Ramen Bar Ichi continues to be our first choice over the years when we're in the area. The noodles, flavor of the broth, and condiment and garnish pairings are all cooked to perfection. The broth is rich but not overpowering. Tonkotsu is our go-to when we try new ramen places because it's a classic that gives us a first impression of the ramen place. I typically like to try out miso too, but the Tonkotsu here is so good that I don't feel like I need to think about other options!
Good menu, okay food. Service and atmosphere: The restaurant is nicely decorated inside. They offer good number seating options. Service was friendly and timely. Could have been more attentive. Food and drinks: I liked that the menu had few options which usually suggest that the kitchen concentrates on what they know best. The many had typical dishes expected at ramen spot. The flavours lucked a bit comparing to other ramen restaurants we visited. My ramen salad (no broth option) was nicely presented. The noodle was on a firm side. Other ramen soups needed more flavours. You can order alcoholic beverages here. Pricing: $$ definitely affordable and not overpriced for what was served.
Came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch by myself. Service was quick. I was sat at the bar. Plenty of tables and some booth seating. It was relatively busy. Got the tonkatsu ramen. Broth was creamy- wasn't as salty as i expected. Noodles were chewy and tasty. Didn't transport me back to the ramen I had in Japan though but I enjoyed it. Calamari with ponzu sauce was good- crispy. Kaarage was just ok. Overall experience was pretty decent for what it is and where it is. Next time I'll try the rice bowls.
Nut allergy friendly: I've never had issues with anything here. One of the best ramen spots in Houston, though I feel like their broth got more oily over the years. They have lovely takoyaki options. Service is always quick and efficient with food coming out in minutes. I'm partial to their Tonkatsu or spicy tonkatsu.
I am not usually picky about food quality if it's a food I like, meaning I've never met a ramen I didn't like until trying this restaurant. The Tonkatsu broth was watery and relatively tasteless, contrasting the rich flavor I'm used to. It felt like I was eating ramen that was run through a dishwasher. The gyoza was also spongey and questionable. I'm deeply disappointed with the food here, especially since I saw an Instagram reel touting that it's one of the best ramen spots in Houston. Giving 2 stars opposed to 1 because the waitress/management was kind enough to not make us pay for the ramen we barely ate.
There's plenty of parking in the plaza though it can get filled up during busy hours. I came right when it opened on a weekend and it wasn't busy until later. There were plenty of tables inside and the ambiance was nice. Service was quick as the food came out fast! We got the Spicy Tonkotsu ramen and Tonkotsu ramen . The spicy tonkotsu ramen was spicy but it's the type of spice that gradually grows while eating. The broth for both was rich and the noodles were tasty as they were thin noodles. As for the egg, it was gooey and had a sweet taste to it! Overall, the ramen was good!
So.... I've been here a couple of times. Food is pretty decent. They had this crunchy cabbage dish in the past but it wasn't there today. Service is OKAY too. For some reason my family of 4 got styrofoam cups verses everyone else standard thick plastic cups. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ idk.... Ramen was ok. My little girl enjoyed it. Wife got the Mentai Takana bowl which was the same size as the mini bowls but cost more. I got the pork chashu bowl (which is a mini bowl) and the unagi bowl (which isn't a mini bowl but came in a mini bowl). The karage was over cooked and a little tough. The wife also got the takoyami but I didn't hear any complaints from her about it (not my thing). Dishes came out pretty but ultimately.... It was ok. Most likely won't be coming back here for a while. It's a cute little date spot if you want to flex to uninformed. Honestly, I find myself spending more money at Seiwa Market next door. Once their kitchen gets back to what they were in the past, I would find myself hard pressed coming back to Ramen Bar Chi. 2.5 stars if I could give it. Didn't hate it but I didn't love it. Kinda feel a little ripped off about bowls. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it is what it is.
My friends and I decided to stop by here for an early dinner based on the high reviews. The restaurant is small and the decors is nice. We ordered 2 bowls of spicy tonkatsu with egg, a regular bowl of tonkatsu, takoyaki, and 2 orders of calamari. Ramen - the ramen noodle was cooked perfectly not mushy or hard. The spice on the spicy tonkatsu was strong and you cannot taste the tonkatsu broth compared to the tonkatsu without spice. Eggs do not come with the bowl of ramen so it is an additional add on but the egg was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The chashu was a little chewy and doesn't melt in your mouth, my friend thought his chashu smelt and tasted strongly of pork (almost like not clean pork). Calamari - they give you a large portion and I enjoyed the little salad that's included with the item. It comes with an "Asian sauce" which I am not a huge fan of. I wished it came with a creamy sauce like spicy mayo. The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza so there was plenty of parking.
