We rented the handicap accessible room. They don't even know what a shower chair is, let alone have one. So if you can't stand while showering, you are SOL. "Breakfast" was toast, bagels, cereal. No yogurt or fruit or anything else. The pool area has no towels and is apparently the smoking section of the hotel. read more

Let me start by saying, that even when I have a bed experience somewhere I never write or leave a bad review because nobody is perfect. BUT I would give this place zero stars if I were able to. We booked here on a road trip across the country, there was nothing but this hotel for about 100 miles, so we booked it because we needed a place to rest for the night. By the time we arrived it was about 7:30pm. The place is super old fashioned, which is just fine, but it smelled pretty dang bad in the lobby. We checked in and asked if we could change our room, since we no longer needed a suite. The lady at the desk was very kind and was able to switch us to a single king bedroom. We grab our key, she tells us to go out around the side of the building to access the staircase that lead us to our room. There's graffiti all over the SECURITY door that DOESN'T lock? We open the door and there's dead black crickets lining the staircase and I guess what you could call a foyer. Then we get to our room... There's a no smoking policy, but when we opened the door all we could smell was marijuana. We go to turn on the lights, and all but one of our small wall lamps don't turn on. Either the lights were all burnt out, or the outlets didn't work, I'm not sure which one. But regardless, we had no light in the room. We immediately check for bedbugs, as we do in any hotel we stay in, and there's no bed bugs but there's crumbs and hair in between the sheets.. so obviously they weren't washed. We then check the bathroom, there's what looks to be pubic hair on the floor of the bathroom and in the shower, dried soap on the sink, toothpaste splattered on the mirror, the toilet paper had not been changed and something red/orange that had spilled on the white tile. Gross. Then we decide to check the drawers and basically try to see if there's any other reason to believe the room had not been cleaned before we ask to change rooms. There was a half eaten bowl of raviolis left in the microwave from the previous tenant. Now we knew the room was not cleaned. My husband called the desk to let her know that we would like to change rooms, since ours was clearly not cleaned. The desk lady very sincerely apologized and found us another room down the hall. Well, we get to that room and it's even worse!!! The lights still don't work, the room is so dirty, the bathroom floors were much worse, there was a WAD of pubic hair and an razor cap clogging the bathtub drain, toothpaste globs on the sink, dirty mirrors, and to top it all off... fresh blood on one of the pillow cases and dried SEMEN on the blanket. So down to the front desk we go. We told the lady we need another room. She checked and said unfortunately no other rooms available for the night. So we said that someone needs to come clean our room, as we shouldn't have to pay $100 for a room in the condition that ours was in. She mentioned that she was the only one there that evening and that she could call someone to come in, but that wouldn't be until about midnight. We told her that we needed it to be done sooner since we aren't willing to stay up until midnight to have our room "cleaned" as we needed to get up by sunrise to get back on the road to our destination. She basically said there was nothing that she could do. So we asked for a ton of extra sheets for the beds, that way we at least knew that the surface we were sleeping on would be clean. She very gladly got those for us, we thanked her and went up to change the sheets. We change the sheets on the bed and forgot to grab clean blankets so we went down to grab those. She walked us to the closet where the keep the linens and said something along the lines of "it's a gamble on if they're clean or not." One blanket was OLDDDD, which is fine at the end of the day, it's a blanket that will keep me warm. The other blanket we got was covered in what looked to be cigarette burns. That sucked, but again, we just need to rest so we can get on the road early the next morning. My husband then goes to turn off the one working light in our room, accidentally TAPPED the lampshade with his finger, and BAM! The entire light fixture fell out of the wall and onto the nightstand in between the beds. At the point we were laughing because we could not believe that yet another thing went wrong at this place. We tried to put it back up, but given that the screw hole had been stripped to the size of a quarter prior to this, we gave up. When you stop at a hotel at midnight with your family, the last thing you expect to do is remake the bed you just paid for. That's exactly what happened to us last night at this Ramada. We started this debacle of a night's sleep by having to ask for the bedding for the pullout sofa bed for the kids. Not a major issue and if things had stopped there, I'd have given this place four stars. I know Ramada has dropped in stature, but to pull back the covers on the actual bed and find toddler sized crumbs and Skittles between the sheets is a level of ick I have not experienced since my Army days. I expected the ick back then. The night manager was gracious and appalled as well, but the morning crew was just apathetic. We were compensated $20 off the cost of our room for the inconvenience. The inconvenience did not stop at the bedding however. To top off this repulsive sundae, my 10-yr old had a sour tummy around 2 am, and was dry heaving in the bathroom. I stumbled in (we'd been given clean linens and an apology) and found an immediate need for the disinfectant wipes in my purse. Not because she was sick, but because the counter space looked akin to a science room table after a hasty clean up of sheep brains. I twitched on cue for the next few hours, either from the kids shuffling around or the constant certainty that the room was indeed going to kill us all. My throat was burning when I "woke up" and thankfully I was the only one bothered by whatever was in the AC unit. Despite my better senses, I used the shower. The con artist/maid was clever enough to have given the shower a wash (shocking) and the towels were in fact bleachy clean. Water pressure was constant, however, I had to use evasion maneuvers to survive the rapid fire temperature changes. Once the kids brushed their teeth we were out the door, and I argued venomously for coffee from the free breakfast. My husband was having nothing to do with it, his ire already out of safe zones. I went for it, and the teeny tiny cup of what might have been joe is long gone. I have 50+ good years left of traveling ahead of me, and I will NEVER spend another second of that time at a Ramada. read more

