The Railway Hotel is a weird one. Reopened as a mildly hipsterised local watering hole it seems nearly there.
Unfortunately:
1. Prices seem pretty steep for the area.
2. The mild smell of germaline.
3. The decor isn't quite there; feels like a Berlin dive bar meets a Hornby convention.
4. The staff were really lax at the bar.
Now, the first 3 of these were really not the biggest deal breakers, but the 4th one was pretty heinous.
I stood at the bar while friends of the bar tender, pretty women and other random folks were all served ahead of me. Which was made even worse when I realised that the woman at the end of the bar was actually supposed to be working, and despite having made eye contact with me, when she reemerged into a useful state went to someone who just turned up. Thankfully he pointed to me so she could, begrudgingly, cease ignoring me.
My last big deal, and this is a common one in London, when your bar is only 2 metres long DON'T put 6 bar stools in front of it! I don't want to reach and shout over folk to be served. read more