For me this is the example of doing all the basics near perfectly. It's a cozy restaurant space that feels kinda like it's in the city, but you're in the 'burbs (so there's parking). Brought a larger group size and we were managed to be sat immediately, almost like they made space out of no where. Service was quick and straightforward, and nobody got an order incorrect. The menu consists of about half a dozen types of soups and a few extra ways to customize your bowl. There's a separate menu for appetizers that has a good selection of takoyaki and karaage; mostly just different ways to top them. Also a pretty good selection of sakes, beers, and cocktails to make it a liquid lunch/dinner. The ramen itself is executed exactly how I'd want. Tons of soups fillings with lots of noodles and probably the biggest serving of pork chashu that I've gotten at any ramen spot. The bamboo was prepared better than I've ever had, with plenty of it served; I didn't know that it could be not rubbery. Soup broth was unctuous but not overly heavy, I cleaned the whole bowl. The portions being this generous and the taste being this good made this a 5 for me.
Drove 30 minutes to this place after hearing all over Reddit that this was the best ramen shop Houston had to offer. Was sadly a bit of a letdown. Showed up right around opening and it was just us there. That was fine. We opted to sit in a booth close to the kitchen. Ambiance looks like a pretty casual ramen shop. Server was friendly. We ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, Pollo Loco Ramen, and Takoyaki (I believe it was Osaka style). - Takoyaki: This was pretty standard. Not bad, but also not anything to write home about. - Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen: Pretty disappointed with this one. Although there was some decent spice, I found the broth to be pretty watery. For a tonkotsu ramen, I expected a super hearty/creamy broth, but didn't really get any of that. The char siu and other toppings were fine, but I also found the noodles weren't as bouncy as I was hoping. Maybe a little overcooked? Or just the noodles itself weren't very good. - Pollo Loco Ramen: Don't usually got a chicken-based ramen so this was definitely unique. However, I think this suffered the same issues of the tonkotsu of being a bit too watery when I don't think it should've been. I'm all for lighter broths (i.e. shoyu), but this didn't really connect. The ground meat and noodles also didn't particularly grab onto the broth. One other thing I would like to mention was a little after the takoyaki came we started smelling something weird closer to the kitchen/bathroom. Smelled almost like cleaning solution? We figured maybe it'd eventually pass, but it never really did and we definitely had a bit of a headache by the end. YMMV, but just something I personally experienced. Overall, it was definitely not worth the journey or the hype. If you're closer to this location and want ramen, I can see this working in a pinch, but I have a hard time recommending this one.
I've been wanting to try this restaurant out for the longest time but I rarely ever on this side of town. And plus, with the whole COVID-19 going on, I didn't really care too much to write reviews for pick-up orders. Well, my sister and her boyfriend happened to be visiting this restaurant and she was nice enough to text me and ask me if I wanted anything from here. I told her that I wanted to try The Tonkotsu Ramen and to also order me an extra order of egg (I thought it came with at least one - I was wrong), corn, and kaedama (extra ramen noodle). My sister was going to be home about the same time I was going to be home from work so I was totally excited to have some delicious dinner waiting for me at home. However, when I got home and started opening the packages, I started asking my sister, "did you order the eggs? What about the corn?" to which she said, "yes." She even told me that she had to specifically ask the person from whom she ordered what "kaedama" was and that she had instructed them to place the eggs on the side and not in the soup. Well, the corn was missing and the TWO eggs that she had ordered and paid for weren't in the bag. And on top of that, I also noticed that my ramen bowl didn't come with seaweed. Frankly, I'm not sure whether or not the ramen bowl was supposed to come with seaweed, but my sister had sent me a picture of her bowl from when she was at the restaurant and it included seaweed. As for the ramen itself? It wasn't too bad. But it didn't wow me either. Maybe it would have been much better if I had consumed the ramen at the restaurant immediately after it was ordered. However for to-go order, even after heating up the broth, it just okay. Combine that with the missing sides that were ordered, meh. read more

