Got some takeout for lunch after hiking the lion's head trail. Ordered the perch and chicken bacon burger. Had yam fries and a curry lentil soup with it. First, the takeout container for the fish was amazing. My leftovers stayed warm for another 30 minutes after I finished eating. The curry lentil soup was pretty good. Lots of veggies and flavour. The perch was battered and fried. The portion was quite large - but that's all it had going for it. Each piece was a bit dry and zero flavour. Even the lemon juice and tartar sauce didn't help. The yam fries were alright. Nothing special but not awful either. My wife had the burger and she said it was average. Overall it's what you'd expect from a small town diner. The lady there was friendly. They sell homemade buttertarts also... though I dropped mine so I can't comment on it this time. read more

We stopped there today to get 2 chocolate milkshakes. We did not get food of any kind so am only reviewing what we bought. The milkshakes were the most expensive we have bought at $5.50 each and were absolutely the worst we have ever had. We have had much cheaper ones from McDonalds and they were far better. The milkshakes from Rachels were watery, little flavour and not thick like you should expect from a milkshake that expensive. Save your money and avoid this place..... we won't be returning. read more

4 of us had lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon in September 2019. The menu has burgers, sandwiches, soup, salads, etc. Something for everyone. The grilled cheese with home fries (cooked on a grill the old school way and not in a deep fryer) was very good, the ruben excellent and the western sandwich was also quite good. The soup of the day was deemed excellent. We took dessert to go and I would say they looked better than they tasted (butter tarts and some of the squares). Portions are large and prices reasonable. We ordered a pizza to go and waited an 1 and 15 minutes for our food. Never once did they check in on us to let us know why it was taking so long. We had to go see for ourselves why we haven't gotten our food yet, turns out it was sitting on the counter and they forgot we were sitting outside waiting. We've been to Rachel's coffee twice and seems like a bit of jeckell and Hyde scene happening. The first time - the owner took pride in sharing with us the back story of the fresh local organic coffee served right from the Georgian Bay area. Made us want to return! The second time unfortunately didn't meet the first time. Organic coffee tasted good, but was cold. Upon reporting to the staff, rushed to the back and microwaved it. We brought friends with us and one in particular made the unfortunate mistake of asking for the difference in the small and large size coffee cups. Eyes rolled so much it looked like they would pop out of their head, and was told "go check for yourself". Stayed for an hour and the staff were watching us with hawk eyes, wondering why all 7 of us were still there, and visiting the bathroom. While the coffee itself brings this to 2 - unfortunately it looks like they wish " the world would be such a better place if I didn't have to serve customers". Well wish granted Rachel - you and your staff won't be servicing these customers or taking our money anymore! Customer service training required! read more

Where can I start with this place, nothing was good, in fact it was downright bad. I give one star for the curry lentil soup. Service was bad, slow we were mostly ignored. Food was freezer burnt crap that they microwaved ( see my pic of the burger "patty") it was just inedible. We were starving (just back from a 5 hour hike on the Bruce trail) and would have eaten just about anything so this should be an indication as to just how bad it was. To top it all off, the server argued with us about the inedible patty saying everything is fresh.....if that patty was fresh I'll eat my hat ( actually my hat would have tasted infinitely better) read more

We came in because of the good reviews. The dining room was fun with its 50's theme. They have you order at the counter and pay and then they bring the order to your table. Everything up to that point was pleasant, we waited for over a half hour for a pizza and 2 sandwiches and watched many other tables that ordered after us receive their food (including pizza). When the server finally brought our order she made a big deal of how she wanted to go home for the day. We thanked her for the food to which she replied "yeah" and walked away. We watched the server knee at a chair with a child in it to try to get passed before the mother helped move the chair in. It seemed that once they had the order and money there was no customer service and became rude. The food was good but not great and the bad service made us just want to leave. read more

