After reviewing the scans, he told me that I had a deviated nasal septum that needed surgical correction, and that there was inflammation in my sinuses that needed to be cleared out. He also said he would enlarge the sinus openings to allow mucus to flow more easily. I told him that I didn't feel any discomfort in my nose, so why was surgery necessary? He said that generally, the nose, throat, and trachea are connected--if the nose is fixed, everything else would get better. He assured me that I would fully recover in two weeks, and I believed him, so I went ahead with the surgery. It's been almost two years since the surgery, and I am living in agony. There's a buildup of mucus in my nasopharynx that won't drain down, can't be cleared out, and I can't swallow it either. At night, the mucus flows back into my airway, making it hard to breathe and affecting my sleep. Sleep is so important for a person--poor sleep leads to countless problems. I used to be someone who could fall asleep the moment my head hit the pillow, but now, because of the postnasal drip, I wake up constantly throughout the night. I have tried everything I can, but the thick, sticky mucus keeps accumulating in my nasopharynx. Sometimes, my nasal turbinates swell up, making it even harder to breathe. On top of all this, I now get bacterial infections in my nose almost every month, and each infection makes me suffer for one or two weeks! If I could go back two years, I would slap myself a hundred times for listening to that doctor's advice and agreeing to the surgery. When I went back to see Dr. Furst after the surgery, he told me my nose was fine. So here's the truth: I had no problem with my nose, the doctor told me I had a problem and performed surgery, and now that I'm worse, he claims there's nothing wrong. This is an extremely irresponsible doctor. I'm truly living a life worse than death now. If one day I'm no longer around, it will be because of the surgery Dr. Furst performed. His surgery didn't help me--it ruined me! She is an awesome first impression to Dr Hawa! Getting here was easy and convenient. I recommend bringing a jacket with you, the office is very cool. Meeting Dr. Hawa was similarly great. He's a warm, friendly, and boisterous guy who I instantly liked. We hit it off talking about barefoot shoes and I quickly learned that he's a fountain of interesting tips and facts. Next, we began the patient interview and his line of questioning let him diagnose what was going on and sure enough, his corrective actions brought immediate relief. I like that Dr. Hawa is also in sports medicine and rehabilitation because he has a lot of exposure to athletes and their various ailments. As an avid indoor rock climber, we were able to talk through the pain I'd been experiencing, what I'd done to cause it, and exercises I could do to help strengthen and prevent this from recurring. He even showed me pictures from a medical book to better illustrate what was going on with my body. After some painless adjustments, he used interferential therapy, a kind of electronic stimulation therapy. I later looked it up and unlike TENS therapy which sends a current across your skin, interferential penetrate deeper providing some pretty legit relief. On top of the interferential therapy, he placed a heating pad on the affected area.

I sought acupuncture as a part of my treatment since I had been diagnosed with neurological Lyme disease, similar to MS. With this disease I was battling many health issues due to the number of co-infections I contracted from the disease, leaving my immune system severely challenged. If you have Lyme disease it is extremely challenging and complicated as well as unfortunately being highly misunderstood by the medical community. Realizing that conventional medicine did not have the answers is why I turned to functional medicine and really began to heal in the last two years. In the past, before I was diagnosed and still seeking conventional medicine, I did try acupuncture for the first time and it really did help me significantly with my seizure disorder that I developed from Lyme. That was a turning point for me to seeking help elsewhere. By the way I was on three anti-seizure drugs that did not work and acupuncture was the break through to beginning to alleviate it. Western medicine is finally catching up to what we already to know to be a valid and extremely helpful practice. I would like to say that I have worked with other acupuncturist in the past who were great, but having acupuncture with Dr. Ueno was a very significant part to my continuous healing. He is certainly part of my success. He is exceptionally intuitive about what the body needs in terms of support to heighten healing. I was going to have surgery and wanted to go back to my doctor at this practice but found that he had left the practice. I was then referred to see Dr Roeser. She used nasoendoscopy (a little camera used to look up your nose) to better see the condition of my septum. A process that takes 2 minutes in total. Not only she told me there was "nothing wrong" with my septum, her billing office had the audacity to charge my insurance almost $300 plus required $80 payment from me! I wrote a letter addressed to the doctor and got a call back from someone whose name was not disclosed to me basically asking "what do you want"? How unprofessional. I wrote a personal email to the doctor and some nameless person asked me what I wanted and during the conversation revealed to me that they had not discussed my inquiry with the doctor. After few weeks I received the same bill again. I called back this time I was given a different story by a "Sue". Doctor must know about it but decided to have them charge me anyway. She wasn't very confident in this information either. But she was confident enough to threaten me with collections. Here I am asking doctor how come she misdiagnoses me while 3 other doctors say otherwise. I am courteously asking in writing to her to have her office at least waive the frivolous charge and all I get is "we will send it to collections" and not a word from the doctor. Mind you I have had nasodescopy before and never been charged extra like I have been at this office. Also as a note I had a surgery recently on the septum that she found "nothing wrong" with. It is my opinion that this doctor is careless or inexperienced. Her billing office uses predatory billing methods to scrape every little penny they can get from their customers! Yes, you are a customer to these people not a patient. "Buyers" beware.