The service was great and the edamame was delicious. The calarmi was a bit rubbery and I wasn't sure how fresh everything in the ramen was. The noodles seemed undercooked & the broth could've been warmer. The meat was questionable as well - the Tonkatsu was ground beef not a slab of meat. read more

From the looks of the place, it has a vibe that matches their food. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen with no egg, the addition of an egg costs extra so I chose not to get it but still loved the ramen I had. It was spicy but not to the point where I couldn't eat properly, it was at a level where you start to sweat. As a family we ordered takoyaki (6 pieces) and Karaage as appetizers, both were tasty in their own rights and would recommend you order either or both for appetizers. The workers were nice and attentive. Would recommend this place with family for a more special event than just a lunch outing due to the price. Overall a 5 for both taste and service read more
Amazing food but the napkins are the WORST. No restaurant in Houston should have these napkins. The pork chashu bowl is always good. The mentai mayo chicken karaage was pretty good but the chicken chunks were a bit large. The tonkatsu ramen was good but lacked some spice and the bowl was smaller than usual. I also tried to substitute thick noodles but was not allowed to. Drinks are served in plastic cups which makes it less nice. read more

I have been eyeing on this place for quite a while. Recently got a chance to try it out. We placed 2 orders of tonkotsu ramen spicy with egg, 1 spicy ramen with egg for two to go. Also, got fried chicken for our toddler. We both absolutely loved our tonkotsu ramen! The soup broth was so creamy, rich and flavorful. Fresh ramen noodles, delicious sliced pork, fresh greens and egg with soft yolk made it such a filling dish. Spicy ramen did not please our palate. I found it kind of having a smoky flavor. As for the fried chicken, I tasted and dint like it very much however my toddler loved it and finished up all. He is a picky eater and rarely finishes up his food. So, highly likely I'd order it again. To go packaging is nicely done. Separate packaging for broth, ramen noodle with other ingredients and seaweed. My noodles were clumping together so I tossed it well. We ate after over an hour of having the food picked up, so no comments on that. I just warmed the broth and poured it into the bowl with all the ingredients. During this current pandemic, the staff were seen wearing masks. I felt safety guidelines has been maintained on my to go visit. We'll definitely be returning. read more

Solid place for good ramen. This restaurant is pretty small, but I was seated right away at 5:10 on a Friday. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen, and it was really good. The broth was rich, not too spicy, and overall very tasty. The pork chashu was tender and also very good. However, my party also ordered the Mentai mayo chicken karaage as an appetizer, and it was mediocre as the chicken wasn't crispy. Overall, I think this is one of the better ramen places I've had in Texas, especially if focusing exclusively on the ramen. read more

