ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! I subscribed to access the archives for a family member and then tried to cancel and found it to be impossible. You cannot do this online- you have to call a number and good luck ever talking to anyone. You just stay on hold indefinitely. They count on you to give up and then take another $30 a month. RC Journal is a surprisingly decent local paper. But the online subscription service SUCKS. After taking advantage of an intro offer, you are unable to stop auto-renewal or cancel online. This means spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to reach a customer service rep, and then repeating CANCEL over and over and over until they finally give up and let you quit. It's such a miserable experience, so... ONE STAR. read more

Not helpful when needing an additional papers. Lobby not open to public no matter the day or hours. Will not answer phone calls or redirected to outside locations outside not within the area. I would not recommend subscribing to the printed version of this newspaper unless you prefer a digital subscription. read more

After several attempts to upgrade my digital subscription to home delivery I finally gave up and put a block on my digital subscription. Nobody answers the phone or returns calls. Why the Rapid City Journal has no functioning customer service department is the question. It is pretty clear they have no interest in securing new customers or retaining current ones. read more

Despicable service. An absolute pain to cancel. No worthwhile media or stories. All around lazy corporate journalism masquerading as a local news company. Sold out long ago. Now it's all about generating revenue and likely not hiring enough journalists and not paying the journalists they have enough to write real articles instead of just copy pasting national articles. I have moved around and lived in multiple states in the last five years, and subscribe to the local newspaper wherever I live. I LOVED getting the digital Rapid City Journal in my email each morning for the past 2 years--it is really easy to navigate, and I enjoyed the variety of local, statewide, and national news featured in the Journal. But, since I am moving to another state, I decided to cancel my subscription so that I can subscribe to the newspaper of my new home. I think everyone, at some point, has had bad experiences with customer service reps--being put on hold for long periods of time, being transferred to a line with loud classical music for 45 minutes, etc.--those slightly unpleasant customer service experiences don't hold a candle to this. I called (very politely) and gave my name and account information to the customer service representative. I had the "account status" website page opened up in front of me so that I knew I would be giving him the correct information. Because I live on school housing on a reservation, I explained that others could be on the address linked to my account, so I suggested that he try to look me up via phone number or account number. The customer service representative got super angry, accused me of making information up, lying about my name, lying about having an account, and wasting his time. I am a teacher, so I am used to dealing with negativity and frustration, but this was seriously aggressive in a totally unnecessary way. I was not expecting to be yelled at over a newspaper cancelation on a Thursday morning, but here we are. Finally, after over 10 minutes of being berated on the phone by this man, (I did not raise my voice once, and was trying to comply the whole time) all he had to do was type in my phone number to find the account. Ridiculous. Rapid City Journal, for the love of all things good and holy, MAKE A CANCELLATION OPTION ON YOUR WEBSITE and hire a local high school kid with dreams of becoming a writer/journalist to work as a customer service intern instead of outsourcing to such an aggressive and unprofessional individual. read more

This is about the digital version. They add little new content each day. The news is not indepth, more like TV news in nature. They do not delete old advertisements, for example an ad for a gun show in January was still listed in March. When I went to cancel I had to do it by phone and it took 20 minutes to do it. I had to suffer attempts to sell the hard copy paper as I was trying to cancel the digital. read more

I've been reading the Journal since grade school in the 1960's. I've seen the Journal descend from an informative afternoon local newspaper to the rubbish that it currently is. We get plenty of national and international news from other media. What we are looking for is good and unbiased reporting on local news and activities. There has been a major change in the Journal in the last couple of years (I heard there was a change in ownership, but don't have the facts of the matter) with an increasing emphasis on trying to report woke national news. Regurgitation of CNN and AP reporting is evident, rather than objective and informative articles on local, regional and state events. The web site is an absolute joke, and even the emails on local obituaries is pathetic. We need a local alternative to this rag. read more

Impossible to cancel. Literally took me an hour to figure it out because the only way to cancel is to call a customer service call center that sounds like it's in India possibly. They realize their paper is not great so they make it hard to cancel in hopes you give up and just take the payment as a loss. read more

Delivery problems for years; vacation holds where they keep on delivering which can be a tip off for burglars. Have noticed over the years a decidedly leftist tilt and, after Trump's election, the number of anti-Trump letters to editors and Two Cents column far outweighs the other more balanced side. I won't pay for this type of biased reporting; can get that on the major networks on television. read more

Subscribed to the digital version until there were more than 5 errors in every article. Called to cancel after receiving a letter about a price increase. Was assured it would not be billed to me again. Bills never stopped. What an embarrassing newspaper. read more

I can no longer download the e-edition on Chrome; I have to use Windows Explorer. I called customer service, which took me to some other country, and was told it was a technical issue and to give it 24 hours. Right. ALSO, I received a solicitation phone call, from the Journal, offering the Sunday edition for $2 a week, for 13 weeks. I thought it was a good deal, so I signed up. So far, after two weeks, I have not received a Sunday paper. But my credit card has not been charged either. read more

We have been receiving the Journal for years now and are very happy with the paper, especially the digital version. After a few hiccups when it was introduced, it has become stable and a pleasure to read in full page mode. We have not had any problems with the paper delivery either. Gives the local news and some international news. read more

Right now I am not happy. I have experienced an on going delivery issue all summer. What is so hard about delivering a newspaper? It's been done hundreds of years, you think they could figure it out. I will update and improve their rating if the can least move into the 18th century and get me a paper. read more
