This where I bought my first car. I was not able to get a loan from a bank even though I have a good steady job. The sales person Audra was very amicable, helpful and showed me different cars for buy here pay here deal. However, the finance guy was a different story. I had to pay an exorbitant interest rate if I wanted to buy and was not willing to work.I was desperate for a car so I just signed the paper. After nearly 2 years of paying more than my monthly installment , I called back to see if I can refinance and got very rude short answers . Seriously ! To make the story short, I understand you want to make a profit , you are in a business after all., but you can be polite and courteous to say the least!! I cant wait to payoff my loans and get out this dealership. read more

I don't live near the West side, and I'm rarely on that side of town. However, buying my used Hyundai at this Ray Skillman dealership was worth it. Making the decision to buy a new car is a huge pain in the butt, and I am typically a pretty indecisive person who often has buyer's remorse, even on much smaller purchases. I never once regretted going here for my darling "Frank" Sonata. Loren, the sales manager, was great and helped me get a good deal on the car when I compared it to other dealerships. The financing manager made the annoying process of getting a loan as pain-free as it could be. My next car's going to be a Mini Cooper, so I can't say that I'll be returning to this dealership to buy it... but if the car were to be one of the makes that they carry, I would go back without hesitation. I'm sure all car dealers screw you, but at least these guys didn't make it hurt too bad! :) read more

I recently purchased a vehicle at Ray Skillman Westside Auto Mall- a 2015 Huyndai Sonata with their Huyndai team and couldn't be happier. First, let me say this is my first vehicle purchase outside of my family business. My family has owned a car dealership in Northern Indiana for three decades- the business was sold a year ago. With that being said, I was leary to go elsewhere. I visited several dealerships in Indianapolis because I was unsure about what brand/model I wanted. Further, I felt like I always got that stereotypical "car salesman" pitch, demeanor and feel. At Ray Skillman, I worked with George Lewis- phenomenal. He didn't try to sell me on the radio, heated seats, but on the engine, car quality and longevity of the car. That sold me- genuine humans selling a product to people looking to purchase. Again, phenomenal. I would definitely recommend. I also went through their Financing. I worked with Brian Shultz- again, great. This opinion is based upon my experience of him exceeding expectations. He was dissatisfied with a loan rate I was quoted, though it was towards the end of the evening and they were closing- he took it upon himself to investigate better rates the next day- unsolicited by me. That shows that they care and aren't just there to turn a profit. I had already purchased the car. I will be a lifetime customer for as along as I live in Indianapolis area. Side note to address comments below- for the last two years I've lived in this city I've regularly done business with their service department. Never once did I feel up charged or hassled for unnecessary maintenance. Actually, quite the opposite. When suggested work came up in conversation for my car, it was often followed up with "you can wait until your next service - it's not an immediate safety concern," or "it's suggested to replace, but as you can see the part it's not worn. Knowing you and your driving patterns it makes sense this isn't as deteriorated as normal". Again, genuine people running a business. Definitely consider them for your new and used car shopping- I can't recommend them enough. read more

I do not know the man's name, but if you get the guy who sounds possibly english, ask for someone else. I use to works sales and can spot a liar when I see one, it's the reason I no longer work sales, I have higher morals than that..... First experience 2 months ago. My 2010 Hyundai has the starter go out. It was under warranty, but this guy tells me that if the real issue is not under warranty that the diagnostic will be $100.00. I then tell him that that sounds like gambling and I think that practice is BS. I go ahead and get an oil change and have all of the filters replace and said that I did not want to spend over 100 getting all of this done. He quoted me a little overt 90. The bill came back $30.00 higher. He failed to mention the labor charge and denied the whole thing when I went to pay. Second experience, SAME GUY, I go in for issues with the power steering. I am at just over 52,000 miles. He them writes me up a quote to replace all of the belts including the timing belt for $475.00 because he says that I NEED to get this done because I am close to 60,000 miles. After I do a double take and am visibly shocked at the price, his face goes blank for a sec and he acts rather insulted... just like sales people I have worked along side in the past who realized that the high $ item the were writing up was paying them nothing because the customer was not going to get "add ons" that would boost their commission. Anyway, my belts are barely cracked, still have a a year or maybe 2 in them left easy, and he LIED about the timing belt. He said 60,000 miles even though I am at 52,000, AND THE OWNERS MANUEL IN THE GLOVE BOX says 4.5 years which will be another 6 months or 90, 000 miles. If it had to do with miles alone, 90,000 is quite different than 60,000. Also check the tag for oil changes. That place will mark you for about 4,000 miles when the OWNERS MANUAL says 7,500 for this specific car. Read the service sections of your owners manual before dealing with this place, ESPECIALLY the English guy, or where every he is from. The stereotype of "crooked used car salesmen" came about because of people like him. read more

