I went to Dr. Alman to remove all 4 of my wisdom teeth, 3 of which had some kind of impaction and were making my lower teeth tight due to the pressure. The office is very clean and the equipment looks up-to-date and new. The staff was very friendly as well, including Dr. Alman. Since all of my wisdom teeth were still hidden inside my gums, I opted for general anesthesia because I really did not want to see cutting, blood, or sewing, but you can also choose local if your teeth are already protruding, which makes the procedure somewhat easier. After the surgery, I woke up, and was all wrapped up. I fully expected some kind of pain or discomfort after the procedure when the numbing subsided, from all of the horror stories I've heard about wisdom teeth removal, but I felt none. NONE at all. I thought maybe the numbing muted the pain, but I did not feel any pain at all even during the next several days after the surgery while I was resting at home. A couple of years later when my BF needed his wisdom teeth removed, I recommended him to Dr. Alman, and he also experienced zero discomfort after his procedure (he had local anesthesia). I found Dr. Alman on Yelp and am so glad I did. I had 3 wisdom teeth that I needed to get removed because I had already gotten one removed from another doctor. The 1 that I got removed from the other doctor was extremely painful so I was looking for a better experience. My situation was quite unique as I had my bottom right tooth growing sideways onto another tooth and it was near a major nerve. I had gone to 3 other doctors before and they all warned me that removing this wisdom tooth could have nerve damage which is why you need to go to a oral surgeon. Out of all the Doctors I went to, Dr Alman was the most confident that he could get the tooth out and told me what the risk was. By researching him he was also the most qualified to do it. After all he is a professor at a university as well! I trusted him and went along with it. Everything turned out great. All the 3 teeth removed by Dr Alman combined caused less pain then the 1 tooth the other doctor removed. I opted for General Anesthesia by the way. The pain I am referring to is for the following days after. I would definitely recommend Dr. Alman, He doesnt accept most insurance but his professionalism is worth every dollar. read more

I initially tried to search for an oral surgeon on my own through Yelp reviews and did a consultation with a highly rated one in DC, which was convenient to where I work/live. However, the cost estimate they gave me was astronomical and I also didn't feel like that particular doctor took the time to listen/address my concerns. He just tried to brush them away in a way that made me feel like he didn't take me seriously since he felt he was the expert. Thankfully, I reached out to my old dentist in Houston and she recommended Dr. Alman for my wisdom tooth removal. Everything went better than I had imagined. This was my first wisdom tooth removal so I was a bit nervous, but the procedure went off without any problems and I didn't feel a thing. Dr. Alman called to follow up and check on me after the procedure, which I really appreciated. He was also great about answering any my questions, which is obviously really important to me. As a 45 y.o. woman I was so nervous about having an emergency wisdom tooth pulled! When I was a youngster I refused to have my wisdom teeth out for my braces! Needless to say Dr. Allman is a miracle man. God bless his talents and his staffs. His staff was delightful, happy and genuinely caring. They put me to ease right away. Very disappointing experience with non-stop schedule changes with absolutely no care for our daughter's health. I went to Dr. Alman about 3 years ago to remove my wisdom teeth (not impacted) and all went well. So, when it came time to remove our 16 year old daughter's wisdom teeth, I again went to Dr. Alman, despite the fact that he does not take insurance. Dr. Alman suggested that we remove our daughter's wisdom teeth as soon as possible and we agreed that the Friday before Thanksgiving was a good time. He assured me he would be available the following week for follow-up. He also said that the appointment must be 1pm because he was "booked" that morning. I said great and we planned a 12:30 arrival. The night before the procedure we got a call to please come at 11:30am. Okay, no problem. Then, a few hours later we received a call that we MUST arrive at 10. At this point, my daughter had a test scheduled at school that morning, but we said fine and showed up at 10. After her procedure, my daughter was still slightly dizzy from the anesthesia but Dr. Alman and his staff told her she needed to leave. They rushed her out with an appointment for the following Wednesday at 8:30 am to remove her dressings. All was fine until Sunday. I received a call that Dr. Alman did not want to come to the office on Wednesday so she needed to come in Monday to get her dressings removed. We followed and he removed her dressings early and exposed her dry socket. This resulted in her fainting from the pain. We went back the next morning to get the dressings put back in and Dr. Alman told us to come back the next Monday 8am to have them removed again, after hopefully healing. Sunday night at 7:30, I received a call that Dr. Alman really doesn't want to come to the office before 8:30 so our daughter should not come a second earlier than 8:30. I called back and explained that she had school and this was too many changes. After an argument, Dr. Alman's secretary agreed he would come in 8:00 as a favor. I asked why they made the 8am appointment to begin with? There is more but I want to just give a few examples of our disappointing experience. I did call to tell him all this once our daughter was healed to give him an opportunity to remedy this experience but he didn't seem to care. read more

