls which were perfectly crispy and had a great mixture of flavors between the veggies and noodles (plus the sweet chili sauce on the side was legit). After that, my wife and I split some Thai fried rice (mild heat) and that bowl of grains was fantastic. My main course was pad ki mao (drunken noodle) which I got at medium heat and it was near perfection. My wife had pad Thai which she said was good (I tried it as well), though I feel I might have had others that were a little more balanced in flavors. Besides that, the only other semi-miss were these free chicken dumplings that came with the meal for how much we spent. Not something I would've ordered as they were a little chewy, but it was worth trying for no additional cost. Oh and everything was washed down with a sweet and brightly colored Thai iced tea. Yum! Overall, Raan Thai has some serious legitimacy here with a lot of what they offer. Perhaps a few menu items slightly missed the mark, but the ones that hit were bullseyes. I'd definitely throw them into the Thai rotation in the future. And instead of trying to throw another "ran" joke out there, just insert one here in yourself and get over to Raan Thai so you can give em a shot.

Our go to Thai place. Food is delicious and flavorful and you can specify the spice level between 1 to 5. Frequently get take out and typically order shrimp or tofu pad thai, shrimp or chicken drunken noodle, spicy green beans with tofu and green or massaman curry with chicken or tofu. Their grilled pork fried rice is very good too as well as their curry puffs and spring rolls. Gets very busy around dinner time and we sometimes have to wait for our take out up to 40 minutes.

Has always been my favorite for thai food in Stony Brook! The thai tea is actually concentrated and has proper thai tea flavor. Really unfortunate I'm giving a bad review for this place that I used to love many years ago when it was actually run by Thai people. New ownership took over and it's absolutely horrible. Not sure why Chinese people are now running a Thai restaurant and twisting the dishes into more Chinese-inspired dishes. The overall quality of food has gone downhill tremendously since and the place is not being up-kept either as the interior is grungy looking and having to sit on flat ripped cushion seats is a red flag alone. Food: The spring rolls here are definitely not Thai spring rolls anymore but rather the big Chinese spring rolls that are flavorless. The authentic Thai ones (that this place used to have) are much smaller and tastier. Also, I ordered the chicken coconut soup which was a big mistake as it was inedible. Im not picky and have never had any issues at restaurants but this soup was so bad that I could not eat it and had to send it back and got refunded by the nice lady server. It tasted like canned soup (worse actually), consistency was watery/jelly-like and flavor was awful. As soon as the soup arrived, I smelt something odd until I realized it was the soup and before tasting already knew I wouldn't like it and sure enough thats what happened. Hands down the worst soup I've ever had unfortunately. My mother is also not thrilled with anything here anymore such as the Pad See Ew dish and curry puffs that they changed as well. My family and I will not be returning sadly. If you want real Thai food that's good quality, I'd recommend to check out Thai House Restaurant in Smithtown or Sawadee in East Northport.

This is one of my favorite Thai spots in Long Island. I travel 30 minutes here to eat because I think the quality and flavors are worth it. I like how their items aren't overly greasy. They have tons of flavor options. You can request spice level 1-5. I really enjoy spice 2-3 as a spice lover. Anything above that my mouth goes numb lol. They have unique radish peanut dumplings that are so fresh and tasty. Their yellow curry has sweet potatoes that complement the curry so well. I have never seen this anywhere else.

A really quiet, intimate and unassuming restaurant, frankly in the middle of nowhere. I had heard great things about this place and I was really excited to check it out. We ordered and our drinks came out right away. Unfortunately, our food took about 20-25 minutes to come out, and the hostess apologized a lot, saying that a large take-out order had come in right when had ordered. In that communication, service was a 10/10. I got the classic chicken pad thai, with a 4/5 spice level. They apparently also do a 6/5 "extra Thai spicy," for those of you who like it extremely hot. I found 4/5 spicy, but I needed a bit more extra punch and asked for extra chili on the side. The noodles were a bit hardened (maybe it got cold?), but the flavor was nice and sweet/salty, filled with umami. This is a nice neighborhood Thai spot that I'd be interested in coming back to every once in a while.

Solid local spot for thai food! I've been craving Thai since moving to the area a few months back. We visited Raan Thai based on reviews. The service was wonderful, simple but very cozy atmosphere, and good thai food. The dishes we tried were a bit too sweet for my taste, and compared to other Thai i've had, so I would just order differently next time. Would definitely visit again to try more of the great looking menu!