Decided to try this ramen joint since it is close to my home. It was a small eatery with a quick, attentive staff. My daughter and I went because she's a pack ramen kind of girl and I wanted to give her the experience of true ramen. She was delighted at the taste and so was I. Ordering was super easy, and the crowd was small when we got there. By the time we were ready to leave, it was filled with patrons! Super quick change! I'd definitely recommend! read more
There's nothing like having a craving for a food then have it satisfied, but that was the outcome when I ate here. I was in town for the holidays and it was so good we ate here twice. I had the spicy chicken ramen with an egg. My daughter chose just rice with seaweed (and they gave her a big filling bowl of it), and my fiancé ordered a rice bowl with chicken, seaweed and other items. We also tried the pineapple beer and it was different but in a good way. My ramen broth was divine and flavorful! It was spicy but not too hot you couldn't enjoy but just enough heat to open you up. Everything was really good. The space is small and quaint, clean and the staff is very accommodating and friendly. You order at the table that has menus taped to it, whether you're dining in or getting take out. The employee was patient and answered our questions. I believe if I lived in the area I would eat there probably weekly. read more
This place is amazing!!!!!! The food I amazing but the service is mind blowing. I had the pork tonkotsu ramen with ajitama. I've never had real ramen before but this ramen makes me want to keep eating it. The broth was quite rich and packed with umami. The mushrooms and bamboo shoots added to the savory flavor which was perfectly balanced by the sweetness and fairness of the pork chashu. The service was even better. We had a very nice Japanese woman as our server. She was quite attentive and very helpful. Being me I suck at using chopsticks and basic motor skills (lol). The lady was nice enough to help me pack my ramen up to take home and it was as if my grandma was the one helping me. Will come back soon for sure! You should stop by too! Itadakimasu! Hmm I think this may be my new fav ramen place in Houston region. I got the spicy tonkotsu which was very flavorful. The noodles are just the right amount of chewy. The takoyaki was just ok though. Service was great and everything came out promptly. read more

2nd time back when in town visiting. Tried the spicy tonkotsu and had an order of the black fried rice. The broth was just as good as I remember with a kick. Only thing this time was the meat was more fatty and chewier. Otherwise, delicious meal. The black fried rice was on spot too. If I'm in town again, no doubt I'd do a pit stop here. read more
I tried the chicken ramen $12 and it was delicious! Broth was rich and creamy, great ramen texture and good amount of meat. Pretty fast service when ordering and the waitstaff kept refilling my water. Clean place, next to Seiwa Japanese market. Will come back for other stuffs. read more

I decided one day to just go here for some dinner with a friend and fell in love with the ramen. I tried the Spicy pollo ramen and it was delicious, hearty. I've been to multiple ramen places in Houston but I always thought something was missing with the taste or wasn't spicy enough for my taste or even not enough noodles in the bowl. This place satisfied me with the spice level, I even added the fireball sauce on my ramen and was even more delicious flavor. I already went twice in a one week so of course I'll be going back again, and again lol. Introduced this way place to my partner and his response was, " this is the best ramen I've ever had" Thank you for the experience and fast service. You deserve 5 star!!!! read more
I live far from this place but had heard about it for years and just didn't go because I rarely leave the inner loop lol. Well I was getting a tattoo down the road and realized Ramen Bar Ichi is close! So I convinced my friend to go with me and the moment I walked in the smell made me SO happy. Holy moly it smelled like HEAVEN in there! I ordered the spicy chicken and CAN I PLEASE GET AN IV DRIP OF THIS!? I'm seriously contemplating driving all the way out there this weekend because I need more of it. Perfect for this cold weather. Broth was amazing. I've been to ramen places in almost every major city and this is literally one of the best places I've been to. The staff was also great! read more
The place was not bad. We ordered the combo because my husband and I love to eat. And the amount was decent, I won't say it's enough for someone who eat a lot, but it's enough if you don't have big tummy We ordered spicy tonkotsu and spicy pollo loco. The broth was tasty and rich, but bit too salty. Noodle was nicely cooked, not too saggy or hard. Will definitely recommend to others. read more
The tonkotsu ramen was delicious! The chashu was tender and juicy, and the broth was incredibly flavorful. I also got an egg for $1, which I think it's totally worth it! The egg tasted so good - soft and perfectly seasoned. However, the chicken was a disappointment. It was way too dry and salty to eat on its own. If you want to try an appetizer, I would suggest getting the takoyaki instead. Not comparable to what I had in Japan, but I would say that it's one of the best ramen meals I've had in Texas. Wow! Pleasantly surprised with how good this place was. My coworker and I were craving some ramen for lunch. I found this place on yelp, and checked out their menu. Usually a lot of ramen places only have pork based broths. Ramen Bar Ichi has chicken options as well PLUS vegetarian and vegan ramen. We had to check it out! The place is super cute and smaller on the inside- but still popping and super busy!! We sat, and ordered right away. I ordered the spicy pollo loco ramen with the ajitama (seasoned egg) as a topping. It was delicious. The perfect amount of spices, tender and juicy ground chicken in it as well which was so flavorful and a great touch. Usually I haven't had the best experiences at ramen places. The broth is sometimes too bland, and the chicken isn't well seasoned and is dry. I loved the broth, and its spices. I also enjoyed all of the add ins the soup included, and I LOVED the ground chicken (chicken soboro). I will definitely be returning!!! read more
My favorite Houston ramen spot by far, one might not think much of this little nondescript eatery next door to Seiwa. But you'd be wrong. The best and most authentic tonkotsu ramen in town is found here. Whether you opt for the regular or spicy, you're in for a treat. The most important essence of the ramen is undoubtedly the broth, and here you can tell it is made the right way, with lots of time and not skimping on quality in any way. This dreamy and milky elixir of life was just perfection. The noodles, which I request firm, are of the thicker variety, which happens to be my preference. Springy, slurpy, and downright sexy- they are divine when accompanied with slivers of firmer textures like the mushrooms, bamboo, and other goodies. The chasu is fall apart goodness albeit a bit on the skimpy side, and the egg is on point with the perfectly gooey center. Add the egg. You won't regret it. I recommend a dash of white pepper and spoonful of red ginger from the condiments on the table if you'd like the traditional touch. I haven't tried anything besides the tonkotsu ramen because it is just that amazing, but I'm looking forward to it if I can just pull myself away from the known perfection. They do offer mini rice bowls and an interesting selection of takoyaki dressed up every which way. read more