Homemade baked goods, jams, relish, syrup, bread, gluten free options, simple classic foods done clean and tasty. To say this cafe is good is an understatement. This cafe is a hidden gem. This is the stuff that keeps urbanites like me coming back to small towns. You just can't get this in Toronto. Yea, I said it - it had to be said. You cannot get this type of "grandma's" cooking in Toronto. Toronto offers wonderful options, but for backcountry fare, you have to go to the backcountry. I know the backcountry as I go often throughout he year for camping. This is the first rural, small town cafe review I have done so thoroughly. The French toast is amazing. Not too sweet and not too dull. Well balanced flavours of cream, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon. The homemade syrup is perfect. A side order of two eggs done over easy completed this dish for my partner. I had the breakfast special: 2 eggs over easy, homemade toast with homemade jam, hash, and crispy bacon. To finish off we took the cooks recommendation and tried the homemade strawberry kiwi muffin with the homemade butter. It was served warmed up. And it was the best muffin I ever had in a long long while. Spectacular. Yes, I will return. It is one of the most charming amazing Cafes I have been to in so long. Next time I am headed up to lions head or Bruce peninsula, this will be a stop I won't miss!! One bad thing: their coffee is probably one of the worst tasting, watered down coffees ever. I am a person who enjoys the Starbucks brew. If no Starbucks is around, I will settle for a Tim horton's or a McDonald's coffee. The coffee at Rachel's cafe ranks below these three simply due to the fact it's watery and lacks full flavour. Coffee lovers, you have been warned. I don't go to cafes/diners for the coffee. I am all about the food and baked goods. If you want to try a taste of country style home cooking, this is the place. Do yourself a favour and give it a try! read more

Absolutely amazing place! I spent a few days in this small town and stopped here every day. This is a cute neighborhood bakery and cafe, serving all day breakfast, subs and sandwiches, and other food specials. Everything is delicious. This place also has free wi-fi available, making it a great stop in Lion's Head. The staff is friendly, and the owner, Rachel, is so nice! Plenty of outdoor seating available in addition to the well-decorated inside. My favorite was the raspberry muffins! read more

Had a Kaiser bun + 2 hashbrowns for breakfast (around $10). Double the price for a Tim Horton's comparable breakfast, but double the quality and pleasure. Bun is the size of a burger bun, eggs in it were nice and big, hashbrowns were neither oily nor over salty (which is the opposite for a typical fast food place). Definitely recommend as a breakfast stop. read more

And you get to drink it out of real English porcelain. However the potatoes for breakfast disappointed me. I think they were first boiled and later pan fried to warm up. Great little diner! Stopped here on our way back from Tobermory, it's only a few minutes off the highway. Free, fast wifi in the land of poor cell reception is a nice treat. My boyfriend and I got the same standard breakfast. I don't eat pork, so I asked the server to put the meat on my bf's plate. They gave me extra potatoes to make up for the lack of meat, which is really nice! Speaking of the potatoes: they were perfectly seasoned, the definition of classic home fries. The homemade jam that's included with the toast was delicious! There were a ton of tables outside on the screened patio, looked like a lot of regulars hanging around on a Wednesday morning. Only one server for the whole restaurant, so service was a little slow, but understandable. They have a variety of baked goods that you can grab and go, and coffee is set up for takeout, so it would also be a good place to stop and grab a snack & use the facilities. Dear Heavens...no. No. NO. We tried this place after a nice hike. We got there and then had the opportunity to look at the stuff they carry, play chess, talk, discover time travel and wonder if there was a camera on us wondering why the heck we were still sitting there one solid hour after ordering a burger and a breakfast dish.. one hour. Are you kidding me? The burger was ok but roughly half the size of the bun, the home fried potatoes were tasteless and undercooked. The breakfast was meh.... If you're hungry don't go here. We went to this diner looking to get a nice lunch but ended up waiting a whole hour after ordering a couple of very uncomplicated meals. The meals were ok but the home fries were undercooked. Pierogis were fabulous, as were the tarts, pecan and walnut. Nanaimo bar was good too. We also had a Reuben sandwich which was fine. Had to ask for thousand island. It took a while - they said they were reorganizing the kitchen. The ladies were really nice, but patience was required to get all the items in our order straightened away. Love love loved the pierogis however so don't hesitate to go there. They were very accommodating to a raucous family on the back porch as well who would have tried the patience of job. read more
