I've been visiting this RareTea since I was a student, and it continues to be a reliable boba spot right next to campus after all these years. Even when there are long lines to order, the wait is never long because the shop manages to prepare drinks in under five minutes. The menu offerings are pretty standard, and you can't go wrong with the fruit teas. My only guidance is to order them at 0% sweetness because the fruit flavorings are very sweet on their own. There is limited seating inside and outside, but it seems like most customers order their drinks to-go (campus is across the street, and downtown Davis is a couple of blocks away). Even with new boba shops opening in Davis all the time, I still go to RareTea for the consistency and convenience. read more

The drink tasted really good after my long walk with my bf we had about 5,000 steps and I almost passed out from dehydration. This drink helped replenish my thirst. Raretea Davis is a cozy spot with plenty of seating and something about this place feels very nostalgic. The seating area being away from the main counter makes it a quiet place to study and enjoy tea. It's a very laid back spot! You can order through scanning a QR code, inputting your selections into a kiosk, or with the one employee behind the bar. The wait can vary with one person making all the drinks, so if there's a big order before you, be prepared to hang out a bit. I had the opportunity to enjoy the Guava Spring Tea, half sweet, with lychee jelly. It was very refreshing and perfectly sweet. I would stop by again if I'm in the area. read more

Was my first time at this place. Their drinks are ok (average). But, the girl who took my order was very rude. I asked for boba and caramel pudding for my milk tea, but I only got caramel pudding. When I asked where the boba was, the girl said that I didn't ask for boba. The girl is Asian and was trying to convince me that usually the drink that I requested doesn't go with boba. I'm a boba fanatic and I always request my drinks with boba. However, strawberry matcha milk tea shouldn't be drunk with boba according to her etiquette. The ambiance of the store was nice, it felt small, cozy, and a little dingy (but not in a bad way). The service was good, the lady working seemed nice. I personally ordered the strawberry milk tea, and recieved my food in a timely manner. First of all, the milk tea had a consistency of a slurpie, but honestly I'm not complaining! Rare Tea was very much meant for getting food and drinks. The ambience is a bit lacking but still has a good seating area for waiting. The service was fast and simple. For the food and drink aspect, we got the strawberry milk tea and popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken is not traditional to the Taiwanese popcorn chicken with flavors of basil and 5 spice. This was their own rendition so if you were looking for the traditional kind this not the place to get it. However we really enjoyed the flavor as it was more on the spicy and salty taste coupled with a lemon on the side. It was unique and quite enjoyable for us so if you were looking for a change of pace I would recommend. I highly recommend the strawberry milk tea. I love Rare Tea and think it needs more love. It's open, despite the constant construction happening in the building it's located in. My favorites are their Watermelon Green Tea and Black Milk Tea. I've also had their Peach Black Tea, Strawberry Berry, and Mango Passionfruit. They use fresh fruit purées for their drinks, rather than artificial fruit syrups. If you're a fan of fruit "pulp" (tiny fruity bits) in your drinks -- I'm a fan -- this is the place for you! I also recommend getting less sweet for everything if you like a stronger tea flavor. They also use non-dairy milk for their milk teas by default (similar to Teaspoon) with the exception of their "Fresh Milk" drinks. A bit pricier ($5-$6 for most drinks) but worth it. RareTea near campus seems like a hidden place! The drinks are unique and are satisfactory most of the time. I usually get the Okinawa milk tea and the flavor is really comforting and tasty. The most recent time I got it though, the boba was clumped together and hard - (sad). The place has space and tables for you to study or do work which is nice. I never knew about this RareTea in Davis which seems it used to be a ShareTea, because it still has a ShareTea sign outside and this location hasn't been here long according to Yelp. Their Classic Coffee was pretty on point (a lot of their other locations don't seem to carry it for some reason). I don't normally order a lot of coffee drinks as they tend to be too sweet, but this tasted just like a frozen coffee cappuccino. *** Vegetarian Review **** Location. Location. Location. If you're a student at UCD, this place is probably a second home. For some, it might even be accounted for in your tuition -- housing, books, reg fees, Starbucks, and boba. Over the last decade, this spot has been several businesses. I've always wondered how and