I brought my car in for a safety recall. Was told i would be done within 1-4 hrs. Luckily it got done in 1hr. Also gave the car a free wash as well. They normally have cookies out for the customers, but due to covid, that been suspended. But there is a soda and vending machine read more

Any dealership can post an unlimited number of false compliments about itself. You can take actual information from people with some inside knowledge of the Ray Skillman dealerships--and pay attention to the many negative reviews from poorly treated customers. Ray Skillman dealerships are using salesmen to BADLY mislead its service customers. If you buy a car here, you can expect to pay many thousands of dollars more than you should for service. A more honest RS slogan should be: "12 Brands, 18 Dealerships, Zero Concern for You." For a car purchase or service, go anywhere but here. read more

When I lost my car, my uncle suggest Ray Skillman because that is where he got his car. The car was fine for years and then I got a second car from them. The associates there are very patient and makes the place feel like home. My car is a 2010 and 2 years later, no problems. *knocks on wood* I forgot to add that I bought my car from buy here, pay here. They charge lower interest. My mom also got her car from here, and she loves it. Even when we did not have a warranty on our and the car was messing up, they would look at it and fix for free. My family has been purchasing cars from Ray Skillman for the past 15 years. Since buying my newest car from them in 2015, I've used them almost exclusively for service until this past August. I went to them for oil changes, tune-ups, system flushes, window motor, etc. Well, in August, I was in a rush and needed a quick oil change so I went to one of the quick lube places. The service there seemed ok - fast, friendly and decent prices. I wasn't set to need another oil change for another 3000 miles based on the quick lube recommendation. This past week my car started to rattle when I accelerated and then my check engine light came on. I thought the worst - time belt, power steering. I took my car into Ray Skillman for a diagnostic check fearing bad news, a long wait and an expensive repair. Bob Smiley and the team at Ray Skillman quickly diagnosed the issues and determined that the quick lube place did not put enough oil in my car! The lack of oil was causing the engine to rattle. For free Bob and the crew added oil to my car and got me in and out of the shop in 45 mins. I am really appreciative of their knowledge, great service and committment to quality. I learned my lesson and will only have my car serviced at Ray Skillman. read more

Very disappointed with the customer service. I bought my Mazda from the Westside Mazda location and I've been coming for 2 years faithfully for oil changes and other services needed so when I needed a body shop I didn't give it a second thought when I chose ray skillman. The CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. it's non existent and they only seem to care about the money. My body repair was supposed to be 3 weeks it ended up coming close to 2 MONTHS and the only time I got updates from them was when I called. Every time I called they gave me the run around about why it was taking so long and why they haven't communicated. My rental reached the 30 day max so I called to see about a courtesy car. They insisted I stay in the rental and that they'd take care of it. 2 more weeks goes by and I see that I am billed for my rental car... Rental car place said they were never contacted and it took me calling ray skillman collision back to get things taken care of. The final straw was them GUARANTEEING my car would be finished on Monday October 14th. i expresses my disappointment and agitation with the lack of communication multiple times and nothing was done. I asked what could they do to make up for this horrible experience and they told me they'd take off 200$... I finally get a call Friday October 25 saying my car is ready. I pick it up and ask if there was anything else they were going to do and the guy acts clueless. I will never spend another dime at ray skillman. Ever. I am very disappointed and agitated with how things were handled. read more