I am a Plastic surgeon with over 30 years of experience and when my only daughter required four of her wisdom teeth to be removed, my wife and I traveled to Rockville, Maryland to have her operated on by Dr. Ralph Alman Jr, an outstanding Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon, with whose skills I was already acquainted. Dr. Alman's office was centrally located with convenient parking in the same building. His office was impeccable and his staff was friendly and professional. They did everything to reduce our anxiety. Despite his professional stature and experience, Dr. Alman was attentive, calm and highly professional. Using advanced, state-of-the-art Cone Beam 3D CT Imaging, Dr. Alman was then able to further evaluate our daughter by visualizing her impacted molars from virtually every angle, see their relations to the inferior alveolar (mandible) nerves and plan a customized surgical approach based specifically on the specific anatomy of my daughter's molars. After clearly communicating his surgical plan to our family, Dr. Alman then painlessly operated on her and completed the procedure in approximately 40 minutes. After the surgery, she walked into the waiting room with a beaming ear-to-ear smile and barely any swelling. Dr. Alman's post-operative instructions were both clear and easy to follow. His attention and availability to my daughter in the post-surgery period was as outstanding as well. He personally checked with her the night of surgery. Although I expected to see much more swelling, my daughter suffered little to no swelling after this extensive surgery and had a rapid recovery. VERY impressive. As a surgeon, I am extremely impressed and pleased with Dr. Alman's skills and work. I could not be happier with choosing him to operate on my child and I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone considering Oral Surgery. read more

Judging a dentist is difficult. We tend to think the dentist is good if we "like" him/her and if the pain is minimal. Actually, it may take ten or so years to really know just how good he/she really is; however, building your confidence, coming with the BEST of qualified recommendations, having cutting edge equipment, controlling bleeding, making sure the patient is comfortable both physically and mentally, following up at every step of the way, etc., etc. are sure indicators that Dr. Alman is TOPS! A week ago, I had a mouth full of extractions, implants, and bone graphs. Amazingly, the swelling, bleeding and pain was minimal. He and his congenial staff continued to track my progress for the entire week following surgery. The professionalism was "spot on!" I would highly recommend this genuinely nice and most capable oral surgeon to my beloved family members and friends. Oh, did I mention: I have suffered all my life from dental/dentist phobia? If all medical practitioners were like Ralph Alman, it would be heaven. Sorry, it's the real world. Stop all research now and make an appointment with this guy. I've had pulls and implants from him for at least 25 years - five in total; three in the past six years. The improvement in technology and practices each time were noteworthy. Especially yesterday's upper molar implant implantation. He had a new pneumatic JACKHAMMER like tool that just blasted that thing up in there, and then he torqued and tightened it down with his Bob Villa Home Improvement tiny ratchet wrench set and all his might. For the first time ever, I went home (first by walking to White Flint Metro) without gauze, as there was minimal to no bleeding. All pain and discomfort were gone by the time my train arrived. There is no doubt I'd like to find a Ralph Alman for my medical care, but haven't. Finally, I don't care for reading Yelp reviews about medical stuff. I'm too squeamish in general on that score. I think it's just weird that I ran across Dr. Alman on Yelp as you can now find reviews of any service provider. He is too good for that. [What has this world come to that we so highly value "anonymous" online reviews?] However, I cannot let my admiration for this man's work and demeanor remain hidden -- it's just too overwhelming. He is just a genius, in my book, and I've known a few. I could be his relative, but I'm not - different gene pool. Go! Take his advices. read more
