I am so sick of Raleys in Turlock. They keep trying to make it look attractive. The store has been redone and it looks a lot better. That being said, employees are rude. If you go to self checkout and you want to use your warrior discount, no one's around to apply it. Very inconvenient. Food is not fresh. The butcher is rude. [Review #643] 2021 Yelp 100 Challenge (64/100) I was visiting my aunt to celebrate her 91st birthday over Independence Day holiday weekend, & my cousin (her daughter) invited us to her place for BBQ on 07/04. They were also having their 2nd annual ribs competition so I needed to pick-up ribs & stuff to participate. O_o Luckily, I have an easy go-to brine that doesn't require much. I'm not too familiar with Turlock & there were a couple of grocery stores near her place, & choose Raley's (also recommended by my cousin). It was a pretty large market with a sizable parking lot. There were plenty of shopping carts lined up by the entrance but no sanitizing wipes, then I found some inside the market. :-) Either the customers are conscientious about returning the shopping carts to their collection points or the Raley's staff are on the ball for gathering the carts...because there were no stray carts, which means I don't have to worry about my car getting dented. :-O It was a huge relief being inside because it was hot, hot, hot in Turlock. Whew! The market is pretty well-stocked & organized, but I'm not used to it so it took me awhile to find the ingredients that I needed. Spareribs were on sale (yippee!!) as well as corn on a cob (5 for $1.00), & a few more ingredients for the brine: apple cider vinegar & bay leaves; my cousin had the rest of the spices so I didn't have to break the bank. The prices are mostly comparable to my local markets with some of our usual staples fared higher here. I liked that their produce looks fresh & are unbruised, & I don't see flies hovering over them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Our cashier was friendly & welcoming... she asked if we were going to watch the fireworks or if my kids will play with them (nope, they're still too little). I replied that I'm visiting so wasn't aware of any fireworks (it's banned in our area). I packed up everything, checked the receipt (got all the sale discounts but still a small chunk of my wallet), & was off. My ribs grilled without a hitch, though I didn't have enough time to brine it (only 12 hours instead of 24), & managed to tie for 2nd. Whoohoo!! =) Thanks Raley's for the quality meat & friendly service! If we're ever in the area, we'll definitely look for you to fulfill our grocery needs! read more

I bought a four pac of "pumpkin" muffins, they may have been mis marked or baker was impaired as they in no way resembled pumpkin, tasted like pumpkin or looked like pumpkin, hard to see color til at home. Very disappointed with this year's Thanksgiving Meal. I order it every year. This year I think they forgot to add certain items. I only got the turkey breast , gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans. I love going to Raley's for the delicious sandwiches, sushi and deli. This morning's visit was so uncomfortable. A man named Loi made our sandwiches and was completely rude to his coworker Fiona. He was snapping on her in front of us and other customers. He told me and my cousin that we were driving him crazy. So we tried to make light of the situation. We laughed and he started to go off about how his coworker doesn't do anything and then yelled at Fiona across the store. He then started to slam things and be more rude. I could only guess how uncomfortable the coworker Fiona must feel just by how uncomfortable it made me and my cousin feel. This was extremely unprofessional and I hope my next visit is not the same. Great grocery store for selling bulk foods such as the wheat bran I just purchased today. Had been seeking some super low carb high in nutritional value wheat bran at come competitive stores and didn't locate any when my mother told me several years ago she shopped at Raley's in their bulk foods area and located some. They have a decent selection of bulk food such as flax seeds, whole wheat flour, Bulger etc. The wheat bran I purchased today was less than a pound and sold for .99 cents per pound. What a value. The store is neatly organized and both times I've been here I've been greatee politely by cashier's and assisted. There's also a Redbox kiosk inside by the front doors which we used today to return a movie. Very convenient. read more

Half the time we come here, this store is out of half of what we need. My daughter recently tried shopping and they had NO chicken. Literally, they were completely out of chicken and said they'd get some in later that day. Another thing that's irritating as hell is the fact that they use one live cashier regardless of how many people are in line, so your options are to wait in a long ass line or use self check out. If you have a lot of items, that is NOT convenient, especially since you can't remove items from their tiny little bagging area without the machine flagging you to stop, like you're stealing them. They have a person standing there helping you use the self checkout registers, but I think it'd be more helpful to put that person on a good old fashioned register and open another line. Sorry, this place has gone downhill. I understand that we are in a pandemic, but prices are high; however, food is not fresh, and customer service has gone down. I will say that Judy in the pharmacy and the lady that works self check are still super friendly! The pharmacy has slashed their hours. They close for lunch and if they leave late, the open up back late. Also, the pharmacy does not open until 10am. They have an automated calling service and call when there is not prescription. The meat department is horrible. I received food that was rotten, but looked okay. The smell was just horrible. There is no place to return items when there is an issue. I have shopped at other Raley's and I am jealous! I do not mind paying more for more, but at this Raley's you pay a lot and might as well shop at the Walmart. read more