I'd gone to several dealerships when I was in the process of looking for my first new car. Most of the experiences were what you would assume the process to be....all day waiting, high prices, back and forth bickering over a $100 difference. When I went to Ray Skillman it was so much more pleasant. There weren't so many salesmen that it seemed like they were ready to pounce on me, yet there were clearly enough to assist everyone without having to wait. The entire process was several hours but that's including the test drive, paperwork, and financing. I've used them since for all oil changes, tire rotations, etc. and I've never once had a problem. The representatives that are in the service department are great and they know me by name and treat me like a valued customer whenever I'm in. They always go out of their way to see if there are any promotions that can be applied to whatever service I'm having performed. I have always elected to wait while they work on my car and I've never been there more than an hour. It may be a dealership in the middle of the city but it gives the small town feeling for sure. I will continue to be a customer for as long as they continue to provide such a good experience. read more

Ray Skillman sold me a car that had been declared a salvage vehicle in Colorado. If you wish to trade in a car there, you must attest that it does not have a salvage title in this or any other state. However, they will Sell YOU that kind of vehicle. Demand both a carfax and an autocheck. It's now apparent that autocheck leaves out info. Justin Bunte, sales manager, admits the car never should have been on their lot. However, I am being offered an insulting buyback price that will leave me hosed by more 7K. It's very disappointing to know that a dealership of this size would risk its reputation over that amount of money. read more

This is the worst dealership in town. Their sales person James Perkins is borderline racist and prejudice. He lies me and my girl had several appointments he was not there when we went to view the vehicles and his manager ratted him out that it was his day off. He lied over and over. We had another appointment but decided to come early spoke to someone else but didn't tell him we spoke to James Perkins previously. He told us the vehicle was in Avon. What was his excuse going to be if we had come later that afternoon. It was very apparent that he didn't like African American Customers. So we went and Bought a car at Bill Estes Chevrolet and got a Much better deal with them. Great price, low 4.00% rate and Bill Estes even threw in a Warranty with it. Rich Winkle was my salesperson. He was flat out incompetent. My wife an I don't get much time to do this type of thing, so when we had a day, we wanted to take advantage. I've bought several cars from Skillman, so I wasn't messing around. I walked in and told him "we need to buy 2 vehicles and we are paying cash." Sounds simple enough, right? It took hours and we only got 1 car. And that wasn't the worst part. I bought the "powertrain warranty," because it "covers everything to do with the engine and tranny". Then a few months later when it had a serious tranny issue, they refused to honor it and charged me $1800. We are finally getting around to buying that other car, and I'm damn sure not doing it here. read more

I bought my latest car, a Hyundai Elantra Touring, from Skillman Westside. The salesman, Tony Arujo, was patient and thorough. He did a good job of describing features on that model and on the comparable Mazdas and Kias that Skillman sells. He also backed me up on a last-minute attempt by the management to get a few extra dollars out of me. A good buying experience. Like most car purchases, you have to set your price and hold your ground. But that's the game. read more

I purchased my new Mazda from Ray Skillman in Indy. I actually live in Cincinnati, but couldn't find the car/deal in my area. The sales team couldn't have been better. Drew Levy, Austin Norman and product specialist Caleb Hafley took great care of us throughout the experience. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for the finance person. If you are placed with Billy Moore, read and re-read any documents put in front of you. Billy wanted us to "sign" the paperwork quickly but we decided to go over the document line by line to make sure it was what we had discussed over the phone with sales. We found so many "up-charges" that were never discussed. I think we were able to have the contract torn up and re-printed four times at a savings of around $800.00. We also told him our sales tax was 6.75 over and over again. I just went to transfer the title and had to pay $449.96 because they didn't charge me the correct amount of taxes for my county. I was very disappointed with the finance person. I actually asked "Do people actually just sign and pay this stuff" and his answer was YES. read more

