We used the Junior year assessment, Senior year submission, and ACT testing preparation services. The process was clearly communicated, organized, with timelines established and follow up from DowEdu was exceptional. Personally, I was grateful to not have to figure out the timeline and many many deadlines or argue with my son to follow up and stay on track. With two UC degrees, I thought I was pretty smart until I tried to help my kids apply to colleges, and then apply for Financial Aid. Was I wrong!!!! They filled the void of both high school counselors and financial aid counselors. Each of my kids started out really knowing very little about where to apply, what their real chances were of getting in, what a particular college would be like, etc... CPS was able to build rapport with them and help them come to smart decisions on where to apply, how to set their expectations and then fill out the college applications. They went back and forth so many times helping with the college essays, what to put on the applications, etc. That in itself paid for the fee. Everything else was like icing on the cake. Also, let's face it, filling out the FAFSA is like doing your own taxes, you need to hire someone who knows what they are doing - and College Planning Source knows what they are doing. There is no question that they were able to significantly help us reduce the cost of attendance for our kids. I tell everyone that I know with prospective college students that they need to call t right away. Working with them was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I started to volunteer with this organization, and it was the most insulting experience I have ever came across. I did close to all of the work and assignments told aside of 2, we as a group of trainees were told that we would get a follow up email individually on anything lingering. As I waited for Jaimes follow up email she gaslighted me instead and made it seem as if I was not interested and then questioning my ability to follow through. I went through weeks of training giving 3 hours twice weekly, reached out to 3 people to use as for a reference, went to dmv for my printout, did 2 over an hour interviews, paid money out of my own pocket to drive to pacific beach to get my fingerprints scan, and sent emails in a timely manner to communicate. With all that said. Jamie continued to question my interest in the program. I reachedout to her direct supervior to give feed back and her Supervisor Jenna who was also condescending to me when it came to me voicing my concern about my interaction with Jamie. If she's been so supportive to others and followed up with others and did not gaslight others it makes me feel that it has to do with my race! There is no reason why she should not have shown me support or gratitude For my time and all I have done. I was one of the only Hispanics in my group and I was the only one they were treating poorly for no reason. Even more so to think that if the bigger picture is to help a child and that was something they were truly concerned for they would be going above and beyond to make that happen instead they both treated me like I was less than. My advice is to volunteer your precious time with and organization and people who value and support you. Good luck out there to all of you amazing people who do volunteer work...

It's been years in the making for this review as our child has long since graduated, but after…read morereflection I feel it necessary to reveal our experience at SFC Schools. Our child attended this " Christian place of learning" from 3rd-10th grade and the end result was us removing him from a very bad situation. The lower and middle schools were ok, although their academic standards are so low, it's actually a misleading misnomer to call it a Blue Ribbon School. However, the upper school is a cauldron of ugly, political, elitist, bullying poison that is condoned and promoted by unqualified teachers and administrators concerned only with the largest donors' kids. Our child was subjected to incessant bullying and verbal abuse by unchecked peers and was ostracized by faculty, administrators and coaches when it was brought to their attention. The best move we ever made was to remove our child from that place and return them to public school - where they flourished. But there was one ugly surprise during the transition - the academic level was so poor at SFC that our child had to take extra courses to catch up to the other students. Thankfully the new counselors guided us through this and by the start of Senior year, it was reconciled completely. DO NOT ever consider sending your child to this school past the lower levels unless you want them to be harassed or to turn out like the students who are harassing good kids out of spite and meanness. Our child was marred by it for many years and it feels good to finally write this after years of silence.