the minute we started to climb the stairs, the smell of pot was even sent. the entire 2nd floor hallway smelled so bad that it was almost burning our eyes. when we reached our room, the smell weakened , thankfully. the bathroom did not look like it was cleaned after the prior guest left. Eh, average stay for the price. HD tv with analog servjce and no guide so it was really difficult to find programming without surfing through all tHe channels. Phone didn't even though it was plugged in and every time tHe heat came on it blew the curtains open; we had to block them with luggage from opening. Stayed at this location for 3 months while working in the area. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They treat us like family. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Price is right and location is a big plus. Will continue to stay at this location when I'm in the area. read more

As a teenager, the Ramada was my first "real" employer. I worked fhere off and on for several years during high school and college, so I know the place pretty intimately. There's not a room I haven't cleaned in the whole joint. When my baby sister got married last year, we had her wedding shower in their conference room. Even though it took place many years after my time there, things were pretty much the same as ever. Although the Ramada isn't fancy, it's definitely a solid place to stay if you're in town or passing through. Although a lot of hotels in this class can be really hit or miss, Vandalia's Ramada is very clean. They frequently did tests where they would put a tiny mark on the corner of the tucked in sheets in random rooms to make sure housekeepers were changing the sheets. Although I would have changed the sheets anyway, those random tests gave less ethical girls a reason to do their job properly. It's also convenient that the Ponderosa and Taco Bell are right next door, although I don't recommend the Ponderosa as strongly as I used to. The food has changed somehow, and I haven't been nearly as happy with my experiences there in the last few years. There's a Holiday Inn Express right down the road which is usually priced at about double the rate of the Ramada. If an indoor pool is a necessity for you, it's worth paying the extra for the Holiday Inn Express. If you don't want an indoor poor, or you're fine with an outdoor one, save your money and go to the Ramada instead. There's little to no difference in quality. read more

I would give it 2.5 stars as it is a bit pricey for the areas they skimp on. The remodeling is coming along, so our room appeared clean and halls have a faint, fresh paint smell in the air. It could be lower in price to make up for a few things such as: You will hear the other patrons in the room above you as they walk around casually. It was so loud -that it woke us up at 5a.m. The floor squeaks something terrible! It is a better priced by about $20 lower verses other hotels in this area, such as the Holiday Inn. The Ramada staff here is kind and attentive. (unlike the Holiday Inn up the road some we attempted first.) This Ramada also has a very strong WiFi signal. YAY!! A password isn't required, (nice!) making it very easy and simple to connect onto. Several signals show up, so lots of routers here! Their WiFi is significantly better than the previous hotels I stayed at earlier this summer. A free continental breakfast is offered. Though like most hotel breakfasts now-a-days, it is only worth "missing!" The watered down coffee, generic white bread and bagels that fall into pieces in the toaster- makes it not worth waking up for. read more

Checked in on Sunday for a business trip. Seemed decent from the outside. Rooms where spacious. Blankets and pillows sucked a** . The lights didn't work besides the one by the door, bathroom, and desk. The lights (even tho they didn't work) where old. Fridge and freezer didn't get that cold. Microwave took for ever to heat something to eat. Not really any outlets in the room. TV was blurry. The room just sucked, just was a place to sleep for the week. Guess they don't really care since the town has nothing to do either. Not sure if I would stay here again. read more

Very nice hotel! Clean, big rooms, new carpets great pillows! Breakfast bar nicely stocked in mornings. I stayed hear for a week and I'll be back if I'm in this area again. Very nice staff. Onsite mini shop if you'd like a milk before bed. Again really nice hotel. read more

Pros: Huge room. One of the biggest I've been in before. Pull out couch. Everything worked fine. Breakfast was fine. Wifi is fast. Cons: The smell is overwhelming in the hallways and stairwell but not in the room, thankfully. It smells like old and mold, it's awful. read more

I spoke with the front desk and he said the owners of the refuse to take care of the large metal bar sticking off the bed frame. I cut myself walking into it. Had its ups n down. Nice n clean and fairly priced. Worst part would have to be the manager. Feel sorry for the employees. She I believe Mikie cused her a staff member for supposably stealing but only after I watched her go to 4 different rooms and pocket the tips just to yell at the other room cleaners to take care of the rooms. I can only imagine how many times shes done it. I made sure to gve my tip directly to my room cleaner. I also asked for some extra towels and all he wanted to do was cuss the staff, and im talking loud and publicly, for not doing theyre job but she was the one not listening. I wanted extra. Very clean room. Looks to have new carpeting. Does need electrical outlets by the bed to charge phones and tablets, only one plug on desk lamp to charge one phone. Had to use bathroom plug to charge another. Most people like to have their phones next to them in case of emergency calls. read more

Wish I could select stars in the minus area. I have never been spoken to in such a hostile and rude manner by anyone in my life as the Indian woman owner/manager at this hotel. Ramada should be ashamed that they have someone as rude as her in charge. Hostile is a better word.