Pricing and availability on the model I wanted. Concerned about the way everything added up when they made the deal. Bought the car anyways and I would go back to buy again, but I hope the experience is just a little different. Tried to sell me extended warranty and Ziebart which we declined (but now I wish I had bought the Ziebart). Overall it was a pleasant but long process to get the deal done. In all fairness we did get there after 4pm so that may have had something to do with that. We had to drive over an hour to get there, but it was worth it. Enough said. read more

This place is a total joke. Went there after 3 weeks, they told me all I needed was to bring in my paycheck stubs to show I was working. When I went back and gave them my paycheck stubs then they shoved me over to buy here and pay here. No explanation was given to me - so I went with it since my credit wasn't great. Then the buy here pay here manager - who acted like he was in the mafia - told me I cudnt he helped - so I left and started walking home and didn't offer me a ride back to my house at least since I used Uber to get to their sales lot. Worst lot and experience I've ever had - just as long as you can lay down thousands of dollars in cash in front of them - then they are the nicest people in the world - if you don't have large amounts of $$$$ on you - to put down - then they shove you over to the mafia boss in buy here and pay here department . I wudnt recommend this place to nobody - if you don't have a 830 credit score or $$$$$$$$ to lay down in from of them - don't water ur time - just go to another buy here pay here place like oak motors, drive time or jd byrider. He spent hours Wednesday and Thursday looking at different options with me because I was just so indecisive. He was not pushy at all and answered all questions I had with great knowledge. I recently bought a new Hyundai here. The salesmen were nice but the guy I dealt with sure didn't have his stuff together. It was like he didn't know what to do or what information he needed from me. This led to being hounded and having to deal with him again and again after the sale was already finalized. My main problem, however, is with their service and parts department. These guys are incompetent. Ordered a touch-up paint pen from them and after they went and wrote down my VIN themselves, they still ordered the wrong color black. Thank God I was wise enough to double check that the color codes matched or I'd have a wrong colored spot on a 2-month old car. Also, the service center is full of shysters so don't let them hustle you like they did me. I'd recommend getting a car here because most of the dealers seemed nice but I would not recommend getting it serviced here. They will just scam you out of money for things that don't need to be replaced. read more

Visiting from out of town and tire pressure light came on - new car and I freaked out. Guess it would have been nice if I had read the manual. Got in fast and they put air in my tires and explained the amount of tire pressure. Off I went, thankful that air was all I needed. I bought a vehicle from Ray Skillman on the westside over two years ago. It was in the shop three times and each time it came back, I had to call them back and tell them the issue still existed. The only reason I brought it back there was because it was under warranty. My son is a mechanic and he found these problems quickly, however, Ray Skillman said they needed at least six hours to look it over and then they didn't find half the problems my son did. The car had to be aligned after supposedly they fixed it, however, they couldn't give us the specs on the alignment. Hmmmm? Something to hide perhaps? My son called and wanted to talk to the mechanic and they wouldn't allow it. Never again will I buy a car from that dealerhip. read more

I will absolutely never recommend anyone to this dealership. I met with a man named Ken. He was very rude. He acted very annoyed as if he had better things to do than to help me. He was just helping me while my original salesman was with another couple. I was unsure if i was able to get a loan. Seeing how it was my first loan i have ever had. I had pre checked my credit score with my bank, also got basic information from them as to what i can afford. They lied to me about my credit score telling me exactly 100 points less than what my real score was. He told me that I would never be able to get a loan. I told him that he is incorrect and that score was inaccurate seeing how i had documentation showing it was different. He laughed at me and said "well i dont know what to tell you, this is the number we pulled". I felt very embarrassed. Just because I am a young woman doesn't mean I do not know what I am doing. It was clear to me that he did not want to take the time to help me. Unfortunately he lost a sale for the original salesman i was speaking with. I took my business down the road. Not only did they help me, work with me, but they put me in a new car. I was lied to at Ray Skillman and i will absolutely tell everyone what they did and never, ever, recommend anyone to them. Horrible customer service, and very rude staff. You should try to help your customers not put them down and make them feel belittled just because you are not making the "cut" or commission they want off of me. read more
