Frederick Hart sculptures, Robert Hagan, David Devary paintings. 2. "Nature" Gallery includes landscapes and water and trees and nature. 3. "Museum" Gallery includes museum quality images, museum quality artists, museum quality frames. Artists include Dali, Miro, Goldfinger. 4. "Abstract" Gallery includes vibrant and pure color with light bleeding out of the paintings. Favorite artist: Britten. Brilliant. I frequently have friends and clients who want me to help them choose art. They know I am an artist and that I am an art lover. I am always looking for great art, great artists, great galleries... and I have opinions. Josephine, the Gallery Director, welcomed me with a big smile and questions about what brings me to her gallery...? She runs the place so if you are lucky enough to be there when she is there, engage her in a conversation about art. RE #1: seeing the price people are willing to pay to watch the cowboyhatted Marlboro Man ride of into the sunset just boggles my mind. If you like that stuff, C. Anthony seems to have a great array. RE #2: quality oils, large canvases, beautiful images. RE #3: research this stuff before you buy it. "Dali" is a big name but at the end of his life he really sold out. He became a "signature" artist, much like a worn out football player who signs footballs to make money when he is retired. I understand that he would have someone else pull prints of his work, hundreds and hundreds of them, then he would sign his name, and it was like printing money. This is why it is not hard or expensive to now buy an "original" Dali. Many galleries rely on you not knowing this information. When I see a Dali in a gallery, one eyebrow always rises, uncontrollably. They also had an unsigned Renoir etching and it is very expensive, but ask the question, because the answer determines the value... "When was the etching pulled? Where? Did Renoir pull it? Was he alive when it was pulled?" Lots of people spend lots of money on this "Museum" stuff. Buyer beware. I did not have an opportunity to engage Josephine about these issues because she was welcoming a potential client. I am sure she has done some research. If you are considering the Museum gallery, ask... "Were these prints pulled by the artist?" The artist "Goldfinger" does to classical art and realism what Milli Vanilli did to music. RE #4: Currently featured artist Britten creates works that allow saturated color and light to bleed from the canvas. Her work is beautiful and powerful and lovely and needs to be appreciated and discovered by more people. If you are debating between a Britten or a Goldfinger, stop debating.

If you enjoy the mountains, sky, trees, and flowers, these paintings may be for you. I always looking for surprises and pieces that offer more than just a pretty picture. I covet just about everything in Thomas D. Mangelsen's Brekcenridge, CO gallery. Can't afford any…read moreof it, though. So, I keep an eye out for talented and cheaper photographers. Today I decided to head a little ways into the mountains to check out supposedly Victorian Georgetown just off I70. The historic district, while small, does have charm. It's worth the detour. After scoping out the shops I was immediately drawn to Grizzly Creek Gallery. To my surprise, the guy helping the people already in the shop was the owner/photographer Gary Haines. (Good luck running into Mangelsen at one of his galleries.) He's warm and friendly, has some great work and (best of all) he's got some reasonable prices. He's also a local. Support Colorado artists! After selecting a print it turned out he's also an expert framer. Ever been to Fast Frame? Wow, expensive! Even Hobby Lobby adds up quick. Gary framed the print in a gorgeous barn wood frame (he gets them from a friend in South Dakota) for less than Hobby Lobby's ordinary boring stuff. Thanks, Gary! I have come here during the winters and this little place is fun to come and check out! He has a sister shop in the Denver Airport, but this shop is so much warmer to the heart! If you come up here to ski during the winter or fly fish during the summer, this little shop is a must to put on your list! I have come here during the winter and have always found his photography was heart warming! There are a number of different images up for sale! They have different types of framing and you will just have to visit for yourself! They have a non-reflecting glass and different mattings. Insiders tip: they can also have your gifts shipped for you! The sales folks have always been kind here at this shop! Mr. Mangelsen started out as a wildlife biologist, with his great eye lead him to become such a great photographer! His strong knowledge of nature has really given him such a great advantage! He earned the honor of being named one of the 100 most people in photography by 'American Photo Magazine'! To note: If you're on a budget, still come in and pick up some of his art work on postcards!
