Went here with a group of 6, and my family of 4. Great happy hour prices on menu items, including the drinks. Thoroughly enjoyed the pretzel with dijon mustard, curry wings and homemade fries! The hamburg sandwich (a handburger) and chicken schnitzel were highly enjoyed by my work colleagues, but not my 13 and 15 year old. I would definitely recommend this for an adult dinner option- great drinks and a lean menu. If your kids are the least bit picky and/or never had German food, you may want to try it yourself first before taking them. read more

Hidden gem! We were at the Guinness Brewery for Oktoberfest and got hungry. Found the BEST German restaurant that's also celebrating Oktoberfest! Food is sooooo good!!! Great German beers. I really wanted to like this restaurant...but I didn't. First, as my friend and I walked down the (outdoor stairs...restaurant is at basement level) we noticed seven or eight bright red drops of blood. When we entered the restaurant, I went up to a woman behind the bar and told her about the blood. She said, "Yeah someone cut their hand." Okay...I assumed she would have someone go outside and clean it up...more about that later. We were seated at the far end of the restaurant...a restaurant that has nothing acoustic to deaden the sound. It was so loud we asked to be moved to the front...we were and though it was still loud, it was bearable. We decided to split an order of stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer...stuffed with spinach and cheese. All we could taste was the mushrooms. We saw the spinach but all we tasted was mushrooms. My friend ordered the chicken schnitzel. The fried potatos that came with it were excellent (the only excellent thing we experienced). The schnitzel was dry...no moisture in the chicken at all. I ordered goulash. Itwas okay but I wouldn't order it again for two reasons...it was just okay and I'm never eating at the Rathskeller again. Okay, back to the blood. We were in the restaurant for about an hour. After we paid, a gentleman who worked there came over and said he hoped we enjoyed it. I mentioned the blood on the way in (not an appetizing way to start dinner). He said, yes he knew we had told the waitress when we came in. We put on our jackets and left and guess what...the drops of bright red blood greeted us on the way out. No one from the restaurant had even made an attempt to clean up this disgusting biohazard. I think two stars was being kind! I started out giving the restaurant two stars...giving it more thought, I changed it to one star. Not cleaning up blood in the entryway is inexcusable and probably should be reported to the health department. Postscript...the manager of the Rathskeller responded below. Waiting an hour to clean up the blood is inexcusable. If he had to inconvenience diners by taking ten minutes away from his work in trhe restaurant to clean up a biohazard...I must say he needs lessons from the health department. Totally inexcusable. A Burger King could have done a better job. read more

On a lark, my husband and I keyed in best restaurants in Elkridge. To our surprise, this restaurant was listed. We scratched our heads in awe as we lived here for almost 30 years. We later read the "about" on the website and learned it was here since October 2019 and had to close and open again for take out and limited dining since Covid19. We decided to check it out. Trying to imagine it's location. We were pleasantly surprised of how quaint and cozy the establishment appeared. The food is excellent, the beer was great, and the service was outstanding. Who knew there was a wonderful German food restaurant in Elkridge, Maryland. We plan to return and we will recommend this establishment to our friends and neighbors. read more

So this was the 2nd time I visited this place. This time I brought my parents with me and everything was incredible. From the schnitzels to the sides and pretzels.... solid. I work hard as a chef every single day feeding and supporting Howard county and the community and to have such an amazing experience on my rare Saturday off really resignated with me.... We were one of the last tables on a Saturday night and to see the staff eating family meal together put the icing on the cake.... Everyone please eat here there truly one of a kind in the area! My husband and I went to dinner last night at The Rathskeller and had some delicious food! We started with the soft pretzel and it was delicious! There so many apps I wanted to try so we'll definitely be back for the potato pancakes and risotto balls! For main meals I had the kebab with the falafel. The falafel was delicious! Husband and the chicken shnitzel and it was really great as well! Staff were attentive and super nice. It was loud at times but not the whole time. We will be back! read more

