Was NOT looking forward to having to renew my DL or going to the DMV, needed my Real ID too - usually it is the WORST experience, takes hours of your time and you're faced with grumpy workers. I put this off until the last possible minute because it is the last thing I want to do, but finally decided yesterday was the day to get it over with. So pleasantly surprised! Walked in - areas are roped off in sections. First section is the Check-in area. There was no line and I was able to see a customer care representative immediately - he was really nice - I was shocked but going with it. The key is to come prepared with necessary proof of identity and proof of residence, my DL was expired so I brought my expired DL, birth certificate, voters registration card and a current bank statement to prove my residence, so I was good. I was sent to the next roped off section where there was no waiting, I had to get my picture taken - that took about 1 min, the guy was really nice again and he's like "it's a good picture" I was sent to the next roped section where again I was able to sit down immediately at this station with another pleasant gentleman where my documents were scanned in, I answered like 7 questions and I took a quick vision test. In about 5 - 7 minutes I was sent to the next section, the cashier - there were 2 people in front of me but this still was super quick maybe 2 - 3 minutes - paid $30 for my Real ID and DL renewal - the Real ID is only $6. Sent next to a 'star' spot to wait until my name was called - maybe 30 seconds - during this time I noticed there was this nice French music playing from a speaker on the table in front of me and I said to the lady waiting alongside me....this music doesn't really go with the no frills gov't white paint and concrete environment...but honestly I think this office was really trying to make our customer experience a better one and I can appreciate that effort. I waited for my name to be called, again it was 30 seconds - where I received my temporary DL and was told by another pleasant worker that I would get my Real ID in the mail in about 2 weeks and I was outta there! All-in-all it was about a 15 - 20 min process but because it moved along so quickly it didn't even seem like that long. This facility is super efficient, everyone was really pleasant to work with and I am shocked to say that going to the DMV was painless and a good experience. Wow this is probably the most streamlined experience I have had at a DMV! And the best customer service at a DMV too! I came to renew my REAL ID license on a busy Friday afternoon. The line was very long but it moved along, and there were staff positioned along the line to help answer questions, announce the paperwork requirements, and generally facilitate so that the line kept moving and everyone was ready or redirected by the time they reached the front of the first line. Keep in mind they have specific services here which are more limited than other DMVs. They mostly focus on IDs. When you reach the front of the first line, they will quickly check you have your correct documents then send you to the photo station where you take your photo. Then they tell you follow the arrows through a different line. I don't recommend trying to walk under the ropes/belts that divide up the line because you might end up in the wrong line! This next part is where they actually process your paperwork, ask you some questions, and check your vision. If you pass they send you to the cashier line, pay your fee, then they have you wait on the side for the temporary ID to print. The first line takes the longest and from there things move pretty efficiently. All the staff were pretty helpful and pleasant and friendly! Generally chill vibes. From start to finish it took just under 45 minutes. I bet it would be faster on a weekday or when it's not the Friday before Easter! read more

It is extremely disappointing to witness such poor public service from city employees who earn competitive wages, receive strong benefits, and are offered performance incentives. With those privileges should come professionalism and accountability. Unfortunately, this was not reflected during my visit. The office environment was unclean, and several associates appeared neither presentable nor professional. More concerning was the lack of basic customer service skills. It gives the impression that these standards may not be emphasized by management either. Positions of service come with responsibility. Just as doors can open, they can also close. Humility and respect go a long way. Life can change in an instant, and I truly hope this office chooses to lead with integrity, professionalism, and compassion going forward. i wld highlight names had most wore badges properly displayed ! read more

Is it fancy or comfortable? No. Are the folk working there polite? Well, 4 out of the 5 people I interacted with were very polite. The remaining one was rude, rushed, managed to get my address wrong despite the two required pieces of info and then was snippy about it, and wandered off while I was still sitting in front of her to gossip loudly about another coworker for a while before she came back. However, all that said: despite a long line I was in at 7:30 and out by 8:45, which was MUCH better than expected for a walk-in location, so everything was running very efficiently. read more

