I hired Raatz Fencing Company at my builder's recommendation because they were familiar with our neighborhood HOA requirements and had a good reputation locally. At their request, I provided a plat plan and was given an estimate that included specific measurements which would have kept the fence fully within my property boundary. The initial installation looked well done from a workmanship standpoint and based on that I recommended Raatz to three neighbors, all of whom ended up using them for their fences. A few months later, once construction began on the neighboring property, it became clear that the fence had been installed over the property line. Upon further review, the issue appears to be that the installation crew did not follow the measurements listed on the original estimate. Instead, they extended the fence by approximately 7 to 8 feet on one side for reasons that were never explained. Had the crew followed the documented measurements, the fence would not have crossed the property boundary. When I contacted the company to correct what was clearly an installation error, I was told that their crews are instructed not to follow the estimate's measurements and that it was my responsibility to verify the work during installation. This response makes no sense. As a homeowner, I relied on the estimate, the provided plat plan, and the company's stated expertise to ensure the fence was installed correctly. I should not be expected to oversee measurements or catch deviations from the company's own documentation. To make matters worse, I am now being charged to correct a mistake that was the direct result of their installation decisions. The stress and additional cost of fixing this has completely overshadowed what initially appeared to be quality work. While the fence materials and appearance may be good, correct placement is fundamental. Based on how this situation was handled and the refusal to take responsibility, I cannot recommend Raatz Fencing Company. read more

They installed fence for each of the houses that back up to our backyard last October. We were not aware until completed. They did not use same whole for one of the posts and instead dug a different whole and in the process, cut into our irrigation line. We only became aware of it this month when we had our irrigation system turned back on for the season. Ended up costing us $201.50. I have contacted them 3 times over the last few weeks, and no response. Would not recommend them at all and will keep stating this until they make this right. read more

They were a day early, which was great. Scott and crew came out and started to work immediately. He explained everything about the job completely. They started at 9 and were done by 3. Spent alot of money to put in a PVC privacy fence. They originally did a good job putting it in. But like alot of people I received storm damage. Trees fell on the fence, called the same company to fix it. Told me they are not doing repairs right now. I guess they could make more money else where. Reached out to them again They will not respond. Finally got them to come out to give me an estimate. It's been 3 weeks now. I have reached out to them, with no response. Did a good job putting up the fence but less than a year later the fence is leaning. We have called several time over a months time while the fence was still in warranty and they have yet to come out and look at it but insist the wood is warped and not covered under warranty. The wood is not warped, it's leaning. The wood is loose from the post. They did not dig it deep enough. It's funny how they know what's wrong with and haven't even been out to see it. The estimate was reasonable, and everyone was on time, and actually did the job a week earlier than was scheduled. They were able to assess the damage and project needs by digital images that I provided via email, they performed an assessment of what needed to be done, and got the project scheduled/completed in a timely manner. Not the quality I'd expect from a $8k+ fence. I've been calling since July trying to get them to come fix it. They promise to call with scheduling details and then don't. Completely frustrating and unhelpful. *Update* They finally sent someone over on 9/15 (first phone call was 7/28) to fix the gate. Unfortunately, I see no evidence of digging or reseating the post and it's just as wobbly as before. Not sure if they went to the wrong house or what happened. Anyway, I give up. Raatz installed a fence in May. It was poorly installed, so it settled in the ground in a way that the gate will not open. Raatz explained that it sometimes happens, but because we didn't report the settling until September -- as opposed to May -- we were on our own. The office staff was unresponsive, unconcerned, and generally void of any customer service skills. Buyer beware: keep an eye on your fence. If Raatz's defects in workmanship don't develop within one year, you are on your own. I recommend taking your business to a fence company with greater pride in workmanship and customer service commitment. read more

We love our fence! We live at a corner lot in St Matt's and needed a privacy fence for the side yard. We decided to do a privacy fence with aluminum on one side. They came and installed quickly and efficiently. I cannot tell you how many compliments we have received from the neighborhood. Awful!!!! 0 stars!!!!! Didn't concrete the posts correctly, every time it's windy the panels come out!!!! They won't fix their errors. Charged me to also fix on of their mistakes and has yet to to resolve that issue even though i was told that bill would be taken care of, but I have no receipt, which I requested!! I would never reccomend this company. Also they put the locks on the gate to enter on the INSIDE. THEY GO ON THE OUTSIDE. therefore our fence doesn't open correctly. I can't believe they can run a business and not value the customer, their opinions or others. When I've taked to JAMES hes rude, doesn't call back and doesn't value the opinions of his customers its disgusting how I've been treated considering I paid almost 7g for a fence. The absolute worst company I have ever dealt with. Believe it or not, they are even worse than Time Warner Cable. The fence was installed terribly....it is cut unevenly, the pickets have chunks that have fallen off within just a few months, three posts were cracked halfway through from top to bottom, gate does not function and has warped, and two pickets popped right off....all in less than a year. Another post is now loose and sways. They left the old posts in the ground, sticking up, next to the new posts. The fence comes with a one yr warranty but that it totally useless when the company doesnt actually stick to their own contract unless you take them to small claims court. They will not return phone calls,(and began ignoring my calls-had to start trying on my office phone) will NOT repair fence, and act as if I never called...each time I call. The customer service is a nightmare. Management and owners are also a nightmare. I had a local hardware company come out to repair my new fence for me. The manager at the hardware store told me he has never, in his 22 yrs of management, seen such an unprofessional job. He said he was "baffled" and began calling them "the ratz of Louisville." They advertise being a family business and having much experience if the field. This is a highly disfunctiontional family, lacking in values, who are in the business of acting unethically and taking peoples hard-earned money. read more