Went in one night for dinner. Every table was taken but it was only about a five minute wait for a table. This place is very popular and once you taste their food you'll know why. Everyone was nice friendly and helpful. The ambiance is nice. It was busy, but quiet and relaxing. I tried the Thai Tea which was very different than anything I'd had before. Definitely go and try this place. Try the iced tea, the pastry puffs, and the coconut chicken soup. They are not equipped to handle large groups but they have ample parking and can support take out orders.

It could be just me I don't know but the reviews were so positive but I just did not like this place. Service was great our waitress was amazing handling tables, attending to customers picking up orders and answering calls. The prices are reasonable and if you pay in cash you get 10% off your check. I'm surprised they just don't make it a cash only establishment. We ordered their spring rolls, beef satay and dumplings. I did not like any of the dishes. I ordered their chicken fried rice with tomatoes this dish was okay. Overall, just not a great food experience for me. read more

Raan Thai is fabulous, it's the best Thai food on Long Island. They are also amazing if you are gluten free, vegan or vegetarian. It's the only place where their take-out is as good as their dining room. I felt compelled to leave a review and show my support after enjoying last night's leftovers. Great service, food is average. Ordered a pad woonsen and mango sticky rice. The pad woonsen was just ok. It tasted more like a chinese mei fun rather than a thai dish. 2/5 Mango sticky rice had hard rice, but the mango was good. 2/5 +1 star for good service Will not return. For a 16$ meal I was a given a portion size equal to what I would give my cat as shown in the photo that is how much they filled up my takeout order. Not only that but I found a black piece of hair on top of the onions which is unfortunate as I didn't bother to eat it considering that along with the joke of a portion size they gave me. read more

I have had many a thai food in my life and maybe it's bc I am thai myself that I am more critical. This place I tried their fried rice, pad thai, salmon green curry, pad see eww, drunken noodles, laad nar. What I will have to say is that it uses very sweet pre made sauces possibly. My fried rice prior was very not tasty in terms of how it is supposed to have a pop of lime and flavor from the tomatoes and onions. The salmon green curry had American broccoli- that is very odd. It was way too spicy to consume. The masaman curry had a very odd sweet undertone that was off putting. My pad see eww lacked the dark soy sauce that is signature of this dish. The drunken noodles pad kee mao tasted the best of all the dishes but not the most impressive again. It just did not have any of the thai five taste responses. The service was nice but the food lacked in every department. I would not go if u like authentic thai taste read more

Been coming here for the last few years now. The food is always fresh and all house made, even the curry puffs which is rare. Really impressed with the consistency here, you always know what you're getting. If you don't specify the spice level, the food come on the milder side, but you can always request to have it spicier (spicy ranges on a scale from 1-5). The marinated pork is a great choice with any noodle or dish where you have a choice of protein. Staff and owner are really nice and welcoming and the restaurant is always clean. There are 5 tables inside spaced very far apart with I appreciate. I read a funny meme the other day saying "why spend $15 on pad Thai when you can spend $45 on the ingredients to make a worse pad Thai." This holds true. Support your local businesses. I for one will keep supporting Raan Thai. read more

Yelp you did not do us wrong on this one. Passing through the area and came across this complete GEM!! By far the best Thai food we've had!! The roti was amazing; just flaky goodness!! The peanut sauce does not disappoint & my meal the sautéed basil with chicken was delish! My hubby got the Massaman curry with chicken and he scraped his plate clean. Nice server, food came quick. Our first visit here is mixed. While the food was good, we wont return for one reason that just drives me crazy when restaurants do it. Fist the food. An appetizer with spring roll, chicken satay and chicken wings was good all around. Wings were crispy but could have used some seasoning. Spring rolls were crispy and satay good. Entrees of drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice were both standard fare. Now the thing that drives me crazy. For those that dont routinely eat at Thai restaurants, chili-garlic sauce is like ketchup is in other restaurants. Most Thai restaurants ask if you want it or bring it to the table with your meal. It wasnt brought with the meal and wasnt on the table so I ask the waitress for chili sauce so I can add some heat to my dish. She brings me a small dish with about a tablespoon of sauce which was fine until I was given the check and was charged $1 for the chili sauce. Its not the point of the money. To me the point is that you didnt tell me you were going to charge me for the sauce which is like charging for ketchup when getting a burger. When the waitress comes over and asks how everything was I tell her it was good however you charged me for chili sauce and I'm not happy about that. Her answer was ok, well I'll make a note of that. Not I'll let a manager know, or an offer to take it off. Just I'll make a note. OK, well I made a note that we wont be going back. Any place that charges me for a condiment and doesnt tell me, doesnt get my business. read more