This is the Real ID Supercenter downtown and while I've heard that the line is consistently long, you don't need an appointment like many of the Illinois DMVs and they are very organized. They have someone at the door making sure you have the documents you need and another one inside, so you don't waste your time. My daughter needed to renew her DL and we both wanted the Real ID and despite the line, we were in and out in about 90 minutes. No pictures were allowed or I would have taken some. This is a very efficient place even if it's not beautiful or modern or comfortable. But it has what you need to get your official IDs. Mainly it's just for the Real ID and both non drivers license and drivers license Real ID. The one w the good start you had to get since May 2025 to travel. The security guard today on July 29, 2025 was very sweet and kind. I really appreciate him. The staff were also friendly and kind And answer my questions Wow, a place in Chicago that does not require an appointment and opens at 7:30 in the morning during weekdays. if you wanna get a non drivers license Real ID or get your drivers license Real ID you don't have to make an appointment. you get a temporary ID the same day and they will send you the actual ID in the mail. It is accessible by walking train and bus, and the CTA line is directly basically next to the supercenter where you can get the CTA subway or El lines to. Clark/Lake. A couple weeks ago, I posted a synopsis of a truly wretched experience at the "new" Naperville DMV, at 1771 Diehl Road. I grew tired of the suburban experience, and decided to heigh myself downtown, where civilization dwells. I'm glad I did. This Facility was night-and-day different than Naperville, and made my Read ID Experience easy. Let me count the ways: * All of the employees were caffeinated and friendly, even at 4:00 PM. They were awake, alert, and each of them seemed to really CARE about assisting their Customers. They all seemed to WANT me to get a Real ID. I had to come back once, because whatever moron our Clown Secretary of State assigned to write the "rules" was inept (as is Alexi) in the science of human discourse. But face-to-face with the employees there, they explained all the nuances to me, and armed me with what I needed for a seamless return visit. * The Security LEO's greeted me at the door with a smile ind initial Instructions as to which Line to enter. "No Reservations? That's Okay, c'mon in!!" * The lines, while medium length, moved briskly and efficiently. * My "interviewer" was efficient and fast. Perhaps a bit robotic, but she's been doing this for months, and she was never unkind. There were A LOT of interviewers - about 20, I think. * I was in and out in 30 minutes, all told! A far cry from that muck-pit in Naperville, where they didn't really want to help me, and refused to give me a Reservation. As I alluded in my Naperville review, Alexi Giulianis never visited Naperville. He *may* have visited Clark St... but I still will never vote or support him in any way. Jessie White would never allow the travesty of Naperville, and my enmity is slow to temper. BUT - if you need a Real ID this year, without a cardiac event, I recommend you go downtown. Got my real ID done today and everything was done in 90 minutes. Very fast and efficient and highly recommended!

All of the employees are efficient, friendly, and professional. I stood in line, on a Friday morning/afternoon, and just listened to customers whining and complaining...about going to the Supercenter...on a Friday...in the morning, and thought to myself, 'These employees are saints.' Everyone tried really hard to help people by reminding them about the correct documents required, directing people to the correct lines, accommodating the many questions asked, every employee still smiled and joked with the customers...who whined and complained...on a Friday...in the morning. It was a fascinating spectacle. I have so much respect for everyone who works at this facility. Good job! read more

Terrible. Got there at 7:30 am since I could not get an appointment at 125 W. Monroe Street. I waited over 2 hours for just a new picture and a vision test. Then when they gave me a temp license, the expiration date is in 2 months. My license expires Oct. 2, and they want me to renew it again by Nov. 27. Guess what? I'm having surgery that week so I will be totally unavailable. So I had to get a real ID in July, go back and get a renewal before Oct. 2, and now I have to go back again in November to get it renewed again. WTF. Who does this? read more

This is a blessing and a curse. They move at a decent pace. Convenient central location. But... be prepared to stand outside. No public restroom. Inhumane treatment imho. Staff can be less than friendly. Once inside they periodically announce what documents you need. Would be nice if they repeated outside for the folks waiting to get in. Shame to wait and then hear you don't have all the right documents. Bring every piece of documentation printed that you think you will need. Some key ones can include birth certificate, social security card, W2 or 1099, state ID, drivers license, passport, voter registration card, two pieces of mail with correct address on it like bank statement, credit card statement, or utility or cell phone bill. I say just bring it all to be sure! read more

We came here - for my boyfriend's license renewal - a week before REAL ID was taking place - and def recommend. The folks who worked there were mostly affable and helpful - and it was clean enough (brand new) - I would go back. As a dmv experience - cannot complain. The lines were small - and the historic entitlement attitude for sloppy ineptitude seems not to have a place here. Hope it lasts! read more

I'm not saying all of the staff are rude, but there are a few people at this Real ID office who are extremely uncooperative and disrespectful. They don't seem willing to help or explain things properly, which makes the whole process stressful. I hope management looks into this and provides better training for those staff members. read more

The pace at which employees work is unacceptable. 2 hrs in line to get vision test after 1 hr to show my docs and take a picture. There were not that many people in the place. Also, as with most if not all government workers, the aggressive behaviors are unwarranted. We pay for this with our tax dollars - the employees act like they are doing us a favor. read more

Everything was well organized. I got there at 7:30 am and all the lines flowed effortlessly. I was out of there by 8:15am.

The facility was clean and efficient. All staff members I interacted with were professional and polite. They did a great job job making sure people were in the right place. I completed everything in just over an hour! read more

In the past, I've seen the lines when they wrap around the building, so my expectations were low. But this was the best experience I've had at a DMV type center--SO efficient and everyone was really nice! In and out in an hour and a half. Highly recommend! read more
