We enjoyed a nice lunch at this hillside restaurant located in the Barbaresco wine district on a Friday in July. We were in the area with a guide tasting some wine and it's was time for lunch. They've got a beautiful Terrace overlooking the Vineyards with a great view. To start we enjoyed a plate of wonderful burrata with delightfully shaved Parma ham. We each chose a pasta for our main course-me the thin spaghetti with rich and flavorful meat sauce and my wife ordered the tiny hand-pinched pasta in butter with a generous shaving of black truffle. We had a reservation on Saturday based on a recommendation of a close friend. When we arrived the staff was very friendly but then it went down hill from that point forward. We order a local wine which we had tasted only an hour earlier. We were a table of five and three of us ordered there three course menu and others order only two courses. The staff could not figure out that they should have kept the menue in the same order for everyone, first the appetisers, followed by thesecond course then main. What happened was they brought the appetiser for three and the second course for others which through off the schedule and appeared to have significantly delayed one main for one of us. In short the main course showed up so late two people had to leave the table because they were being eaten by mosquitoes while two of us had two wait for their main. If the poor serves was not bad enough when a second bottle of the local wine was requested they only then informed us they did not have another bottle. One would have thought that with a table of five guest they would have informed the table when they brought us the first bottle that they did not have any more in stock and that if we planned to have two bottle we may want to make another selection. When I raised my concern with the service, late service of the main for the final two guest with the manager she simply did not want to hear the issues and proceed my credit card with no remorse. We will never return to the restaurant and I will be more than happy to post about the poor attitude of the manager. The other issues would have been forgiven but the managers attitude and lack of apology simple cant be overlooked. read more

Nailing the Italian experience. Since Yelp is not used by many people in Italy yet, this is probably being read by more americans. So consider yourself lucky. Perfect spot with a fantastic view patio overlooking the barbaresco hillsides, this homey restaurant makes no pretentious claims. Just really great food from what we ate and saw around us. We did lunch so only did pastas to save room for dinner. But we picked right. Service was good and slow in the way italy does things but we were in no rush. The Tajarin pasta is a regional favorite and done to perfection here. I am a bolognese fan from way back and it is the dish I sample at most all Italian restaurants both in the U.S. and in Italy. This one is in what they call a "bra sausage" meat sauce. Pretty much a bolognese for those who want to generalize. And ohhhhh, my italian loving taste buds were in glorious heaven. This was one of the finest sauces I have ever eaten. Just the right moisture, highly seasoned with this sweet after kick that complemented the salty fresh parmesan I put on top. The pasta is super high in the egg yolk count so it is dense but was perfectly al dente and you can tell made fresh in house. Nicely plated as well, and I am still dreaming about it 2 weeks later. A new standard of awesome has now been seared into my bolognese stained brain. Now lets not stop here. The lasagne verde ( vegetables ) was a surprise delight. Thin shaved veggies dried or fried added texture and a bounce of flavor as they honored the top of this beautiful slice of lasagne. Creamy cheeses and bechemel with more fresh vegetables inside, it was keenly simple and superbly delicious. Two glasses of local house red wine were of course fantastic from a region that makes some of the best wine in italy and is now on a lot of wine junkie maps of italy. And cheap. Ahhh Italy.... If in the area while not in the main part of Barbaresco, its worth the short drive to visit. Lunch is the way to go since they have such a nice view. You are welcome... read more

I was trying to decide between four and five stars, but the wine eventually made me consider this a five-star experience. I was there alone, at the tail end of a vacation where the wifey had to get back to work sooner than I. Pity as this would have been a great shared experience. I was recommended the restaurant by Carmen, the hostess of the agriturismo where I was staying (again). (Message me for her contact information if you may want a nice and affordable agriturismo smack in wine country [Trezzo Tinella].) I spent quite some time with the considerably large wine list and had eventually picked a Barbaresco wine from a maker and year that looked promising, when I was told they were out of that. The waitress suggested a similar wine and I accepted. Boy, am I glad I did. That was a fantastic wine, definitely one of the more memorable wine-drinking experiences I have had. (See the picture for details.) I decided to go for the tasting menu as I was in the mood for a tour of the traditional delicacies of this season in the Alba region of Piemonte. I got that, though each served with some finesse (and actually no truffles). Very tasty. Earlier in the day I had learned that technically Barolo Chinato is really a vermouth, just a special one (in particular made from Barolo wine). So of course there are some made from other wine, and the Mancini Vermouth was indeed very much like the Barolo Chinato, just a bit more of what I thought of a vermouth character. I guess this explain China Martini, which I encountered long before Barolo Chinato, and also is in this style. Anyway, that Mancini Vermouth was a nice end to the meal along with great coffee. A fantastic dining experience, even though I didn't get to see much of the reputably great view due to high wind and eventually a rain shower. read more

Come here at sunset for dinner. A beautiful view of the surrounding barbaresco countryside. You will forget the sunset though because you will be thinking about the amazing dinner you just ate. The wife and I shared a swordfish ceviche with pineapple. Not the combination I would have expected but the sweet fruit coupled with the earthy, oily swordfish proved wonderful. Veal prepared in two local styles was tender and full of flavor. A unique peach based tiramisu capped the dinner. I should not forget to mention the overwhelming local selection of barbaresco. We had the Boffa. Traditional styled with intense forward spice and an even finish. read more

We've tried a few traditional menu's on our travels through piedmont and this was one of the best. Excellent service and a terrace view, nothing to fault, superb. read more