Drunken noodles and spicy fried rice are so good at this place. They are super accommodating if you are vegan. They'll leave out the fish sauce and egg from any dishes that have it. The service is always quick and fast whether you're dining in or taking out. I live further out east but will always take out from here if I'm close by. read more

My family and I have been to Raan Thai twice and the food has been consistently excellent. Now it doesn't have a fancy atmosphere; it's more like being welcomed to someone's home kitchen. For appetizer I would definitely recommend the Roti and chicken satay. The flat and clear noodle dishes are also tasty with a choice of chicken, beef, shrimp or faux chicken. Lastly, if you are a curry fan, you will not be disappointed. Just the right amount of spice reminding you this isn't westernized Thai food. read more

Don't be put off by the strip mall lovation-Raan Thai is where its at! I had the green curry with tofu that was perfectly spiced (3 on their scale of 5), had a perfect amount of veggies and was equally delicious the next day! I didn't love my veggie dumplings-they tasted more deep fried than pan fried and the inside consistency was a bit congealed. My partner had the wonton soup and the pork drunken noodles-both were absolutely delicious. I'd definitely go back! read more

What a little hidden gem! Raan Thai is located in a strip mall that has some vacant stores: not a very picturesque outside first impression, but you must try this place! Clean establishment, friendly service, accurate orders, and decent pricing! Tom kha soup was wonderful, nice coconut flavor! We ordered the appetizer combo which consists of three appetizers you choose off the menu. We got the spring rolls, summer rolls, and chicken satay. All three were fresh, flavorful, and plentiful. I especially loved the peanut dipping sauce for the satay. We shared the vegetable red curry with brown rice. WOW was it spicy--if you aren't a fan of hot, be sure to ask them to tone it down. We didn't think to do that, but I added a pit of peanut sauce to mine afterward to make it a little less spicy and it was great. Our whole lunch, consisting of the soup, triple appetizer for two, and entree came to under $40. A great deal! Our server Katie was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu items. We were the only ones dining in for lunch, but there were a couple other customers in and out for pick-up orders. I would definitely be interested in trying their other menu items in the future! read more

I considered a five star rating. Let's say it's more like 4.5 in my book. The place is small. Nothing fancy. No frills, but clean, staff was friendly and the food...Oh the food! It was SO DAMN GOOD! Our 8 year old had never eaten Thai and after tasting the chicken pad-thai and pineapple fried rice she said...MOM, I LOVE THAI FOOD! We were there as soon as they opened so the food came out quickly. I had Thai Green Curry with chicken...so good. If you're looking for a great place for Thai. JUST GO THERE and enjoy cause trust me, you will! read more

I have been meaning to write a review of Raan Thai for a while but after today's meal I knew it was time to spread the word. I get lunch here multiple times a week (sometimes almost every day) and each time I love it more and more. Not only is the food incredible (and veg friendly), but the staff is kind and attentive. This is probably my favorite thai restaurant in this area. I love their drunken noodle and pad Thai. I also enjoy their pineapple fried rice, red curry, and panang curry. I will probably try more. I haven't had a bad experience. Only downside is that it can be kind of pricey if you don't get the lunch special and you order multiple orders. read more

After my favorite Thai restaurant closed in Astoria, I thought I would never find another restaurant that could come close. Well- I was wrong about that!! Raan Thai is my new favorite. My favorite dishes are the spicy noodle with chicken and red curry with chicken. Spicy fried rice is great too. For appetizer- try the curry puffs. I'm very torn about this restaurant. When it's good, it's freaking great-when it's bad, it's basically inedible. I didn't know it was possible to mess up tofu pad Thai. I don't understand why there are never any peanuts or lime included when you take out pad Thai from this restaurant. The prices are very reasonable and the portion size is good. Get the appetizer sampler! My last order was a giant waste of money and I keep saying I'm never going back but I must love the abuse because I keep going back. I have tried an assortment of different entrées and every time I order something different I hope that it'll taste better than the last time but maybe I just haven't found my *dish* yet. On one hand, with the change of ownership came great upgrades! I love being able to order online! On the other hand, with the change of ownership and staff came inconsistent food. read more

