    Disgusting patty

Where can I start with this place, nothing was good, in fact it was downright bad. I give one star for the curry lentil soup. Service was bad, slow we were mostly ignored. Food was freezer burnt crap that they microwaved ( see my pic of the burger "patty") it was just inedible. We were starving (just back from a 5 hour hike on the Bruce trail) and would have eaten just about anything so this should be an indication as to just how bad it was. To top it all off, the server argued with us about the inedible patty saying everything is fresh.....if that patty was fresh I'll eat my hat ( actually my hat would have tasted infinitely better)

Homemade baked goods, jams, relish, syrup, bread, gluten free options, simple classic foods done clean and tasty. To say this cafe is good is an understatement. This cafe is a hidden gem. This is the stuff that keeps urbanites like me coming back to small towns. You just can't get this in Toronto. Yea, I said it - it had to be said. You cannot get this type of "grandma's" cooking in Toronto. Toronto offers wonderful options, but for backcountry fare, you have to go to the backcountry. I know the backcountry as I go often throughout he year for camping. This is the first rural, small town cafe review I have done so thoroughly. The French toast is amazing. Not too sweet and not too dull. Well balanced flavours of cream, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon. The homemade syrup is perfect. A side order of two eggs done over easy completed this dish for my partner. I had the breakfast special: 2 eggs over easy, homemade toast with homemade jam, hash, and crispy bacon. To finish off we took the cooks recommendation and tried the homemade strawberry kiwi muffin with the homemade butter. It was served warmed up. And it was the best muffin I ever had in a long long while. Spectacular. Yes, I will return. It is one of the most charming amazing Cafes I have been to in so long. Next time I am headed up to lions head or Bruce peninsula, this will be a stop I won't miss!! One bad thing: their coffee is probably one of the worst tasting, watered down coffees ever. I am a person who enjoys the Starbucks brew. If no Starbucks is around, I will settle for a Tim horton's or a McDonald's coffee. The coffee at Rachel's cafe ranks below these three simply due to the fact it's watery and lacks full flavour. Coffee lovers, you have been warned. I don't go to cafes/diners for the coffee. I am all about the food and baked goods. If you want to try a taste of country style home cooking, this is the place. Do yourself a favour and give it a try!

First, we really like the owner and her staff. Warm, friendly and helpful group of women who seem to love what they do and enjoy interacting with people. We had a breakfast and lunch, finding it difficult to make final selections because everything looked and smelled so good. Their egg bagel sandwiches were the perfect blend of crunchy, savory and filling. We also had the grilled cheese and the tuna melt paninis. So filling and satisfying. So glad we decided to add smoothies after a morning of birding. We were really hungry and they were both really pretty, nutritious and yummy. My husband had the Berry-protein smoothie and I had the green foods smoothie. Everything we expected. On each visit, we also leave with some fresh baked treats. TruFoods has a nice selection of healthy treats and treats tailored for special diets like gluten free or vegetarian. There is ample sitting room with lots of nice art and local merchandise to explore. We brought our reading material and relaxed for an hour. Guests were steady but the cafe was never too busy. Kids and seniors alike would feel right at home. The cafe sits alone on the highway between Lions Head and Tobermory. It is worth the trip.

It was the day before Canada Day, so maybe the summer staff was getting used to serving but who hasn't gone to an ice cream place to indulge. It was skimpy and I wasn't the one eating it. Next time, I'll just head over to Foodland down the street and buy a tub of my favorite flavors instead. And then the fish and chips...ordered the whitefish since it was local. Ok, so it's more expensive than haddock which may have been better. The girl who took my order couldn't tell me how it tasted because she doesn't eat fish. I should have taken the cue ... it was fishy, thin with skin-on and lots of grey. That was the bigger disappointment. Fries weren't great either. Food took a while to be served. Including a foot long dog. Owner/cook, I assume, seemed very nice but sorry it didn't hit the mark. I understand that seasonal places have kinks to work out. But then training is a must. Otherwise the reviews turn out not so good. And I honestly will never go there again nor recommend anyone. Sorry. I read some of the Google reviews and they also show some issues that the owner tried to defend. Better service is always a recipe for more positive reviews.

We were in Tobermory for 3 days and went to the Hungry hiker twice for lunch because it was just that good! We ordered the Thanksgiving special called the "Gobbler" - consisting of smoked turkey, cranberry sauce, gravy and homemade stuffing. Perfect for a crisp fall day! I believe their most popular item is the beef brisket sandwich which was also delicious! It's a messy sandwich but it's amazing. I also tried one of their breakfast sandwiches which had a healthy amount of fried eggs, bacon and cheese on a brioche bun. Absolutely hit the spot. Lastly, their Dilly Tots were *chef's kiss*. Perfectly crispy out the outside, and fluffy on the inside. Loaded with dill to season with a sour cream dill sauce on the side. The only "downside" is that there is only outdoor seating. While it isn't the most comfortable, its part of the vibe. It probably isn't a big deal in the summer but for a chillier day, many people were eating inside their car.

This place is a solid option since they have a covered patio section for bad weather, a small playground for energetic kids, and dog water bowl for furry kids. There is a single port-a-potty if you need as well. The owner is super friendly and food comes out in a reasonable amount of time considering it's usually just one guy cooking. Food: Believer - Packed with 2-3 large eggs, bell pepper, bacon, sriracha mayo, and served with a brioche bun. It's a hearty breakfast sandwich with just enough zip to keep things interesting 4.5/5 Western - A classic egg sandwich with cheese and a smidge of ham. It's plainer than the Believer but larger and more filling. 3/5 Reuben - Pretty legit with buttered rye bread crisped on the griddle. The corned beef is warmed evenly and tender. You may want to request extra sauerkraut if you're a lover of it but it comes with a reasonable amount normally. They also serve it with a side of homemade honey mustard which is an interesting twist. This is a bit greasy but probably my favorite 5/5 Yeti - This is a seriously crunchy and juicy chicken breast sandwich. The sauce is kind of a sweet heat bbq sauce which is very tasty. It is topped with a tasty and mild coleslaw which brightens things up. A bit small to be a full meal but dang good l, my second favorite 5/5 Overall the 4.5 star rating here is well justified. The menu is extensive for a food truck and they're genuinely making fresh gourmet food. It's honestly one of the best places in Tobermory and out-competes the actual sit-down restaurants. Would highly recommend giving this place a try.
