I moved to the area 10 months ago from Burlingame, where I had been getting hand tied extensions from the same stylist for 2.5 years... needless to say I was nervous to find someone new (& needed to quickly, since you can't go too long between appointments with extensions!). I tried one other salon, decided to keep shopping around and then found Rake on Yelp. I called and very easily made an appointment with Liv. The salon is SO CUTE. The decor is adorable and the location is perfect - lots of parking (!!), food, bars & boutiques nearby. Right when I sat down with Liv I knew I didn't need to shop around anymore. She was so sweet, loves extensions as much as I do and leaves you feeling like a million bucks! Our appointments always fly by because our conversation is genuine and fun. Every interaction I've had with anyone else at the salon -- from receptionist to owner -- has been lovely. They all say hello, jump into conversation when it's natural to and seem to be loved by each of their clients. Also, everyone's hair always looks great when they're walking out (most importantly)! Kaylin's beaded weft extension service on March 18th resulted in a poorly executed cut, hair breakage, and unusable $440 wefts. When the weft came undone shortly after, Kaylin defensively blamed me, despite confirmation from the extension company that her application method was incorrect. In spite of my request for reimbursement, Kaylin refused and couldn't provide a receipt for the hair purchase. Although the salon owner was sympathetic, they couldn't assist as Kaylin rents her station. While I was reimbursed for the installation, the cost of the damaged extensions remains unresolved. read more

This salon is simply amazing! I used to go to The Beauty Lounge and my hair girl cancelled on me last minute for the 3rd time the day before my vacation, I was heart broken! I called Rake and told the receptionist I was desperate to get my hair done before my vacation the next day and she told me she would take my number and ask all of her stylists if they could fit me in. Not even 30 mins later I got a call back saying Kristi could fit me in. Oh my goodness, Kristi was a delight! She had me in & out with a full head of highlights and hair cut in 2 hours. Alivia is the BEST!! She leaves me speechless when she's done. She has done the best color and highlights I've ever had and I've dyed it a lot. Shannon highlighted my hair, the texture to my hair changed.. I waited two weeks for a consult on how to care for my hair.. She told me my hair always looked like that. WHAT?. I had colored my hair auburn once 3 years prior. It was tremendously faded.. My original color had been grown out to my ears. I'm very easygoing with my hair. And have cut it myself for years.. I'm pretty simple.. And have never needed to use hair products, nor do I like them. Especially hairspray and finishing styling stuff. She did an amazing job coloring my hair.. My hair was very healthy and has natural c curls .. my hair frizzed out like velcro because it was so dry... we spent forty-five minutes of telling me my goals were unrealistic and played dumb to the texture.. All I wanted was my hair too calm down and lay flat, like it used to without using heat..I'm used to putting my hair in a bun, and when it dries, it's perfect. She also said that would never be again since I processed my hair. she remembered my hair being black and that we had really processed it to lift it, and it looked really good for going through. I have never had my hair black.. So she also has me confused with somebody else.. I really didn't need to be in her chair for that long to not be acknowledged... She had put oil on my hair as we were talking.. And said my hair felt fine.. But if I needed moisture in my hair leave my regular conditioner in for the day. Or use a leave conditioner or oil.. That was nice.. I got home and took my hair out of a bun. And it looked so good The oil she used made a difference.. I texted her thank her later that day for her time and sent her a photo for her to see my hair was capable of going back to how it was .. A few days later, she told me she canceled my october appointment because we were not a good fit.. In the meantime I have conditioned my hair multiple ways.. Leaving conditioner k pack over night.. Moroccan oil.. And my hair is beautiful.. It's frustrating she wasn't forthcoming on how to care for my hair. Didnt acknowledge the texture issue until the end of our appointment.. I was the nicest i could be especially with a difficult conversation that had false statements. I would only acknowledge things on subject which was the texture of my hair.. And she continuously said she didn't understand. One of the responsibilities of being a hairstylist is helping you care for your hair not just cut it.. I definitely agree.We are not a good fit.. If someone who does hair cannot have this kind of conversation ( and their one of the owners).. I have to leave a one star.. I also felt this could have been resolved a lot sooner than waiting two weeks for an appointment.. In addition, she cut my hair and layered the bottom a bit.. My hair was down to my elbows very long.. My c curls loved the layering, and my ends flipped, outward away from my back.. I needed to have an undercut in order for my hair to have curled towards my back.. She