Loved the food I got here at ichi! The tonkotsu ramen was creamy and dreamy. I added an extra egg ( always the move). The Mayo tokoyaki was awesome as well. Large pieces of octopus and very crispy as well. I loved it. Will definitely be back. It also only took like 4 minutes to get my food so a very fast lunch stop. read more
I haven't been here in so long and now I remember why. Quality has definitely gone down and the ramen is no longer good. The broth is not creamy nor flavorful. I think they also use MSG from the way I've been super thirsty and having a quenched jaw. They didn't have much options to chose from. It was either tonkotsu or chicken, aside from their dipping ramen option. The only thing good were the appetizers, fried squid and kaarage (chicken). Such a shame since they used to be one of the top ramen places in Houston. The store also smells like sewer which didn't help with the overall experience. read more

Been here over five times and their ramen is always amazing. I go for the spicy pollo loco and it's packed with flavor. Noodle texture is perfect and the service is quick and friendly. Would definitely recommend to any ramen enthusiast in htown read more
So... the hours are weird. I'll start by telling you that you should be here before 7pm (to be safe). Plan accordingly so you can savor the noodle goodness. On to the Nitty Gritty. Nitty Gritty To start, I will be back to work my way through the culinary wonders that make up their menu. I began with the Spicy Pollo Loco Raman ( with the egg... bc why wouldn't you). The aroma was magnificent, the boiled egg was a perfect 6 minute egg (for you egg heads who know how beautiful a 6 minute egg is). The broth was a great balance of spicy and savory, while hiding in its depths perfectly cooked beef, Ramen noodles, and veggies that brought the whole dish together. I tip my hat to the chefs. You all are amazing. I loved how the spice was serious, but wasn't overpowering. People, the food was seriously on point. My only point of constructive criticism is the line to order feels rushed because you're standing at a table in a small space. If customers could be seated and order from an app or use a QR code (as covid has shown us can work very well), it would be more comfortable. read more