2 stars because our waitress was great, but overall I did not enjoy the food. After reading all of the great reviews I was really excited to try out this place. I've tried a lot of thai places and this by far was the most bland food I've ever had. Soon as we sat down the couple who was seated across from us left their food which they hardly touched on the table and got up and left. That made me very nervous but I wanted to form my own opinion, I ordered the Tam Yam Noodle and it had a very tangy taste. I think if i would have told them to make it spicy It would have tasted better. My husband had the Fish Garlic and he had them make it spicy so it tasted pretty good but it's kinda hard to mess up vegetables and fry fish. I won't be returning read more

This is my favorite Thai restaurant, everytime I want to eat Thai food I always go here. I have tried other Thai restaurants but nothing beats this one. I always order pad won sen, my sister orders the pad Thai with with a little bit of spice, and my mom orders the pineapple fried rice. The food is so flavorful and the people there are nice and welcoming. I love Thai iced tea, so I order that along with my food. Sometimes I get something different and I still don't get disappointed. My favorite dish is the pad won sen and the drunken noodle. read more

Probably some of the best Thai food I've ever had! Plenty of vegan options, and very kind customer service. Delicious and authentic Thai food ! I haven't found a local place this good anywhere in Suffolk County. It's very similar to homemade like my mother used to make ! Thank you for also for packing it so perfect, separating noodles from sauce. I highly recommend and will order again soon! read more

The staff who prepared the salad was very gracious and asked us whether we like the salad to be mixed, and how we like our dressings, etc. It's all the little touches that made us felt special as customers. I am glad that there are plenty of other choices to try, such as make your own salad, burrito, etc. Speaking of clean, the bathroom was immaculate and it goes to all these touches that make a place stand out. We will definitely be back.

They also cautioned about the price so, after selling off an inherited Monet, off we went! Umbra is in a nondescript strip mall with a Thai place next door. Dark, front-facing windows give it a chic look but... oh no... fake flowers. Normally, not a big deal but for a place known for being upscale, it seemed incongruous for the vibe. More on that later. Inside was cool and urban chic. Long bar gives view of their famous oven. Seating was comfortable enough though the artificial flowers and grapes (circa 1984 Patchogue's Fantasy Gardens) detracted. I get that they're trying to do an Italian countryside thing but it seemed forced. The food was a mixed bag. Wagyu tartar with quail egg was pretty awesome; rich, minerally, unctuous. So far so good. Cocktail was tasty and the wine was fine. But then... Wife got a pasta dish that she was happy with. She found it to be very good but not exemplary. I ordered the veal osso buco which was a tremendous disappointment. The bed of risotto was terrific but it seemed like they simply placed several (small) medallions of veal in the middle surrounding a tiny bone and then dropped sauce all over it. I'm a grown man and have faced all sorts of disappointments in my life (being an Islanders fan conditions you to this) but I kinda wanted to cry when that came to the table. I've had osso buco other places and this plate fell well short. (I actually was arguing with a friend who is a tremendous fan of Umbra and, when I showed him the pic, he fell silent. I included pics of two other osso bucos for comparison). Friends had mentioned that the steaks are really good here but I kinda go to steak joints for steaks, ya dig? They make their own pasta so maybe I should have chosen one of those dishes. Affogato for dessert which was less than what I was expecting but is (according to friend in the know) the classic and traditional preparation so no real complaints there. The service was very good, however. Both our waitress and the bartender/sommelier were attentive, friendly and well-informed. All-in-all, a nice place. A VERY nice place. But I think it's a tad overpriced and overhyped for what it is. We usually like to give a spot a second or third try but at the price point, probably not. Give it a shot if you've got money to burn but be aware of the cost and that some things may fall short of your expectations.

nice decorating. small place. friendly staff BUT! 2 stars rating is for service and food. even the staff was friendly but theyre so slow. it took them so long to take care of me and my friends. we waited for them to take us to a table. it took them another 10minutes to get our drinks. to be honest, the food doesnt taste like real Thai food. I have read the reviews of how good the food and service were and got so many rating. Nope! I wondered if these people even had REAL thai food before. I grew up in Thailand and have gone to Thailand every year. this is a very disappointing. Pad Thai doesnt taste like Pad Thai... green curry noodle is just.... Thai options are somewhat limited in the area so I was hesitant to think a good one would pop up. I was surprised that Raan was actually very good. I'm boring and tend to stick with Pad Thai which was quite good and a decent amount of chicken which many of these places are cheap with. Friend got the Pad See Eww which she said was just alright. So from my experience I would come again and maybe try another dish however my rating for the Pad Thai stands as is. Oh and the service was just okay, I didn't mind that though read more

They offer large portions of entree's! You really get a good value for what you pay, oh did I mention the food was really good?
