Great background for work and social. Each song has ability to rate, discussion, link to Wikipedia page about the band and lyrics for most songs. I've been a listener for about 20 years now. Hard to believe. I haven't found a single radio station that checks all of the boxes like RP does: 1) focused on music, not talk 2) commercial free 3) free 4) plays a mix of music eclectic enough to keep me interested. it's not perfect, and in the day of algo driven music stations it may be the last of it's kind, but it's as good as radio has ever been IMO. read more

I used to live in Paris, for about a year, and the thing that struck me about the radio stations was their genres were much more flexible in definition than what you find here. I loved being able to hear Guns and Roses one minute, then Edith Piaf the next. I have found myself, since my return to SF, listening to a mix of radio stations to get the variety I missed-until now! I have been listening to this station for about a week now and I really love it! The music is very eclectic, from many different genres and countries. I found it by accident when trolling around the internet and am so happy to have discovered it. I still listen to KFOG's morning show because I love Dave but more and more, this station is all I listen too. Just listen for an hour and, if hearing the same type of music for hours on end is what you can't stand, you will love this station too! I just have to figure out how to get it to the kitchen. read more

On the home page you'll see a webcam aimed at Bill's desk. Most of the time he's not there which can explain the programmed rotation of songs and prerecorded DJ comments. RP is an oldies station mixed with alt-folk and a few classical and jazz tunes thrown in to allow it to be called eclectic. My biggest peeve with the station is the same I have with commercial stations: they play the same stuff too much. They seem to have an undying love for the Talking Heads and Neko Case. Grateful Dead and Jethro Tull get an undue amount of airtime, too. I do like that you can rate the songs and create a list of your favorites and not-favorites. It's very handy for linking to iTunes to buy new music you like--and helps support the station. Bill has a good voice and does a good job of balancing station plugs with long stretches of uninterrupted music. Rebecca's voice is really flat and droning. I know it's a family affair, and she only has one recorded bit of her saying the website address, but it's really flat and annoying. I like that you can express an opinion about songs as part of a community. Their website, tee shirts, and mugs could use some design love. They should hire a pro for that. I do heard good, new music on RP and it's a joy not having to hear commercials. Bill and Rebecca love what they do and the station is a success. If they'd play less and put a moratorium on the Talking Dead and the Grateful Heads, I'd give them four stars. If they promise never to play Neko Case again, I'll give them 5 stars. read more

Radio Paradise has been with me through some great jobs and some terrible ones. Whatever my work situation, RP is the highlight of my workday. I may not love every song, but RP has introduced me to some wonderful artists, both new and old. My favorite features of RP: It's truly commercial free. Multiple bandwidths to choose from. Music you'd never hear on the radio (and some you would). The song list is available online. You can rate the songs and talk about them. Bill doesn't seem to pay much attention to the naysayers on the comments section. Support them if you can, but definitely give them a listen. I think you'll be hooked. read more

Just want to respond to the review by Ted G posting that Radio Paradise plays a religious format. I don't think so. In fact, not even close. I've heard Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, RUSH --- all bands that were banned by my born-again Christian guitar teacher back in the 80s (which he refused to teach me) on Radio Paradise. Come to think of it, I did hear Chocolate Jesus by Tom Waits one day though... Radio Paradise gets 4.99 stars from me, and when I need to get something else that 0.01 of a time, I usually go SomaFM. read more