doesn't know how to cut curly hair.. solution I just cut the ends off i have enough to spare, and I was fine.. And it was really no big deal.but it really bothered her.. She kept saying, "Oh, look at your hair.. I wouldn't acknowledge that either. I just stayed on subject. Nor would I let my hair be cut.. I want to wait until my hair, calm down.. Be careful if you're unhappy she will 86 you. I apologize for being so choppy.. I never leave reviews, and this is taking forever.. But I have to say something. This is something that happened to me and I didn't have a problem. I just needed to be educated on how to manage my hair.. This did not have to be this big of a deal.. I LOVE this place! I've seen Jordan a while now and absolutely ADORE her! She is incredibly fun to talk to and she takes her time to make sure your hair looks perfect. I get blonde highlights and I love how I look every time I go see her. She's truly magical and I've already sent a few people to her and the salon. The ONLY downside is they are kind of difficult to get ahold of so you need patience but they are working on it. I promise, however, it's worth the wait. I have been to so many different cities for hair and she is by far one of my favorites! They also offer beverages while you're there and the salon is comfortable and beautiful. I was super excited tOo gOo here .. unfortunately, I was never able to get my hair done.. Kaylin was suppose to dye my hair for my birthday vacation.. I met her for a consultation in November and we decided on what we wanted tOo dOo.. she was nice and went over all my options.. I made my appointment for services and she canceled on me.. we rescheduled and she canceled on me again just days before my trip.. when I tried to reach her she ghosted me.. no reply, no communication, no nothing.. 2 stars because Carisa whom I wanted to originally make an appointment with was very nice, friendly despite her being booked. She then recommended me to her colleague Jordan who I still have yet to hear back from 6 days and two phone calls of checking in later. It's one thing to be busy but, if a POTENTIAL client is trying to schedule and you take their contact and promises to get back to them when you finish with a client on the chair, you get back to them if not that day at least 24 hours later at best. I called back two days later, she was off and who ever picked up the phone took my information and said she'd text Jordan to call me back and still nothing. Just annoying is all. Hoping your luck to get a booking with Carisa was much more better than mine, her reviews are great and she's very nice when I talked to her. Too bad for Jordan for loosing me as a client and for this elite review I've written along with my network of friends whom I'll be happy to share their disregard for customer service and not caring much for new clients. read more

Liv is the best! I have been seeing her for about a year now. I had been struggling to find a hair stylist that was passionate and knowledgeable about hair. I had a bad experience at another salon and my hair ended up turning an orange color. I explained to Liv that I wanted to be blonde and have all the orange brassy tones removed. She has helped me become blonde safely and has made my hair so much healthier than it was when I first met her. I have never been disappointed with any of our sessions and I am always happy with the result. My hair is now blonde and I couldn't be happier with it. Liv is very thoughtful and caring during each visit. I like how she takes her time to make sure everything is perfect. I always feel super awkward going into nice salons because I'm not very girly and I feel out of place... Shirley gave me a wonderful haircut, she made me feel comfortable. She took the time to wash my hair, fully dry it, and on top of that she straightened it... none of that may seem abnormal but I have a lot of hair, it takes forever to dry... and it's a pain in the assssh to straighten. The ambiance in the salon is wonderful, the hair washing stations are so comfortable I could have taken a nap in it. Also they have some pretty great products, Shirley let me know what she was using but I didn't feel like like she was hardcore trying to sell me some, which was nice. Also the owner, I forgot her name, was so kind, I was looking at some of the hair products and she brought me some samples to try out before I invested in entire bottles. Really wanted to cut my hair since I had grown it out during the pandemic. I was also facing some hair challenges with some thinning in some places and just wasn't happy with how my hair was (hair loss from stress, dry, brittle and lots of breakage). I looked at a few of the reviews for local salons and found Rake. There were others that had high ratings but some concerning customer encounters so I skipped on those places. I called on a Tuesday to check for a Wednesday opening and I was able to get an appt with Kristi. She was super sweet and accommodating and really had the patience to hear my hair concerns and what I wanted. She ended up getting me in a chair and out with a fresh cut in less than 40mins. I'll definitely be coming back! The staff is very nice, the location is downtown (I did get stuck in some traffic trying to get out) but parking was fine and the salon has a super cute, chic vibe inside.