why they couldn't make it because they are literally a stones throw from the campus plus you can usually find street parking right in front or at a minimum, not more than 1 1/2 blocks away. So why did all prior businesses fail? Best guess, they weren't Sharetea and they didn't feature the best boba in a town that has plenty of boba shops to stick a large mouthed straw into. My Usual (will post picture next time I visit): Taro Ice Blend with Pudding, add boba (Grade A): You'll find this under the "Ice Blended" menu. "Ice blended" basically means "Jamba Juice-style." But because it was nearly 100-degrees outside, the heat made me feel adventurous and I tried something off the "Milk Tea" menu. Okinawa Pearl Milk Tea with boba, add pudding, with 80% sweetness level (Grade A): No wonder this place always has a line 4-6 people deep. Takes forever to state your order. Now if you like milk tea, you'll love this. It has roasted brown sugar so I recommend 80% sweetness. And since they don't blend the ice Jamba Juice-style, I also recommend requesting they add more ice when the thermometer reaches triple-digits. First-timers ... Don't Forget: (1) Add pudding! If you're choice doesn't include pudding, just ask. It's the best 50-cents you'll ever spend. Boba shop pudding is more like dessert flan or custard. It's scooped into your drink and nestles down at the bottom so you'll get that savory custard in every sip. (2) Register your phone number. I've been here dozens of times and I usually get 80% sweetness, but 100% smiles! (2) Outside seating and plenty of signage to remind you to clean up after yourself. (3) You need a bathroom key. Yikes! Just plan ahead if you avoid those bathroom keys like the plague like I do. (4) Straws are individually wrapped! Almost makes up for the bathroom key. This place gives me a headache. On the one hand, I like their Thai tea with brown sugar boba, and I like that I can bring the reusable cup I got from a five square deal. On the other hand, they are so inconsistent. I have been getting the exact same thing a couple times a week for the past couple of months and I never get charged the same for it twice. I like to get Thai tea with a little tiny bit of brown sugar boba, and half sugar. They have never honored my request to put a small amount of boba, they always just put the full amount. Some times they charge .50 cents for the boba, and sometimes they charge a dollar. Maybe it was part of a promotion that ended, but when I first got the reusable cup they said it meant a dollar off the cost of boba, and now it's .10 cents. The other day I ordered my boba, she put the brown sugar boba into my reusable cup and then put it down on the counter. I watched as another guy made a regular boba drink with full sugar into a landfill cup, and then call out my number. By this time I was already late for class, and they had already wasted the cup, so I took it as is, I had to stick my reusable cup into my bag, full of the brown sugar boba I paid extra for. They didn't even dump it for me and it squidged up my junk. and I only drank half of the drink I didn't have time to remake because the regular boba and full sugar both make me feel kind of sick. The boba is hit or miss, sometimes it's fresh and delicious, sometimes is a little stale, and sometimes it's straight up grod The student worked are checked out, they legit don't care, and I get it, it's a minimum wage job. Okay boba lovers, do not be confused - this location is still SHARETEA. The sign is still up, but it is also Tea One's 2nd location, and you'll see "Rare Tea." During my visit (9/20/18), 3rd St. is completely closed due to some construction, but thankfully, walking around Davis isn't bad at all! Back to boba. I brought my reusable cup from Tea One on E St. and you get 10 cents off ...yay??¿?¿ lol I ordered one of their drinks from the pineapple series, Pineapple Cake. I was so hesitant to get it but I loved it! I loved how cakey it tasted and loved the sourness from the pineapple flavoring! Super refreshing on a hot day in Davis. Sharetea is an aight place to get boba in Davis. There are soooo many places to get boba... so where does this one rank? For me, this one is probably close the middle somewhere. First, I have to talk about location. If you're a UC Davis student, then this location is great. It's just off of campus - very close to the big social sciences building and just a short walking distance from the MU. It is among the other small restaurants just off campus. If you're not someone on campus, this location is not idea. A lot of the parking around it is reserved for residents around the neighborhood. It's a bit hard to get to, and may not be worth it for just a boba drink. In terms of the teas, Sharetea is pretty good. As with most boba places, you can adjust the level of sweetness to your liking. Sharetea also has plenty of special flavors unique to its establishment. The last time I was there they were advertising their grape flavors. I thought that was pretty cool. Though