This is a great to have on during the day at work. I work in a pretty quiet office, with only the sound of my keyboard and perhaps my chair squeaking. Once in a while the attorney I work for deems to make an appearance, but even he likes the music. I really appreciate the wide variety of music with no commercials! Just today, a band I hadn't heard of, Darlingside, was on, and I was very excited to go to the band's web page and find out they'll be in San Francisco in November. I've already put the date on my calendar. I admit I was a KFOG listener until Dave Morey left. In fact, I wrote a review of them here on Yelp some years back. It was in a comment to my review of KFOG that someone mentioned Radio Paradise. I checked them out and and have been listening since. Recently KFOG underwent yet another iteration, this time seemingly trying to compete with Live 105. And although I do listen to KFOG occasionally when I'm driving (simply because I can't listen to RP), I very much enjoy RP during the day. RP plays a huge variety of music that even commercial radio doesn't play - Dead Can Dance for example. I'm a huge Dead Can Dance fan, and never, ever hear their music on the radio. I also really like hearing deep album cuts from some great musicians. Artists such as David Bowie, Joe Satriani, Counting Crows, Dire Straits. Plus they play a good sprinkling of older 60s and 70s music. If I want the latest news, I'll go on line and find that out. But mostly during the day I just want something enjoyable in the background. And Radio Paradise does that for me. read more

My favorite satellite radio station--The Loft--has gone online only, leading me to explore internet options. Wow! I had Radio Paradise off and on for the past four hours. Great variety-- it's looking more and more likely that I'll abandon satellite. I've had internet radio throughout the house for at least five or six years now, and due to corporate greed, it looks like satellite in the car is about to be history. No radio is perfect; there are naturally going to be some duds. Radio Paradise approaches perfection though, for my ears anyway. The tunes are incredibly eclectic; I recall hearing Ravel's Bolero followed by Smells Like Teen Spirit. Then there are the subtle themes that Bill & Rebecca, the human DJs slip in, such as playing The Doors' Light My Fire after MC 900 Foot Jesus' While the City Sleeps (which is a hip-hop song from the perspective of an arsonist). Another recent string of songs: Riot Radio, Radio Clash, Static on the Radio. See the pattern? In general, the music skews a bit towards eclectic adult tastes, but definitely strays from that by a good distance. Hip hop and hard rock is notably underrepresented. The music is programmed by human DJs, is commercial-free 24/7, and their site enables users to rate and discuss each song. The sound quality is great, listener interactivity is great, and RP has turned me on to countless artists I wouldn't have heard otherwise. Sometimes they'll get into a string of too mellow songs or OD on REM, but at that point, I just pull up WeFunk Radio, my other favorite internet radio station. read more

Excellent internet radio station run by a husband-wife team out of Paradise, CA. I like their programming - good mix of stuff you'll like the first time you hear it and stuff you'll love the fifth time you hear it. No commercials, just constant plugs for direct support from their listeners. Sometimes, especially during christian holidays, I get annoyed by the excessive number of songs they play that are subtly religious in nature, but I just tune them out for the duration. Radioparadise has been my favorite Internet radio station for many years now. I really like the mix of music. I have learned of many new to me artists, most who have been around forever, but were clouded in obscurity as far as I was concerned. The interface is just nice - very intuitive and useful, whether on the smart phone or computer. One of my favorite features is the ability to preload and cache a few hours of music. I use this all the time when walking the dog. There is just nothing not to like! A real gem. Everytime people say "Pandora", I say "Radioparadise". read more

When I worked three jobs, this station got me through that -- it is wonderful for late night work and relaxation. I am a serious musician and have learned so much from this station. Intelligent Human programmers beat some algorithm every time. They remind me of WMMR in Phila, back in their prime in the early 70s. Been listening on and off for at least ten years, I owe a lot to RP, they have introduced me to many artists I would probably never have found any other way, because of the incredible diversity of genres and styles they program. Sure, every so often a song comes up you aren't thrilled about, so there's a skip button. You can save up to 8 (12?) hours on your phone for plane flights or to preload from Wifi and save your 4G data when out and about. Cool web forums to rate or comment on songs/artists, or see how other listeners reacted, lyrics are online too. Then there is Bill's voice, a classic laconic delivery that brings back the old underground radio vibe. But the music is delicious, from delicate folk to 90's alt to Steve Wilson/PT prog, but you won't hear much ED/rap/ hiphop, if that's your stuff. For anything rock or folk influenced that's a couple notches above most pop/top40 noise, but also not so deep-cuts obscure you wonder what someone is trying to prove, plus some iconic jazz and classical tunes, Radio Paradise is the best source I know of. read more
