302, 303, 306, 307, 316, and 317 Squadrons operated from RAF Kirton in Lindsey between 1940-1943.
Many Defiant and Spitfire Squadrons rested here for a short time during the Battle of Britain. Home to USAF, Polish and French air crews.
The airfield was home of Number 71 Squadron of the RAF's Fighter Command. 71 Squadron was composed of mostly Americans and was one of the Eagle Squadrons of American volunteers who fought in World War II prior to the American entry into the war.
The ghosts:
Phantom screams of pain are heard quite often and are thought to date from an air raid which killed many French pilots. One of these men has also been observed lurking by an old hanger. read more
