This is an attempt to make the place seem like a fast food establishment and garner as much profit as they can. It has a basic aesthetic with a self serve environment. Yet, the prices are about as high or higher as a restaurant with comfortable seating and a cultural emphasis on decor with full service. The food was tasty; filled with flavor and freshness. A free 16oz bottle of water was given with my order. Nan was delicious, korma nice and buttery, and the saag delicious with just the right amount of lamb. So they did a nice job with those flavors. Where they cut corners again was with the vegetable korma, filling it with mostly corn and peas. Very little to no cauliflower or carrots. The samosa's typically filled with potatoes and peas , these were just filled with mashed potatoes. So although flavors seemed there the ingredients were skimped. I had garlic Nan, veg korma, lamb saag, raita and samosa's. They give you rice. Total $56+ I ate in the restaurant. Portions average. Owner felt they were large, but they were average size. I had to get my own silverware and napkins, but I didn't have to clean up after myself or get my own to go boxes. So it's not a typical business plan dinning arrangement. I would not bring friends there and say "hey let's go out to this great Indian place, " and I'm not sure I would go there to grab a quick bite. I'm not sure where this place fits in for me. And you can't compare it to the portions of a Chinese take out because Chinese is much larger. I would much rather see this place become a full service restaurant then I wouldn't mind tipping and paying their prices. read more

This is a hole in the wall place. I say this in the best way. They are friendly and help us choose the right meal every time. We have not had a bad meal yet. You order at front, get your drink from the fountain and sit down. The food is brought to you. I love that this is family owned and ran. read more

I tried some vegetable biryani and cheese naan in a rare venture into the Indian food world. As far as I know, everything was good and still hot delivered. The rice had Indian spices and potatoes and peas. The spices were mild and the dish was like Indian fried rice. The $5 Naan was good enough. I grew in Seattle and enjoyed visiting Vancouver, CA to eat at authentic Indian restaurants with my family. Raj and Rani's tastes just like those amazing restaurants in Canada and takes me back to my childhood. The menu is extensive, the food was prepared in a timely manner, and the service was exceptional. The employee knew the menu very well and did a great job explaining the different choices. The food was delicious! The mild does taste more like medium spice level. Just a heads up, this is how it is in most Indian restaurants in Canada. I hope they decide to make it milder next time. The highlight of our visit was the case of Indian sweets! Priced well, very fresh, and the taste and texture were perfection! Just like the Indian sweet stores in Vancouver! We are so lucky to finally have this restaurant in our area! We have lived in Scottsdale for 15 years now and gave up on ever having fresh Indian sweets. First, a reminder how I do my reviews - stars are based on the place and what it's trying to be, not what they're not. So with that said, this is the perfect fast casual Indian restaurant. Obviously family- run, including the cutest 18-month old who will surely be clearing tables and starting to learn to cook in only a few years. But of course it's the food that counts, and I'll pit their food's taste and authenticity against any other I've been to in this country or England. There were four of us, not sharing totally, but much tasting all around. I had the Dal Tadka, which I ordered medium. Very honest spicing, so if you need mild, be sure to emphasize that. I might not order that again unless I was fully sharing with others. Too much beans for me as the only dish, as good as it was. I also tried the eggplant dish, Baingan Bharta. Very good and interesting smoky taste, and again, I think, best shared. My dining companions had chicken tikka masala and tandoori chicken. I'll take their word as very tasty, as I don't eat meat. I also had a poori bread, which was actually two to the order, unlike the usual one. Good, even if slightly too oily. Service was exceptional (well, we were the only ones there at 8 on on a Friday night). Also very friendly and accommodating, making for a relaxed time, even in a fast casual restaurant. Of course I'll be back and of course grabbed a takeout menu. Well worth it in todays elevated pricing. read more

Big big Indian food fan. I grew up in an Indian community over in Asia. The food just didn't taste as authentic as other Indian restaurants as I have had in the valley. Food tasted alright. Nothing to be wow about. I think this restaurant is more American Indian. I ordered butter chicken, chili chicken, and garlic naan. I would not suggest getting garlic naan. It look like those Costco naan with just garlic spread on it that's warmed up. read more

I visited Raj and Rani's Indian Kitchen today for lunch with my boyfriend and it was beyond good. I ordered the butter chicken, garlic naan, and mango lassi. My boyfriend ordered the chicken biryani. Everything was SO GOOD. The services was top notch with the man at the counter being friendly, attentive, and kind throughout the duration of our visit. He even brought out a complimentary yogurt sauce for my boyfriend to enjoy with his chicken biryani. I was so impressed by how clean, bright, and homey the restaurant was. Ate here for the first time tonight, though my family had been before. The restaurant seating is very orderly and, in my opinion, spacious. Ambiance is very chill. I really liked the Bollywood music playing in the background (but not so loud as to impede conversation which was helpful as I was with hard of hearing parents). When we went up to order, the man behind the counter was extremely helpful and engaging. He was open to questions and he answered them readily, as well as giving us suggestions. We ordered palak paneer (medium), lamb tindaloo (medium), lamb curry (mild), and fish tikka masala (medium). Each dish we ordered came with rice. We also ordered one garlic naan and one butter naan. For dessert, we got two orders of gulab jamun (4 pieces per order). LOVED the dishes!! I was more partial to the lamb tindaloo and I wish I ordered it hotter (I love to eat spicy things but was mindful of my family). Naan was delicious and good sizing. Our server (potentially the owner?) was so attentive, keeping track of our pace so that he could come by when we were low on rice and to time bringing out the dessert! All this while still taking orders and serving others alone. I was impressed. No photos because we were so hungry but the food looks good too!
