Arrogant and unprofessional. My car had a bump when hitting an uneven sidewalk and the bumper was loose. I stopped by Vienna Auto Body but the wait was a month. So I stopped by Ray's Auto. They looked at it and gave me an estimate and an appointment. I asked them if they can do something quick to attach it, and the mechanic did it in a couple minutes, which I really appreciated. Before I left, the lady asked that I come back to give a tip and she said it is fixed and I don't need to come back for the appointment. Since the bumper is not fully aligned. I told her that I intend to keep the appointment, and did not think too much of the tip. On appointment day, she told me that I need to find someone else to fix the car because I did not tip. She remembered my name and eerily smiled and showed me the door. I am not sure if she always expects a tip for everything they do, or I am a minority, or the fix was not a high ticket item. They are rude and unprofessional. They need to have a big sign in their office that says "All services require TIPS or you maybe denied service". read more

My Jeep had scratches in the roll bar and on back driver and passenger side while my wife's Jeep had scratches on the rear passenger side wheel panel. Each Jeep was fixed perfectly and the team at Ray's was extremely friendly and explained the process. Additionally they noticed my wife's inspection sticker had expired and took it for inspection. The work was excellent and the restoration makes both Jeeps look brand new. We were very impressed with Jennifer and the entire team going the extra mile for the inspection and buffing out a couple of other spots that noticed for free. I had the opportunity to visit Ray's Auto Body after a very expensive run-in with a deer, which left the hood of my car banged up. On first glance, I thought I was pretty lucky, since somehow, the only part of the car that was damaged was the hood (not even a broken light). But somehow, it still ended up costing $3500 to repair. First, it took 6 weeks to get my car back. They weren't taking appointments until 4 weeks later! Then, the repair was only supposed to take a few days, but ended up taking a week and a half. Of course, they never called to tell me that there would be a delay - they waited until I called them to ask if the car would be ready to pick up as scheduled. (My caveat is that this is the first time going to an auto body shop, so maybe this is normal for northern Virginia - I just don't know.) Second, when I brought in the car, I got a quote of $1300, which I was fine with, although I ended up submitting through insurance. When I called to check up on the car's status, I found out the price had gone up to $3500. We never received a phone call letting us know - they just called the insurance company directly. I'd think that for such a large price change, we'd have at least gotten a call. After all of that, they did a very nice job on the car, and even vacuumed the car and touched up an old spot in the back for free. So other than some misunderstandings, the job itself was done very well. read more

I have a 32 year old car which developed a rust spot. The online estimate I got from Maaco of $1100 quickly climbed to more than $5000 when I showed up. A friend recommended Ray's Auto Body, so I stopped by. They ordered an original replacement fender, even called to apologize when they found out it was $50 more than I was originally quoted. I took the car in after hours on a Tuesday, leaving the key in the drop box. By Thursday, it was ready - and it looked amazing. They could not have been nicer or more professional. Ray's has taken care of all my family's automotive uh-ohs for at least 20 years! They are meticulous in their work and very fair in their pricing. They'll often do extra little touch-ups elsewhere on the car at no charge while fixing the bigger damage. And they're fast, too! The only time I've ever gone elsewhere was when the at-fault driver's insurance company insisted on using their preferred body shop. The end product was okay but the service was not nearly of the caliber I've experienced at Ray's. read more

My mom and I have gone to Ray's for approximately a decade and have seen their product go from great to sub-par. I was hit by a van on I-495 and decided to take my car to Ray's, based on good past experience. My car was supposed to be in the shop for roughly 4 days, I got it back in 9. That was disappointment #1. My brand new bumper is starting to detach from the frame, only 2 months after installation. My right headlight got paint on it; how hard is it to cover the headlight before painting!?! The HUB assembly on the left side was replaced; I discovered that they put the old rotor back on with stripped screws. When I went to replace the rotor, I had to drill-out the screws in order to get the old rotor off. I will be going to Ray's soon to discuss these issues with them. This was the site of the worst auto body shop experience I have ever had. I was the middle car of a three-car fender-bender this past summer (not my fault). I was sent to Ray's Auto Body by the insurance adjuster of the at-fault driver's insurance company. The repair job should have taken about a week. When my car was finally "ready" two weeks later, I was asked initially to pay for the repair--even though the responsible driver's insurance had accepted liability and agreed to pay. Once this matter was settled, I discovered that the shop had cracked my windshield. To my shock, Ray's Auto Body refused to accept responsibility for the crack, even though it was rather large, obvious, and brand-new. Only after my own insurance adjuster got aggressive did the shop agree to replace the glass. After I picked up my car, it became clear that Ray's had used after-market sheet metal in violation of the insurance estimate. My insurance rep had to once again talk tough to get Ray's to do the right thing. About five weeks after the minor accident, I finally got my car back. I understand Ray's had a good reputation some years ago. Not now. Avoid this place like the plague. You cannot count on your car being repaired properly here. read more

