It's hard to believe there are no reviews for this church! It's such a fascinating focal point in…read morethe heart of "downtown" Chelan. You can't miss it: it's an old, seriously old, but amazingly well-preserved log cabin-like structure, constructed from massive, sturdy logs, with stained glass and all. It's quite beautiful and is testimount to the skilled construction skills of the local pioneers and the substantial local materials (Douglas fir logs, granite, etc) of the late 1800's. Copying from the brochure: "St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will soon celebrate its 100th birthday. It is believed to be the oldest log church in the state that can claim an uninterrupted record of worship service by a single congregation. The church building remains very much the same today as it was when constructed nearly a century ago. In 1992, the church was recognized for its historical significance by being selected to the National Registry of Historic Places". This brochure must be a bit outdated, as the church advertises that it has been "serving the Lord without interruption since 1998". So the building is actually over 100 years old (if my math is correct!). It really is a cool building. If one is interested in the history of pioneers, or log cabins and other early log structures/architecture, or church history, you should check out this historic small church. They still hold worship services here on Sunday mornings at 10am, if one is so inclined. Our family walked the grounds and through the church and admired the solid and precise notching of all these huge logs together, fitting into each other like perfect jigsaw pieces. Amazing how the edifice has held up so well over all these years. It's definately worth checking out.
