La Plaza Mall has grown, but for me it's less a place to shop and more a place to walk with air…read moreconditioning and observe with amazement and wonder the diverse crowd of humanity and also the evolved mall creatures with rainbow hair and pieces of metal sticking out of their tongues. Unless you're really into paying large amounts of money for the privilege of advertising for a company by wearing clothing covered with their logo (so others know you paid $800 for your sneakers), or cheap Chinese imported fad stuff, you may want to use the entrance that leads directly into the anchor store you want to shop. Thank God, there is still a JC Penny, Dillard's and Macy's and a few decent places to eat. Those who are more adventurous can enter the vortex that is the mall where there are other stores like Old Navy, Abercrombie & Fitch, Build a Bear Workshop, Torrid, Hot Topic, Sephora, Bath & Body, Victoria's (not so) Secret, Van's, Boot Jack, and a few chain jewelry stores like Zales, Kay, and Reed's. Naturally (or unnaturally) there is also a labyrinth of kiosks and other smaller stores all competing for your attention and money. You'll find people trying to spray you with fragrances, straighten or curl your hair, fit you with a hair piece, put some new glitter make-up on your face, or polish your shoes for free ...only to try to pressure you into buying their way over-priced shoe polishing kit or at least give them a big tip. Can you tell I'm not really into malls? I had not been in over a year. I was going to the bank, but discovered it doesn't open till 11 AM, so I could drive somewhere else or walk around for 25 minutes. I chose the latter as walking is good exercise. The Northside newer expansion of the mall has some good restaurants like Texas de Brazil and Yard House. Of course you can always go to the food court and eat a large pizza sized cookie or some kind of fast food while trying to pretend you don't mind the whining children and their parents who ignore them. Thankfully, when I went it was a weekday morning and not many mall creatures were out. The parking garage was mostly empty. But I saw enough that I know I do not want to return during the Christmas shopping season. If you happen to be a mall creature, I wish you well, and a long happy life. Please don't take it personal if I do a double take when I see you made up as an Anime character doll complete with special pupil-enhancing contact lenses, or sporting subdermal implanted Vulcan-style bumps or a third eye tattooed on your forehead. My reaction is involuntary and partly out of shock. I've never had a piercing except for my annual flu shot.

I have been visiting this mall for many years, and it's one of the best options in the valley area…read more It offers bigger and better stores compared to another mall I usually go to. This location is always very busy, so expect it to be congested, especially on weekends and holidays. One thing I wish they would change is the food pavilion. I would like to see them add something to prevent the chairs from making noise when people drag them.

GAP SCAM Customers…read moreof GAP Hereby I want to share a fraud they didto me GAP Baby store in La Plaza Mall inMcAllen Tx. On July 22, 2011 at 2:06 pm the "undermanager" of name"Roberto", the cashier with the employee number 2213362 which I thinkhis name is "Lazaro" as well as the manager of the shop Dee Silva. As events occurred: The day July 22nd, 2011 my wife, mydaughter, my father and I went to the Baby Gap store with the intention to buysome clothes for our daughter who had an advantage 40% off storewide at which Icarried $ 150 USD cash in my wallet. My wife and I proceeded to pick out clotheswhile my father took care of our daughter, I had a calculator in hand to makesure I didn't pick out more than the cash I had. Once we finished picking out the clothes we went to the cashier with the employee number 2213362 , he offered us a GAP credit card with which GAPwould automatically give us an additional 15% discount so we would have a 55%discount, the 40% discount that the store had plus 15% for getting the card. Obviously before we got the card my wifeon several occasions asked if there was any condition, any annuity to which theemployee answered "NO", and told me that I only had to presentofficial documents like Social Security number and ID and that it withinminutes they told us if I qualified or not, and if the answer was positive theywould give me an extra 15% discount. After 2 minutes we were indicated that we passed and the card would arrive in acouple of days or weeks to our home. At that time the under manager of nameRoberto came to hear what the cashier was telling us and interceded and toldhim that he was wrong and that they would give us the 15% discount until we hadour card in hand, but for this occasion as the cashier had offered us the extra15% discount he would honor the 40% discount plus 15%. (-55%) Seeing that they were going to respect this discount I felt it was very cheapso I told my wife to bring two items more so the final total was $ 77.84 USD to what I proceeded to take out my wallet to pay cash ,the cashier took the money and returned the change, he made me sign some papersa couple of times with the "pretext" to finish the credit card requirements. We left the store with two bags containing a total of 9 articles and as I sawthat I still had money left we went tosee other stores. Note: We have never obtained cards from other stores, we acquired the GAP cardon the pretext solely and exclusively to get the extra 15% discount that thecashier had offered us because I'm used to paying cash only. After a week we received our GAP card to our address and we didn't even open it,much less activate it, as my wife put it away in a file because we had nointention of future use. In late August my wife, my daughter and I came to visit our family to MexicoCity for a season, a couple of days after my father who lives with us inMcAllen Tx. gave me a call to inform me that he had received a call from theGAP store telling him we had a debt with them because we had purchased merchandisein the Baby Gap store with the cardwhich was absurd and impossible as the card is not only still stuck to thepaper in the envelope that we received therefore is neither signed noractivated, I told my father it wasimpossible because our card was still saved and the purchase we had done I paidit in cash, and the amount the recorder had did not match the billing amountthey gave me at the store which was of $ 77.84 USD. The debt in the recording machinethat came out was $ 195 USD. My dad continued to receive calls and told me thatwe should seek for the receipts because this "error" could damage mycredit. My wife reminded that she had received an email from the GAP store with areceipt the day we went to the store but she did not open it because we had thereceipt I got at the store, but when all of this happened I asked my wife tosearch for the email so she found the receipt that had been sent to her email address and alsofound the receipt that we got in the store and still had because shefortunately kept it in her wallet. We realized they were different quantities, the receipt that was sent to her email was $ 95.03 USD with 10 items theemployee number is 2213362, and the purchase time was at 2:09 pm while thepurchase time of the receipt I got at the store was at 2:06 pm the same day andhad 9 items. Realizing this "error" I proceededto call the phone number of corporate GAP because they were charging us a cardpenalty (even without being activated). I called from Mexico City to the corporate customer service number 614-744-3907and they told me that I actually had a charge because I had made a purchasewith my GAP card so I asked the operator how that could be possible if I didn't even activate the card and that the only timeI went to the store I paid in cash, besides that neither of both receipts I had ( from the store and email) were thesame and there was a difference of 3 minutes of time from one rece