there are lots of different drinks to choose from, there are also quite a few drinks that are unavailable. One of my favorite milk teas to get at Sharetea is the ginger milk tea. Sadly for me, it made the list of drinks unavailable at the time I was there. What a bummer! I noticed that there were quite a few other flavors that you couldn't get either. Overall, I think Sharetea Davis is a good place to get boba. Yet another boba place for Davis, just what they needed... At least Sharetea has finally arrived closer to Sac! I never tried it whenever I was in SF since I would rather go back to T-Pumps, so I'm glad we're able to take a short drive over to Davis and check it out. The place is bigger than I could see from the photos. There's plenty of room to stand if the line starts growing, and there's plenty of tables inside and outside. A perfect study spot for those college students! The menu is straightforward, nothing unusual from your other favorite boba spots. I went with the Okinawa Milk Tea. It seemed normal to me...especially since I'm already hooked on the pearl milk tea from Cool Tea Bar. This used to be Oshio Cafe, and just opened a week ago. I was overdue for a boba date with Ani T. after work and it was a toss-up between Mandro and this new place. Sharetea won out. I'd never heard of its SF Bay or Socal locations. Parked near 3rd and C and walked over. Outside seating available, indoor seating to the right as you enter. There was no line, so the space between the door and the counter seemed huge...maybe if they had those bars/ropes/chains to define the line or provide direction... Place orders on the left, pickup on the right when they call your number. I usually would go for honey milk green tea (Old Teahouse) or some version of taro milk black tea (Teabo), but was intrigued by the Okinawa (brown sugar) and the Hokkaido (toffee). The Happy Family one has like everything in it too: milk tea, herb (grass) jelly, lychee jelly, pudding, and tapioca pearls. Got the Okinawa Milk Tea with pearls, normal amount of ice and normal level of sweetness. Ani got the same, except at 80% sweetness, and we both agreed mine tasted better. The lessened sweetness did bring out more of the roasted tea flavor though. They do accept cards, didn't have any stamp cards though readily available. Overall large one-size cup, chewy boba, tasty but not "wow," and too far into town for me to warrant coming back regularly. I've seen firsthand, it took ten years, but Davis is way cool now. Spoiled current students have this boba place right there near campus, Pho, Sam's, Star Ginger food truck...! Don't get me started with the Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and midtown Sac eateries that also moved in. (Other boba locations, drinks are a refreshing chill when you ask for no ice) I come here occasionally, if my friends want to go, or I just ate at a restaurant close by and want to end with boba. Sharetea definitely did some remodeling because as I remember Oshio didn't have too much room for seating inside and wasn't very well lit. Now there's plenty of room both inside and outside of the restaurant and it's very well lit! They did choose an interesting color for their walls tho (yellow and brown).. Came here yesterday and it was completely empty! Not usually a very good sign to walk into an empty place.. Then again, most of Davis was a ghost town because finals were over and spring break had started. Ordered the ice cream black milk tea and asked for 30% sweetness and less ice. They charge 25 cents for no ice which seems kind of stingy to me because the Sharetea locations in SF, San Mateo, and Palo Alto don't do that. Milk tea tasted watered down and wasn't sweet at all. Boba was mushy and seemed like they over cooked it. Thank goodness there was a scoop of ice cream in there to give it some sweetness. I don't think I've ever had a completely satisfied experience here, even though I give it so many chances since this is the most conveniently located milk/fruit tea shop on campus and I remember I've always had good experiences from the Sharetea location I frequent to back home. With the matcha flavored drinks (matcha creama specifically), I had always felt my mouth dry and throat scratchy because of the undissolved dregs of the matcha powder in the drink. I tried them twice and I had the same experience. I had the strawberry black tea, and it had a weirdly opaque color to it, despite that the other times I or a friend got this drink at the Davis location and back home it was translucent and looked like black tea with a lot of strawberry bits on the bottom. Maybe they started using a lot of syrup or something to get this new, unattractive color to this drink... The taste seemed fine though, until towards the end where I felt kind of sick from it. It left a bad aftertaste... I really want to like this Sharetea, so I hope they do decide to communicate with other Sharetea locations to make their drink formula as consistently good as other locations!! read more
