We had a wonderful time eating here recently. Very friendly service and very good food. Sat outside with blankets to keep us warm. The beer drinkers chose Dunkel and Gruner Velti; The wine drinkers had the Riesling. Great start. The Wiener schnitzel was excellent as were the kraut salads. The schweinshaxe (roasted ham hock) was good. The goulash was also good. The best part of the meal were the desserts. Generous portions of apple strudel, the mixed ice cream and the affogato.

Good gastropub right on the town hall square serving authentic German food in Passau. We had sausages and sauerkraut, spaetzle and a mixed salad, and the potato salad. Food was good as was the beer (Zwickl is a must - Dunkel was good too). Posted the English menu for those interested - lots of good options.

What a great place to stop in for a beer. Sitting al fresco and drinking a local wheat Deutsche bier actually brewed in Passau on a beautiful afternoon in May. Couple that with a wonderful young server and free wifi and the afternoon was complete. We didn't eat so can't tell you about the food but I wouldn't hesitate to eat here.

Great service a lot of salt in the food, but great beer and company. Also open later if you are looking for something quick to eat.

The schnitzel was almost perfect, the chicken was well cooked, and we had a great salad as well. The bottle of local wine was also excellent. Our server was fast and efficient if a little thin on interaction. He was also very busy, so that's likely a part of it. The interior is nice, although we only saw a bit of it. The beer is brewed onsite, I'd love to see that, but alas, no. Five stars is what it deserved as everything was really really good!

We ordered a couple of appetizers to share. One that stood out was their trio dip and I particularly liked the pork belly crackling dip that was served with sourdough bread. It definitely is not the most healthy as it was greasy, but super flavorful with great texture from the cracklings. Another one I enjoyed was their Regensburger Wurstsalat. The sausages were thinly sliced paired with a crispy, tangy vinaigrette which was refreshing especially in a hot summer day. The scallions and red onions added another level of flavor and texture. For main, I ordered their braised pork belly and was pleasantly surprised. Th meat was tender, skin was still crispy and the sauce was hearty yet not too salty. My kids tried their schnitzel and they enjoyed it. However, my husband ordered one of their beef dish and I was told it was dry and salty. I honestly would recommended to just stick with pork when in Germany/Austria and stay away from beef because ever beef dishes we've tried were not good. Overall, this is your typical Biergarten with plenty of outdoor seating and tv's available to watch any sports. Our servers were all very friendly and relatively quick Austrian standard. The only thing is some tv's streamed ahead of others so the people who's watching the slower tv were a little upset as they would've heard the reaction of others before they can see the actions.

Thanks for your help and also suggestion "Don't drink too much beer!". It is definitely a tourist stop over but glad I did it and you should too. If you are coming from the side entrance, walk thru one of the double door with yellow sign. Also street sign above. Go down the huge stairs and you can hear and smell the fun. Make a left and at the end is where you pay for the beer, grab the stein, rinse and get it filled. All done within 30 feet radius. You can retrace back and grab all the meats and such. Cash only! Outdoor area is huge. Tree leaves started to come out Mid April. Interior beer halls with plenty of seats. 100's people drinking pints and pints of beer. Men's room, designed to take care of all this. Beer was ok, food was ok, experience was ok. Did meet one of the workers offered to take photos. Nicer one at it! All spoke good English so communication was good.

In the summer it is nice to sit outside. It is an excellent place to mingle with the very friendly Lower Bavarian locals. Lots of fun. As to their food. I've been here probably 5 times and the last few times I stuck with the BROTZEITPLATTE (assorted local meats and cheeses and their excellent bread (Graubrot). It is such a simple dish, however, all the locally made meats are made with sincerity and are so traditional. And everyone enjoyed it tremendously. In addition we had their WURSTSALAT, which is also highly recommendable. After these I never have the urge to have more food (just tons of more beer :))), although their warm dishes are also excellent, such as their Haxn or Schnitzel. Mingling with locals, fresh in-house brewed beer and traditional dishes make this always an unforgettable experience.

Wonderful German meals, the most delectable wiener schnitzel is almost as large as the plate it comes on! Generous half-liter drinks (beer, soda, etc) are filled to the top and the prices are extremely reasonable. Everything we've tried so far on the menu is delicious, looking forward to our next visit!
