On this particular evening, admission was "you decide" which I thought was a nice concept and I put several Euros into the collection box. The museum was established in 2003 and the permanent collection is based on 400 works that were ceded by the chairman of the foundation. There are also a number of temporary exhibits that tour. The building itself is a former 17th century military fortress and is part of the remaining old city walls that once surrounded all of Palma. It's a very interesting building in the way it incorporates the walls and at the same time allows patrons to take ramps up and down including to the roof level. Lots of Joan Miró but also Léger, Dali and a Mapplethorpe. A unique audio exhibit in the elevator, which is recorded sound. Of the elevator! In many cases, "contemporary art" goes right over my head. Not so much today at Es Baluard. Well worth your time to soak up some culture.

We booked a table for 5 people but had a friend wanted to join us at the last minute, it took a lot of convincing to get him into the table. When you first walk into the door, they lead you backstage to see where all the performers are getting ready for the show. It's my first time seeing a circus show backstage like that. They give you little snacks and drinks as they walk you through the tour. I remember they gave me a ticket, similar to the old school ones you get at the fair, then asked me to eat it at the end. Turned out it was made of potato chip. Very interesting!!!! Then once you get to the top level, everyone get a rose. At the table, they will slowly bring out all these small dishes and appetizers. There were so many, I couldn't remember everything but they were delicious and unique. After you are done with all of those small dishes, you will be move to the main room, downstairs have start having the main courses there while watching the show. I believe, the owner of Cirque de Soleil helped create this restaurant so the show here is pretty similar to Cirque de Soleil. The experience was epic, they have 2 stages, one for the acrobatic acts and one for the singers. The singers and dancers also will come around to all the tables. Everyone just got so into the show, they started to get up and dance. It's not a short dinner, plan to spend the whole evening here. The show didn't end until midnight. Then they have a night club there afterward so you can stay and have fun with the DJ.

As well as Roman & Arabian ceramics there are classical statues & artifacts. Upstairs are a series of largely empty chambers, including the one-time kitchen.

It's a nice walk along Palma's marina with a few coffee shops and bars along the way and then begins the 100 meter ascent through a few streets and an "interesting" alley that made getting to the castle an earned event. The castle itself was built in the 14th century and was the original residence of the kings of Majorca. It was also a military prison for a long time. It survived two attempted sieges (one in 1343 and another in 1391), only falling once into enemy hands in 1521. It is quite the impressive structure and well worth the visit. From the heights of the castle, there are some great panoramic views of the port and the city of Palma. It is well worth making the effort to visit, whether you do it by food or by vehicle. There is a free parking lot.

Something happens as you start walking about, getting lost in the nonchalant paths that are at the same time deep labyrinths and simply logical: there is an inherent charm to these gardens that makes you want to stay and take your time. If you're used to botanic gardens, you'll find plants sorted according to the 'normal' categories: wet, dry, sunny, exotic, etc. Yet for once the distinction between each of them is done so sweetly that the garden moves away from being a simple catalog, to becoming a place where you're simply enjoying yourself. Other visitors seem to be on the same wavelength and everybody moves about as if in a dream. How long will it take you to realise that it's the same water trickling down from the top terrace to the one at the bottom? If it's springtime, how long can you resist before you stick your nose into one of those orange trees in full blossom? How guilty will you feel when you snatch that plump, ripe mandarin from that tree when nobody is watching, and want to cry when you compare with what you've been eating so far? The garden may be small, and far away, but spend an hour there and it feels like you've spent a week-end at someone's place who is going to be your friend forever. It's quite easy to find, specially if you took the old wooden train from Palma: right out of the station as you head towards the city square, turn left into the first street marked with a one-way sign, going against the traffic (Carrer d'Isabel II). Walk for five minutes until you get to the church then turn right into Cami de son Pons - a small street that soon joins up with a bigger road. Keep walking for three minutes and you'll find the garden on the right handside.