I have been taking our vehicles to Ray's for nearly 10 years and have always been impressed with the level of service, attention to detail and quality of work they do. A few years ago I brought my wife's Camry in for a rear bumper repair. As we were doing the walk through after the car was done Jennifer from Ray's noticed that they hadn't put the Toyota sticker on the new bumper, this is a small sticker that Toyota puts on top of the bumper that is mostly visible when the trunk lid is up. I certainly didn't notice it but she did right away. She apologized and asked if I could wait for a bit so they could put the sticker on which they did immediately. Many others would have not noticed the sticker, and probably even more would have waited to see if I noticed it. That is the level of detail you want. They also have a great relationship with Enterprise on Greensboro and Ray's will let them know as soon as you arrive that you are there so they can drop a car off to you. Additionally, once you are done with your rental you can leave it with Ray's, you drive away with your vehicle and Enterprise will pick it up from them later. That's far better than getting ferried all over Tyson's Corner with the traffic to pick up and drop off a rental car, ain't nobody got time for that as the song says. Finally while I was dropping my Dodge off today there was a gentleman who needed to pay out of pocket for some significant front end repairs who needed to leave so he was not late for work, the Ray's staff were actively working on getting him the best price on the parts (used and aftermarket) to keep his costs down after he left. There is absolutely NO REASON for anyone to take their vehicle anywhere else to have auto body work done. read more

They absolutely suck. Ok? Ripoffs. Their paint job blistered and bubbled on the inside of a door. On the exterior, I had them repaint 3 times to get rid of embedded debris in the finish. They simply did not have the talent to do so. And they lie about the work they will do and how they will do it. If you take your car there, scrutinize and inspect every line item on your claim estimate and confront them when they try to get away with something, and let your insurer know especially. This possibly was the worst place I've ever been to in terms of both execution of a repair job & customer service. I wish Yelp had the option for NEGATIVE stars and I would have given Ray's a MINUS 5 rating. I would have to spend the next 3 days writing to be full disclosure in how terrible they are. I was referred to this place by Allstate because it was a "preferred" shop of theirs. Ray's was a nightmare from the beginning starting with when they wanted to charge me for a reflector for $16 when they were going to receive approx $8000 from my claim. In addition to that, below are only SOME of the other problems. 1. They left matted gum in my floor mat - I'm a reasonable guy but leaving matted gum on my mat is flat out disrespectful & leads me to believe that they are careless & don't care 2. They attempted to give me back my car with the check engine light on 3. They gave me my car back with the tire sensor messed up where it would come on multiple times when driving 4. You can blatantly see where the collision occurred on the passenger side of my BMW M3 as they did an awful job of fixing the place on the door that was dented and the paint was scraped off. 5. My window: before my collision, my window was working perfectly, however, when I got my car back the window stopped working. They said that the regulator went out & it was just normal wear & tear; Doug, the manager, said that there was no damage to the door on the passenger side and that's the only way that the collision would've affected the window; this was a complete lie...the left front end/passenger side was precisely where the collision occurred; in fact, you can see where Ray's did a poor job of attempting to fix my door on the passengers side as I state above. I told them that the only other way that it would've been damaged is if they did something to the window during the repair. I've now had to take time out of my work schedule to get this issued resolved as they are now attempting to charge me $443 for something that should either be covered under my Allstate claim or something that Ray's damaged! DO NOT GO HERE. If you are with Allstate, the shops they send you to are typically crappy because the insurance company gets the best deal. My Allstate insurance agent even told me NOT to go to Ray's but I didn't listen because Allstate makes you jump thru hoops to go to a location of your choice...however, it's well worth the extra hassle to get the job done right. Go to Wagon Works in Alexandria, but if nothing else avoid the clowns Doug & Marcus at Ray's!!!!!!!!!!!!! I drive an M3 so this is even more frustrating as I want my car to be in pristine condition...Hopefully I won't have to pay the $443 as I've reported them to Allstate & the Better Business Bureau. read more

This review is long overdue. Last August, I t-boned a Mini-Cooper in my 94 Camry. The officer assigned her the blame as I had the right-of-way. Her insurance company accepted responsibility and offered me a choice: accept a check or have the car fixed. Since I just paid it off, I didn't want to get into another car payment for a used car. Allstate recommended Rays Auto Body. The Camry was towed over that day ( a Friday evening). I called on Monday and spoke with the gentleman there assigned to my car. He said that due to the other cars he had ahead of me, it would take him a few days to get to mine. I completely understood as I was a Mortgage Processor at the time and had given that same explanation many times myself to loan applicants. A few days later, he calls me and let's me know that since the car was borderline totalled, it will take sometime to fix (I.e. 2-3 weeks). Since All state was paying for my rental car (a Pimp-@zz 2013 Dodge Charger which I did NOT want to give back. :-), I was fine with 2-3 weeks. It ended up taking 5 weeks as they wanted to make sure there were no bugs, rattles, or quirks with the finished product. They even paid the 5th week of my rental car since Allstate would only go up to 30 days. When I got my Camry back it literally looked brand new. I was amazed at the workmanship. I took possession of my Camry and returned the Charger (sniff sniff.) Overall, they were extremely professional and their work was stellar. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because I expect an auto body shop to be able to more accurately estimate time of completion since this is their expertise. I went to Ray's to replace a front engine splash shield on my Honda Odyssey as a walk-in. Jeff welcomed me and immediately went to my car and performed an estimate for the repair. They ordered the parts and it came in to the store in less than a week. I set up an appointment and they completed the repair in less than 2 hours. Even though it was a minor repair, I appreciate how professional and courteous Jeff and the folks in the front office were. I had heard good reports about Ray's from others and they lived up to the reputation. Even though I did not request it, the repair person even taped up my front bumper that had cosmetic damage at no charge. read more

