Dell's population weighs in at 35 people and this place is bound to run any prospective migrants right out of town. The front part of the Merc glows with consignment charm, full of warm country decor and inspiring wall art. Amidst the cheery products are handwritten and typed warning signs threatening would-be shoppers with fire and brimstone in case of damage. The front door is adorned with a hastily scrawled sign declaring bathrooms for paying customers only, directing all others to waddle their swollen bladders to public rest stops 8-miles to the north and south. The single employee's eyes glow red, grunting directions, staring coldly, and wishing death upon the weary traveler who dares enter. No dogs, no parking, no touching, no loitering (like that's a problem in a town of 35), no spitting, no smiling, no singing, no hoping. I've now been to edge of despair and it is the Dell Merc.

The service is totally great; I dropped my credit card here and didn't realize it for two days, but there were no charges on it, and when I went back to see if they had it, they put me through the "what's your name, what type of card" and then happily handed it over. Epitome of a small-town gas experience, without the sky high prices.

Their fuel pumps are open when the main store opens. We fueled here July 12th and 13th, 2024. I didn't quite fill the tank on the 12th. We returned in daylight hours to top off - and step inside. Our nation is divided. Most people live in cities, obsessed with their tiny circles of life. They know nothing of rural life, making a living from the soil, the most Ancient hunting and fishing lifeways or guns for more than imagined threats generated by endless entertainment crime shows. This store is a VERY cool place. Mostly heavy duty, practical, useful items for work and wear. A total inventory for the outdoor people feeding and entertaining themselves hunting and fishing. Anyone can find useful items for work, wear or repair. The rural few need a little respect from the urban many. That's where food grows, that's where God lives. That's where it will take a very long time to create alternative machines that work and travel in country places.