I was excited to go to this restaurant. Looks great from the outside but is poorly run. Was getting a early dinner / late lunch 4:30 in afternoon. Although there were lots of available outside tables --they said all they had were inside tables. Person said tables were reserved for later evening) -- we were fine with inside however they had rap music playing soooooo loud (strange choice for restaurant and even more so for German restaurant.). We ended up leaving and went down the street to Daniels (restaurant) much better experience! Think it is a restaurant simply not well run..a shame as I really wanted to try the food. This gem is hidden on an out of the way side street a few miles from BWI airport hotels. It is well worth the drive. The beers on tap are very good and not ones found in many pubs the food was also excellent! The servers are top notch, they take great care of their patrons, I watched them work together and delivering drinks to a table that was not theirs. This place is fabulous! My hubby and I were looking for a nice outdoors restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and in searching the area reviews, came across the Rathskeller! What a find! We love the patio, the staff, the food, literally everything! We went fora late lunch and were one of two groups on the patio. The weather cooperated, but I noticed an abundance of outside heaters so even when the weather gets a bit chilly, we will be toasty! I had the Chicken schnitzel with roasted broccoli and potatoes cakes, all divine. I was especially impressed with the chicken: it was lovely and thin but quite moist and the Panko breading was perfect! The broccoli was special, leaps better than typical restaurant broccoli! Go for it! The potato cakes were also lovely and yummy! Hubby's bratwurst was excellent along with the German slaw! His comment was that it was one of the best bratwurst he has had and we were In Germany last December, so the comparison Is recent! This is a fabulous place and we will be back..Often! Went here dinner after a meeting for work nearby. Place was buzzing, even for a Wednesday evening. Ambiance was good and the beer was great. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel. The schnitzel was good but could have used some salt and pepper. Had the spaelzle and cheese for a side and it was not very good. It had a grainy texture to the cheese sauce that was a sure sign of using pre-grated cheese and not grating it for the recipe. It also could have used some seasoning. Came here last night with a group of friends. Food was decent. It would be nice if there was more of a selection of German food. We got dessert because the waitress told us they had apple pie a la mode. We get the pie and no ice cream. It doesn't come with the pie. They charged us extra for the ice cream. Perhaps the wait staff needs to be more familiar with the menu and the meaning of a la mode? I also felt they were hustling us out the door. They close at 8, yet gave us a 7:30 pm reservation. My family went to The Rathskeller last Saturday evening for a birthday celebration. The pros: Nice decor, the ceiling wallpaper, the wooden touches are nice. Our server was excellent, efficient and personable. The cons: bring earplugs because there is no sound absorbsion whatsoever. The food choices were not extensive. I ordered a chicken schnitzel and it was not anything special. Mens room door didn't lock. I would recommend it as a nice place for drinks and maybe apps. read more

My first time to this restaurant and let me say it would not recommend for anyone to go to place. Please let me explain on 12/28/21, Made reservation for 6:OOPM the waitress sat us at two tables side by side located at the front door. Both of these tables were so uneven that our drinks spilled over. The waitress stated "just go under the table and make the adjustments to the screws but some times that doesn't work" I said I will hold the table while you adjust it. She needed to find the screw that took about 10:00 min to locate. While I am holding the table for her to make the repairs our flatware falls to the floor. This goes on for about 3 minutes I request if we could use the table next us, she agreed. Unfortunately that table was not cleaned at all very sticky, we needed to remind her to clean the table again. We placed the order...fries, chicken cordon bleu, potatoes pancakes, spaetzle ,roasted broccoli, Jaeger Schnitzel. The Pork and chicken was so over done we could not chew it and VERY SALTY we did not finish the meal. The spaetzle was reheated to the point the cheese stuck to the side of the container, The Broccoli was the only edible item on the plate. The maitre d asked if we have been to this restaurant before and how did we locate it. We explained that we have eaten at many German restaurants. She asked how did we compare I responded are you sure you want me to answer, yes please do so, After my comments she said "well I guess you got a bad batch that happens some times.I thought what a response. For some reason and I am still asking myself why I ordered the apple strudel. This was still ice cold. I asked to please remove this from our bill Needless to say we both needed to use the rest room immediately. I would not feed a dog this food how could they ever serve this to people. I ordered the Schnitzel bucket and Wurst platter to go for a family dinner. WOW! Very very tasty and generous portions! Sides were the braised cabbage, fries, spatzle, and slaw. We will be back... with friends! I'm not sure how we learned about the Rathskeller, but we decided to give it a try for a Friday night dinner without the kids. Reservations are available through OpenTable. The restaurant has a limited parking lot, but a dinner the other businesses that might share the lot are closed. There were other parties waiting when we arrived, so I was glad to have made the reservation as the seating is limited. Our hostess and waitress were both very friendly and attentive. I started with a Maryland-brewed Hefeweizen and my wife with a dry reisling from the ample selections. For our meals, I ordered from the Restaurant Week prix fixe menu, a pretzel, potato pancakes, Cowboy pork chop, and Black Forest cake dessert, and my wife ordered the Brussel sprouts starter and then chicken schnitzel with fries. All our food was delicious with leftovers to take home. We will be back, likely on a Wednesday 'Holy Schnitzel Night' to try the jagerschnitzel which is one of our favorite German dishes. read more
