A pound of ground something or other? Nope. There is usually some teenager running the place all by his or her lonesome. If there is adult management floating around, I never see them. However, there's always great gossip to be overheard while standing in the checkout line. The following exchange actually happened. Names have been changed to protect the guilty. Tammy Sue: There's a bunch of news people over at the trailer park again. Taking pictures of (B-List Celebrity Who Hasn't Had A Role In Over 20 Years). Betty Lou: Is she on drugs? Tammy Sue: Well, I don't know. Her husband works up at the Wal-Mart, I heard. But she can't get a job. Betty Lou: Such a shame. Me: Are you talking about *B-List Celebrity Who Hasn't Had A Role In Over 20 Years* from Sit-Com You Can Watch On Nick At Nite? Tammy Sue: Oh, yeah. She lives over in the trailer park. There's assholes with cameras over there all the time. Lesson: The paparazzi *will* find you no matter how irrelevant you are.

I only go in there if I forget stuff when I was in Walmart for my weekly grocery trip. Walmart is fifteen minutes away, and Thriftway is one mile away, so it's convenient. They sell a lot of weird off-brand groceries - brands that I've never heard of. The brand-name stuff, if they carry it in the item I need, is really expensive. I refuse to buy meat there after buying spoiled chicken several different times. Too much of it is discolored on the outside, and if you buy it and take it home, it's rotted on the inside. Blech. Always, always check the expiration date on everything, especially the refrigerated and frozen items. I've bought things in the past, like shredded cheese, and nearly vomited when I opened the package, and the smell of very rotted cheese hit me. To sum it up - never buy meat there, check the expiration dates on everything, and expect to pay a lot of money on brand-name items. Oh, and avoid the deli too. Don't buy any of the potato salad, slaw, etc... Trust me on this, it's a bad idea. The store is clean. The last time I checked, they sell alcohol at a reasonable price, and they sell cigarettes at the state minimum price.