Be very careful. After two attempts, this body shop failed to replace a headlight properly, moisture developed in 2 attempts. Then, the marker light they replaced fell out somewhere while driving. After finally being fed up with being taken advantage of at another body shop where they were making false claims about problems with my car, someone referred me to Ray's and I will never go anywhere else. My Lexus GS430 was sideswiped and I took the car to Ray's since they had done work on a Supra I had about 6 years ago. I'll have to agree with the other reviewer ... back then they were good NOW THEY SUCK ! 1. They said they dealt with my insurance ... they don't. So my insurance did not send Adjusters there regularly. This means the job took about TWICE as long because they were constantly waiting for the adjuster to come and approve additional work. 2. I asked 3 times if they were just going to hang a new door, they insisted they were going to replace the door skin ... REPEATEDLY. When I got the car back I found out they hung a junkyard door since one of my windows was no longer custom tinted ... nice. 3. They said they were going to replace a $1200 HID headlight but somehow the new one had a different color reflector, a cloudy lens, a burnt out HID bulb and a faulty ballast ... musta gotten it @ the same junkyard the door came from. These reasons are why they are no longer a trusted shop by Insurance companies ... they scam the customer and insurance companies to pay for Ray's effiing big Mercedes Sport Coupe ... yeah I saw the "owner" pull up in it while I was waiting to pick up my car. The first thing you experience when you walk in the door is a sincere greeting. My estimator (Kevin) was polite and not pushy. I suspect that he has been associated with Ray's Auto for a while...he had his own business card. Kevin knew that the repair was coming out of my pocket and offered several phases of repairs. When I showed them a competitor's estimate he readily matched it and even gave me the Angie's List 5% coupon at the end. Of particular note, after the job was completed, several warning lights came on a few days later. Kevin said drop it by the shop and he would look at it in case they might have missed hooking up a harness. After close inspection no loose wires found. Kevin suggested we ask his neighbor, Country Transmissions, to hook up a code reader. Country Transmission found the problem...gas cap evaporator loose. They reset the warning lights, and best of all...no charge. It is nice to know there are vendors out there that still try to provide good customer service even when they don't get paid. read more

This shop seems to do quality work, but the customer communication is not so good. I dropped my car off on Monday morning and was told the car would be done by cob Wednesday; I specifically left my work number as the contact. Nobody called me on Wednesday so when I called the shop I was told the car would actually be finished on Thursday. OK, Thursday afternoon rolls around and nobody calls me at work. I called the shop at 4:30 and got an answering machine and left a message. No reply. When I called again at 5 they told me that yes, the car is ready, they had left a message at my home number. I work in DC and it takes at least an hour to get out to Vienna, so I had to scramble to find out the status of the car. And they close at 6 so that's why I was panicking to try to find out the status--why can't the shop reach out more to the customer? Not sure I will use this place again---there are lots of body shops in the Tysons/Vienna area. read more

I had terrible experience with customer service. For no reason Jennifer humiliated me in front of her stuff just because her client that I have to pay for was her friend. This company is in service business and have to respect people no matter what and stay out of any dispute. In our conversation Jennifer have said that my neighbor and she were friends and that their children went together to Lacrosse training. She gave me discount of 5% demanding payment in cash. When I provided release letter, which my neighbor had to sign and that was not related to the Ray's anybody , Jennifer laughed at me in front to her stuff. I called because for about two weeks Jennifer could not provide dates for repairs for which I had to prepare my funds. In general, during the time of dealing with this service Jennifer in many occasions was pretty harsh. I felt not comfortable and therefore want to share my experience. Great service and excellent body work. I have taken my car here twice and my husband and son have also had their cars repaired here. I have an old car and they were able to blend the paint to match perfectly. They dealt with the insurance for us. The last repair I had done was a front end crash and a week after I had my car back the headlight cover fell off. I returned a good time later and explained the situation and they replaced the light as if it had been part of the original repair without charge. Marcus in the office took great care of us and was very professional and friendly. Repairs were completed in a reasonable time. My car looks great. I bought a new sport hood, hood scoop insert, and grill for my 2012 Toyota Tacoma that I needed to get painted and installed since it's way too cold out to install it my self. I took it to Ray's and they painted the parts in a couple of days and installed everything for me Friday morning right before the Blizzard in less than and hour.