In terms of Htown ramen, i think i found my new favorite. In terms of ramen in Texas from Houston to Austin to Dallas, this ranks top 5 in my book. Starting with the lunch combo, they give you more than enough food to feed 2 for the price of 1. Great deal. I got the tsukemen plus the mentaiko mayo chicken while my mom got the vegetarian ramen plus the ponzu citrus chicken. the citrus chicken was better in my opinion. Dressed with a ponzu sauce plus garlic chips, it had more contrasting flavors to not make the dish taste too saturating/oily. The mentaiko mayo was good too, but overall it was a bit too heavy. In terms of the ramen, the tsukemen broth tasted like a concentrated tonkotsu broth, rich in the pork flavor. It was not too salty either, which is always a plus. The vegetarian ramen was very light with the spinach noodles, and the broth was refreshing. Lastly, i finished the meal with an ikura bowl because why not. They used barley rice in the ikura bowl, which actually created a better flavor than i thought possible. I wish it had a tad bit more ikura, but they definitely did not skimp. Will be back to try more for sure! read more
Best ramen in Houston!! Got take out and it was still so good! The spicy tonkatsu ramen kept me warm and toasty from this treacherous Houston winter weather. What makes this ramen so special is the broth! Omg the broth was rich, spicy, porky, and simply addictive. As for the noodles, they were al dente just the way I like it. The egg was perfectly cooked with a runny, soft, yellow-orange yolk. Pork chasbu had a nice burnt char but was just okay! Other than that, this was such an enjoyable, cozy, slurp-worthy bowl of ramen! read more
It's a pretty decent ramen place! I like that their menu has a lot of Asian-style cocktails because my friends and I are big fans of lychee/ramune/yogurt alcoholic drinks. We all ordered their Tonkatsu ramen, and their broth is really rich and creamy. I am not the biggest fan of their noodles, but ramen tends to get a bit repetitive the more you eat it anyways. I recommend! If you're a ramen fan, this place won't disappoint. read more
I had dinner here for the first time last week on the recommendation of a couple of friends. Located in a nice strip center, it has an attractive interior that was about 3/4 full during my meal. The menu is not that varied but it had what I wanted which was the Tonkatsu Ramen for $10. They had extras like an egg for another dollar but I declined. The food came out in about 10 minutes. Great broth, flavorful noodles, delicious meat, etc. etc. etc. It was all very good. My only hiccup was that when the food was delivered I asked the waitress for a fork as a I am a gringo who never learned the art of chopsticks. She forgot about me and I had to eventually get up and go ask for it. I found out that they don't assign servers to tables and everyone there is your server. Well, for me that didn't work out so well so I vote for having assigned servers. Oh well, it was still a very good meal that I would readily order again. read more
I 100% support this ramen establishment because they did everything to earn the full 5 stars on my dine-in visit. They surpassed all my expectations in regards of sustenance, service, and sanitation. It was my first meal of the day so you know ya girl was on the brink of becomin' hangry. Luckily (for me and them) it did not come to that. Instead I was a happy and satisfied ramen girl. Delivery Order. I decided to try Ramen. Havent had good experiences with Ramen in the past...but todays a new day. I ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and the Spicy Cucumbers. The food was packaged perfectly. I really enjoyed the ramen. I was delightfully surprised. The meat was a bit fatty, but still good. It was spicy enough to make me a lil hot....Definitely not overpoweringly spicy....It was very good. The cucumber salad I was not a fan of at all....sad about that since I love cucumbers....but that was a Noooo from the first bite....not my thing. Overall, its a little pricey, but I definitely will get Ramen again, and the packaging was perfect. Great to go / delivery experience. read more

Probably the weakest bowl of ramen we have had in Houston. The noodles weren't bad. The pork was dry and flavorless. The egg was cooked perfectly, but also flavorless for a seasoned egg. The broth tasted alright, but wasn't rich and creamy. Very watery, which for tonkotsu, isn't my style. Surprised this was one of the "best" places. Average to say the least. read more
This is a unique place to visit. It is small, but comfortable. It has authentic Japanese cuisine. I did not take pictures of the octopus balls they were delectable . We ate them immediately, the were a piece of art , served with t we o sauces and They come in fours and I could have eaten tons of them. The spicy chicken noodles was fine if you like miso broth. I did not like this dish because is it. It was flavorful and full of noodles, mushrooms and ground chicken. We hand Matcha Mocha balls for dessert and vanilla ice cream with mango topping and black honey sauce... yum .. yum. If you enjoy experiencing different cultures you will love this place.