If I could, I'd give this company zero stars. They came to my house to build a fence in my back yard, and I specifically told them that the fence could not come more than 5 feet out from either side of the house. They were told this several times. When the man came out to do our estimate, we told him that we were going to have a stake survey done, and he said that if we know how far from the house the fence should be, then there is no need to "waste money" on a stake survey. (Jim at Raatz denies that we were told this, but we were.) So, we really liked the fence, and we were happy... Until ground was broken next door for a new house. The builder told us that our fence was over the property line on both sides of our house, and we were going to need to move the fence. We were furious! We called Raatz, and they said they'd move the fence... FOR $500. They drew a diagram on the contract we signed that was very specific about the 5 foot instructions. But, there's a clause in the contract that says the buyer is responsible for the placement of materials. That's fine, but they were instructed on where to out the materials, and they didn't do that. Jim (at Raatz) said he figured the 5 feet was just an "estimate." What kind of builder works with estimates? Building is an exact science! So, we were going to have to pay $500 to fix their mistake, and they made it sound like they were doing us a favor by not charging more. Then, we found out that the builder wasn't going to make us move the left side of the fence, so, mathematical sense would say that the $500 would be knocked down to $250, right? (half the work, half the price) but, no. They still wanted to charge us $400! That's insane. We eventually cancelled the repair because someone else offered to help us move the fence for free. But I would have cancelled anyway, because I'd rather pay someone else $1,000 than to give Raatz another penny of my money. Buyer beware. Their fence builders don't know how to use a tape measure. read more

We had our new black aluminum fence installed Monday, a day earlier than originally scheduled, which worked out great for us. Three installers showed up at 9 a.m. and were done by 6 p.m. They were so considerate of what we needed and were very accommodating on a couple little tweaks. They were professional and courteous - a pleasure to do business with from Greg, the salesperson, to the installers. From acceptance of their proposal to the beginning of the job took about three weeks. Once they had our survey the job was scheduled. When the installers left, every piece of cardboard, every string, box and plastic wrapper went with them (you'd never know they'd been there except for the beautiful fence!). Raatz installed a fence for a neighbor along my property line where we had just planted and mulched several new plants. When digging their holes they dumped dirt all over our new plants with no regard for our property. I was cleaning it up the best I could and one of their workers approached me and said they'd take care of it. I explained to him that, "No offense, but I don't trust people who would even do this to clean it properly". He snapped back and said, "We use an auger so we don't have a choice". I responded, "Yeah you do, and quite frankly that not my problem". Keep in mind, this entire time, while obviously upset, I kept a calm but firm tone. At this point he got flippant and said something about how he didn't have to talk to me because I was rude and I needed to take it up with the company. So, if you want to hire a company who uses immature crews who show no care for personal property and accept no accountability, go right ahead. I would definitely not recommend it though. read more

VERY DISHONEST ! My battle with Raatz started 3 years ago. Year 1. A phone call saying we lost your order. Mr. Raatz said he's sorry and if I want to cancel my order he certainly would understand. I said no problem just do the work ASAP. Raatz installed two hand rails on my front porch. After a few weeks one railing cracked the concrete at the base and all the way across the porch. I called repeatedly. Weeks later the cracks were patched not filled. Year 2. That spring the concrete completely broke away in 3 pieces at the base of rail. Now the rail is so loose I'm sure it's unsafe. Raatz said a new repair would require rebar, framing, and more concrete. This repair would cost ME three hundred that's $300. I paid. After a few months the repair completely broke away. I must have called for repair or refund for months. Then I received the work order for the last repair saying "No Guarantee on concrete work". I was not told no guarantee. Year 3 . I stated call early spring for a final repair of refund. The Raats repairman told me " You need a concrete man" I told him my story. I tried to hand him copies of all the work done and payment receipts, he refused them and walk away. Now my front porch is unsafe. I wrote the Better Business Bureau, but still not a word from Raatz. As Sept.13,2016 P.S. Perhaps the installation would have be done correctly if the workmen weren't red eyed and reeking of marijuana. read more
