Randolph County Animal Shelter - Sweet Piper we adopted (previously named Hannah). - Randleman, North Carolina

The residents of this county have been screaming for changes in this shelter to make things better and slowly they are getting there. They replaced the manager and the new one is actually reaching out to the community and making efforts which is more than I can say about the previous manager. The only thing that is going to make this shelter better is to improve the hours of operation. Right now their hours are typical business hours of Mon - Fri 9 - 5:30. That is when normal people and the vast majority of people are working themselves. It does not offer any time on the weekends for people to be able to come in and meet the animals or bring their whole family to meet a potential pet. That is crazy to me! Well over half the adoptions in any shelter are done on weekends. Until this gets changed they are severely limiting the animals from getting adopted or even rescued. Those of us who run rescues work full time jobs too! So many animals could be saved by simply changing the hours. Guilford Co is open both Saturday and Sunday. They open later and stay open later. They close on Tuesdays to do what needs to be done. Randolph County needs to get on board with being open on weekends to better serve the public but mostly to better serve the animals! That is what the shelter is for! North Carolina was one of the top 5 states last year for euthanizing in shelters. WE HAVE GOT TO DO BETTER!!!!! I do want to acknowledge that the new management has started posting strays on social media to try to find their owners and also doing more on social media to get the animals available for adoption more exposure. Parking is okay, but the people are very friendly and the animals seem to be well taken care of, very happy with this animal shelter.