I'm reading through these comments and I am little shocked at some of the negativity . I used to shop the Raley's on Oakdale in Modesto in the late 70's 80'sand 90's. I loved that store. Then I moved to PG and shopped the Nobhill in Monterey, before it sold. That was a disappointing store especially for its location. It's great to shop and fill prescriptions at the store in Turlock, even during COVID-19 Turlock is well stocked organized and supplying the needs of our community. A big thank you to the Store Director Mike, I often see him on the floor with his employees, helping customers and giving a friendly hello to people he knows. My home is centrally located I can shop Turlock, Modesto or Oakdale stores. I choose Turlock because of the customer care of all the cashier's baggers and produce employees, as they are all always making friendly eye contact and ready to stop what they are doing to lend a helping hand as needed. I love our Turlock store. Thank you Raley's for supporting our community and our families, thank you Turlock Store I really think you are the best around. This morning I experienced a horrible incident...a cupcaketastrophe. Yes it's true. I made 4 dozen red velvet cupcakes last night for a "12 Days of Christmas" event at work today. Unfortunately there was a mishap and the cupcakes fell victim to a tip over accident. It was not pretty. There was not enough time to return home and make more cupcakes before the beginning of the event. I called a local bakery to see if they could make more cupcakes for me. Even though their cupcakes are tasty, the cost of 4 dozen cupcakes was quite a bit more than I wanted to spend. A coworker informed me that Raley's bakery makes red velvet cupcakes that are pretty good. I picked up the phone and dialed the number for Raley's as quick as I could. When I asked if they could help me, they assured me it was no problem. Raley's to the rescue! I picked up the cupcakes with plenty of time to set up for the event before everyone began showing up. Thank goodness for the helpful bakery employees at Raley's! If I lived in Turlock I would definitely shop here. read more

I often go to Raley's because they have Peet's coffee, especially when I'm having a migraine. The location of Raley's was interesting, as I turned a bit early, and ended up in front of In-Shape--or whatever gym--was it a hint? The two strip malls have access to each other, which is convenient, and more speed bumps than some small cities. The Peet's area was at the edge of the Bakery and Deli, and had its own coffee person. Was she a barista? Perhaps, or maybe, she was something better. (She did not ask my name just to mess it up on the cup!) She was friendly and ready to serve, asking me what I wanted before she finished with the current drink order. I ordered a Caramel Javiva, which is the first I've seen at Raley's. They've been at Peet's for weeks but the other Raley's seem to have Freddo still. (I'm still under the impression that the name Javiva is coffee that was spilled and wiped up with a paper towel--Java, Viva.) She got it right, and kept up a pleasant conversation, and made an excellent drink. read more

The thing I like about this store is that they carry a wide variety of brands and items, many I cannot find in other stores. I like their meats and produce better than other stores as well. I've heard many say their prices are high, however for the items I buy it is about 5 dollars a week. I have been shopping at the Raley's on Geer for about 20 years and each shopping experience has been great. Their shelfs are always stocked with the prices clearly marked, their produce is always wonderful and varied, the deli is chock-full of fantastic food, they make great sandwiches, and, most important, their customer service is excellent. Iv'e been coming to this Raleys for years. Yesterday I got a $10 sushi roll and the rice was hard in it. My daughter had the "footballs" inari sushi and her rice wasn't hard. My youngest had the lunch bag with a turkey sandwich, a bag of goldfish, apples with caramel sauce, and apple juice. Not sure why her sandwich had fake cheese in it. If you make it in the deli why can't you make it with real cheese especially if it's for a child. I also got the chicken alfredo with broccoli for my Mom and it was really yummy. So I guess it's just a hit and miss in the deli here, now. I'll definitely be back but will be more careful in to what I purchase at the deli. read more

This store used to be my favorite but has slowly gone bad. The store itself is still nice. Products still good. But the employees are beyond lazy. If you go early morning or later evenings, which are my only times i can go, you'll be forced to use self checkout while employees just stands there and talk to each other. Majority of people hate self checkout when buying larger quantities of items. We should at least get a discount on the purchase if we're being forced to do theirs jobs for them. Using the pandemic as an excuse is bogus. Just because there aren't as many employees out there doesn't mean that the ones still working get to slack off full time. And if you see someone looking kinda lost, ask them if they need help finding anything. We don't work there and know where you keep everything. For now I'll switch to the older Savemart, the store isn't as nice but they still have workers that actually work. read more

