Outrage is the only word for a person or place who would take advantage of a disabled veteran with PTSD from Vietnam on fixed income by soliciting him to complete an application with him online when he is not computer literate requiring a deposit of $925 a month and refusal to return said deposit claiming he didn't ask for it within 3 days. He was ill and hospitalized thus the delay in attempting to have funds returned. My brother in law was fully taken advantage of, did not complete the computer lease sent to me with any family member as insinuated, doesn't own a computer and thought he would have his security deposit of $925 returned when he found a place closer to his daughter. My sister is disabled and their income is sparse, to say the least. Ben is a thief and scumbag to not be willing to return the funds after numerous attempts. Keeping the same apartment as available to seize the next sucker and take their money as well. Documents were not completed with anyone in the family as we verified, and had to have been with Ben or office manager. When my brother in-law attempted to contact them for a refund, messages were ignored and not returned, thus giving them time to avoid a refund. The next excuse was person my brother in law worked with no longer worked there and they would have to look into the processing of his check. Once again giving them ample time to claim 3 day waiting period was exceeded. I am shocked that with these reviews no further action has been taken against this company and Ben. I have reported it to Elder Abuse, Veterans Administration and will continue even after the time that has passed to be sure others are not out $925 as my sister and brother in law are as a result of unethical practices and preying on the disabled and elderly. read more

Yikes, where to start.... RES managers my property in Port Washington. Every October our apartment, our front door, windows, stairs, garage are taken over by box elder bugs. It is to the point where you can't go in or our of your apt with our getting a few stuck in your hair. (I will try to post a picture, but I am not too suave with technology) I should say that this is only an issue in late Sept and Oct, however during those months it is a huge issue. I called to ask if they were going to treat these bugs or have a solution and the property manager said she was unaware of a bug issue and that we don't have bugs problems. Mean while I spoke with 3 of my neighbors and they have all called about the issue. Snow removal is hit or miss, My car has gotten stuck before and took a long time of shoveling in the parking lot. They also didn't plow out parking lot after a snow storm and force my older neighbor (who's husband is in a wheelchair) to shovel her own way out in order to take her husband to a Dr. apt. I spoke with Ben who is the acting manager and had terrible customer service. Ben sent a notification to my apt. that my wife and I were getting evicted because we didn't pay our rent on time. I check with my bank and the rent check was cashed (by Ben). I called Ben so we can get to the bottom of the issue on why he sent a letter to my house that we were getting evicted. Ben said he now "located" my check and disregard the letter, but he made it very clear that he didn't owe my wife or I an apology. Ben had an attitude when I spoke with him and he made it clear that he has over 1,000 tenants and that is part of doing business. I believe my apt. complex was built in the late 80's or early 90's. The kitchen has not been updated since. Very outdated! The management will let you leave here for 2 years with a fixed rent, then after that, management will raise your rent every year. The rent is high, but being in Port, it is one of the only complexes that allows dogs (with an additional fee). I wont be all negative here, the maintenance man that comes around is awesome and pretty prompt on fixing things. In my apt. I was happy with the amount of space and natural lights coming in. Aside from management being rude, they're inconsistent and aren't well versed in telling the truth. When you do leave, don't count on getting your security deposit back, regardless of how you've left it. Expect to be charged more than your deposit, and outrageous prices at that. Half of the things they say they are charging you to fix won't actually be fixed for the next tenant. Their so-called maintenance guy was not only useless, but had unpredictable volatile behavior. Police have been called numerous times to handle situations regarding said maintenance man, and one of the more recent times was due to him threatening to run over a neighbor's young child. He makes all sorts of threats and says things to children he shouldn't, or things he should take up with the adult tenant. When they did respond to maintenance needs, they essentially put a bandaid over big issues rather than fixing the root cause. Pretty much everything they install in their units are cheap, but they'll charge you 3-5 times the actual price. If I could give a negative score I would. I have lived here twenty years at Prairie Wind Townhomes in Hartland. Robert and Alice Schmidling were the nicest owners ever. Then Real Estate Specialists took over and it has been the worst company ever. They never fix anything and if the do, they don't fix it, they cover pipes leaking water through the ceiling by spackling the ceiling and 10 years later it leaks through the ceiling again. They change a water heater and leave the old wet rotting one in your basement. For 10 years they had so called "maintenance" people that mowed the lawns when they felt like it when the grass was 4 and sometimes 6 inches high, never shoveled sidewalks or salted unless you fell and threatened a lawsuit. The first property manager Tricia was rude, but Ben Kotka is the most unprofessional asshole on the planet and should not be allowed in a customer service field EVER! Dale Maas, the owner, used to be nice, but now he is the same as Ben. They never return your phone calls and when they do they don't communicate with each other. DO NOT RENT FROM ANY OF THEIR PROPERTIES IF YOUR WANT TO BE CHARGED FOR THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T BE. They just towed my car and my son's car from the additional visitors parking spaces that they gave us permission to park in during the winter as long as we move our cars because there are no more extra spaces to rent and Hartland does not allow street parking in the winter. And still after a week of phone messages and calls, they have refused to return phone calls. Contacting the BBB and a lawyer. All the negative comments in these posts are correct!! I have lived in my apartment for over a YEAR now, and not been able to contact ben and talk to him directly once. Not once...Very unprofessional, and quite frankly rude. I have emailed him, left messages and no response what-so-ever. Terrible manager; or whatever he calls himself. If you plan to rent from RES, plan on fixing things yourself, and when a problem arises, don't expect anything from this guy but a few false late fees. read more

THEY WILL STEAL YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT AND MORE!!! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!! A friend and I had rented from the Hunter Glen Apartments in a Johnson Creek, WI. We only lived there for one year. The unit had fresh carpet and new counter tops and wood floors. Upon moving out everything was in perfect condition. We paid rent on time every month and were ideal tenants. My roommate had moved out with a few months left in the lease and I had emailed the manager BEN KOSTKA to let him know and that we would not be re signing the lease, well over the 60 day notice requirement. I was told in a phone call with Ben the email notice would be honored and my deposit would be fully returned so I didn't mail one. He was extremely rude and unprofessional and hung up on my calls twice. Upon move out time I got a letter that they were not only taking our full security deposit, but trying to charge two extra months rent for not mailing in a notice. BEN KOSTKA IS A THIEF AS WELL AS THE OWNER!! I called to speak directly with the owner after I got the letter and he was also very rude. He said he would talk to Ben and call me back. Never got a call back and after breaching our multiple times with no answer I gave up. read more

RES has been nothing but completely unhelpful in resolving ANY situation that arises within our rented condo. The issues have been numerous and mostly go unresolved. Ben, the property manager, ignores phone calls and messages left for him regarding multiple gas leaks, thefts in the building, broken bathtubs, mold in the basement, and the list can go on and on. When you do finally get a hold of him, it's with a bad attitude and usually another several days before anything gets resolved. The problems with this company started from day 1 of moving in, and have never become better. Every window in our condo is so inefficient that they require plastic in the winters to even be remotely tolerable and if the wind blows really hard, our guest bedroom window will get blown straight out of the frame! The "central air" conditioning can barely keep up (even after several phone calls to RES regarding this), everything in our storage locker is ruined due to a white mold blanketing everything, and their unresponsiveness and attitude of being "bothered" by calling about major issues is more than irritating. I would never, ever recommend this company to a person searching for a rental property. The upkeep on the building is absolutely awful, with siding so rotten it falls apart when you touch it, leaking roofs and ineffective gutter systems that flood patios/porches and the basement. It's almost like this company could care less about the maintenance and living conditions of their tenants, even when we're paying about average to live there. read more