The manager of the produce department has a bad attitude. I have overheard him bad mouthing fellow employees in the past. Today he came up to help with check out as there were long lines. I was in line with my small hand basket of five items and was next in line behind a rather large cart with lots of coupons. He took the female customer behind me when he opened his lane, and I waited another 5 minutes while he served two people with more items than me. Very disappointed. He's been there forever and his entire demeanor indicates he is just punching his time card. Does not care about the customers. read more

A great place to grab groceries. Ive been able to find a lot of organic fruit here. Oranges, strawberries, and grapefruit. Not the cheapest place to get groceries, but the quality of food is good. Service is usually very fast, they will bag your groceries and you don't have to put the on the counter either. read more

I want to thank the sweet, sweet Isabella at the e-Cart who took down a note for me to add to my order for my Gramgram. I also want to thank her for assisting with replacing the cake because the original one we ordered was out of stock. She took the time to show me the choices. She was very patient and just wonderful. This isn't the cheapest grocery store in the area, but undoubtedly the best. The fruits & vegetables are fresh & of excellent quality. The meat department has a fine selection of meats 0f top quality. Also, many times they have varied types of wild fish including Alaskan salmon, My only concern & it is not to nit pick, but every time they have a popular K Cup on sale for a good price it's shelf area is empty. Today, I wanted to purchase the Starbucks K Cup cocoa. Different employees told me where end displays would have them. After a "bag boy" & I walked around the store 3 times, someone said they were out. They finally gave me a "rain check." This is the 3rd time this has happened! Someone needs to know how to order items that are on sale. Our bill was over $400.00 (no kidding) but I have to go back in a day or two! read more

Whenever I think of Raley's I think of restrooms, and of the Richland Grocery Store that used to be on Yosemite and Claus, in Modesto. To get to the restroom at Richland you first had to ask where it was, then skulk through the doors that said "Employees Only", then walk past the box crusher that said "Warning - Serious injury or DEATH . . . ' in big letters on the side. I always wondered what a mother would do - a mother with a 3-year old daughter who had to go, "really bad", and an 8-year old son who would fight to his last breath before he would go into a Lady's room. Leave the son outside and pray he didn't wander over to the box crusher? Let the daughter wet herself? Avoid Richland forever, after one visit, and go to a grocery store that CARED about its customers? That Richland has folded. No wonder. Durn fools. In the Raley's store, by marked contrast, the restrooms are marked with letters three feet high on the wall above hallway. You go to them directly from the main part of the store. They are clean and pretty. My hypothetical 8-year old could amuse himself by playing with the drinking fountain just outside while his mother and sister did what they needed to; at worst, if he wandered off, he might mess up the paper back books, which isn't as bad as being crushed to death by a four-ton hydraulic ram. That is one example. There are dozens more. Raley's wants you to be happy. They care about you. On to what else I like. . . . Their wine selection is the best of any grocery store in the county save Safeway and O'Brians. The wine prices beat Food 4 Less, on selected items and selected weeks. Their deli will make incredible sandwiches, although the salmon isn't always available. Their meat and produce are superb. Their bakery is wonderful. I once had to buy 2/3rds of a loaf of potato rosemary bread. It was still warm when I picked it up. By the time I got to the check stand my son and I had eaten a third of the loaf, ripping chunks off with our hands and wishing we had a stick of butter. The prices are bit more than Foods 4 Less, overall, but their quality justifies it. You don't get onions with soft, smelly spots in them at Raley's. What makes me a steady, loyal customer are their people. Ask someone a question and you'll get a quick, accurate response. Samples: Where's the whole bean coffee? Here, let me show you. How do you use all that dill, if you buy an entire bunch? Mince it all and freeze what you don't use that night. (After I learned that,I found that one bunch of fresh dill will supply enough for three or four plates of salmon with lemon dill butter, a couple of dishes of carrots with dill and butter and two dishes of cucumber slices with yogurt and dill. Fresh is SOOO much better than dried . . . ) You seem to be out of the Teriaki salmon fillet? I can fix that. (This was at 7:30 am, when I popped by to get four pounds of fillet for a company potluck. This particular company had a Weber kettle, and three of us had pooled funds to get something a little better than KFC in a bucket. Their fish guy sold me a bottle of marinade, put four pounds of fillet in a big Styrofoam tray, emptied the marinade into it, wrapped it in enough stretch wrap to be impervious to anything short of a kangaroo wearing golf shoes, and said : "Here - keep it in the refrigerator, turn it over every 30-45 minutes until you put it on the grill ." I did. it was superb. What do you put in salsa? I'm not that much of a salsa guy, but hey - Roberto? (Roberto, who also worked produce, gave me the ingredients and general directions. I had guessed tomato and cilantro on my own. I asked Roberto to recommend a pepper that was less intense than the jalapeno; he did. He told me not to forget the garlic, something I would not have thought of on my own. My family still raves.) 98% of the quality of O'Brians, 80% of the cost and the people are just as helpful, if not better. read more
