I haven't been here in years, and I was so happy to have a chance to go back. There was a special ice cream I tried; black cherry cheesecake. I usually go for a chocolate or peanut butter something, but this sounded interesting. I had it as a frappe and it was delicious! Get it while it's available. This place has been huge assortment of flavors to choose from. I spent a legit 10 minutes staring at the menu to decide what I wanted. I eventually settled on two scoops (Nutella and strawberry chocolate chip). Both were delicious and also hugeeeee (see photos). In hindsight I should've opted for one scoop buuuuut is was a blistering 95 degrees out and just went "bah screw it" and pounded the rest down like a champ. Highly recommend! There was plenty of street parking available when we went (Sunday afternoon). Searing is a bit limited though so be mindful of that if you're coming with a large group! Delicious every time. Good selection of products. It would be great if the on line ordering was easier to use and the sign board outside were expanded to show all the available flavors. It was a bit depressing to walk in only to find out all the non-dairy items were unavailable. Beautiful place with Hershey's ice cream quality. Ew. I regret eating the extra calories here. The ice cream was more like flavored ice than "creamy." Homemade ice cream is the reason to visit this shop. It's the reason it sets it apart. I ordered the mint chocolate cookie (they use hydrox, vintage!) with hot fudge. I could have done with a little bit more hot fudge, but the serving of ice cream was good. I immediately went back inside and ordered a smoothie - you get a choice of 1 juice and 2 fruits, which they mix with their frozen tart yogurt. They let me pick 2 juices so I went with the pineapple and orange juices, and mango and raspberry. It was so refreshing and filling - it's quite large! Took my nephew here after bowling. Excellent ice cream!!! Lots of flavors you've never had before and super large servings!!! Get a small or you'll regret it! Good ice cream is a matter of putting a lot of good ingredients together and not screwing them up. Reasons to be Cheerful does that particularly well. I stopped in with my wife while on vacation and took in the wide variety of flavors. There's a LOT to choose from. She decided on something with hydrox cookies, while I opted for coco pebbles cereal milk. The pebbles were mixed with the ice cream while I waited which was a nice move from other places I've been that do a cereal ice cream. The other places have soggy, sad bits of cereal and the ghost of flavor strewn about the ice cream. This had crunchy little coco bites and a nice sprinkle of pebbles on top. I really enjoyed it. I've had a lot of ice cream and this definitely falls towards the good part of the spectrum. I wouldn't call it a really exceptional place for ice cream, but I've only got a sample size of one. I'm just going to have to make another trip to check for new flavors and consistency in delivery. But so far, it's a good, good start. read more

All the neighborhood kids and families seem to love this place. Friendly service, they work with local groups like the girl scouts. When we go, there is always a great variety of flavors, but sometimes they run out of sweet cream or whatever my son thinks he requires. The servers are wonderful about checking the back room for more stock. They are extremely family friendly and tolerate my 2 year old running up and down their ramps in excitement. Went to get ice cream with my 3 grandchildren today 3/26, and got there at 6:40, got up to the counter and the 2 teenage girls said sorry but we are closed. I asked if they could please serve and said they closed the register already. Can't tell you how upset my grandkids and I were. A charming dessert & coffee place in Concord, MA. There were too many interesting things to choose from: tates cookie sandwich, frappes, lattes, nutella chip ice cream flavor... I ended with my usual mocha chip and was quite happy with my choice. I also loved their merchandise... the RTBC hat and the buttons. Service was good and the girl helping us was very patient as I was taking a lot of time selecting the buttons. We didn't mind the long line as there were interesting things to see inside the store and benches to sit on if someone in your party gets tired. The girl behind the counter is clearly is doing the summer job for her resume and she is too privileged to care about costumer service- she was quite unhappy taking orders and she didn't care. Great community and family stop off in West Concord. The owner is quite kind and that trickles down to his staff to create a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. The ice cream is yummy and IMO better quality than other ice cream places around. In a conversation with the owner it seemed he wanted to do an all natural ice cream store, but unfortunately demand led him to use artificial ingredients such as the M&M ice cream. (I believe they use Garelick farms milk (from Bliss Dairy) which is a step above conventional milk since they do not use recumbent bovine somatrophin hormone (banned in the EU, Canada and Australia) which can increase Insulin growth factor hormone.) Certainly I'd prefer grass fed milk rather than corn/grain fed, but the demand probably isn't there yet for that kind of quality. Overall a big thumbs up as a great stop to make if you are in W Concord w/family or friends or need ice cream for home and want to support the local economy. read more

I couldn't be more enthusiastic about this place. It's premium ice cream for about 70% what I'm used to paying for it in Boston or Cambridge. The Aztec Chocolate with cayenne is spicy and delicious, and the Dulce de Leche is an amazing flavor that you don't normally see outside of really fancy gelaterias. I only sampled the coffee ice cream -- my normal benchmark for comparing ice cream -- but it was A-OK. The premises are a little nicer than you'd expect from an ice cream place, the recessed room in the back is a cool space. I also like the name even though I find Ian Dury somewhat irritating. read more

Very cute ice cream and dessert shop that is nice for a sit-down break with family or friends. While sweets are the focus, I saw a white board offering grilled cheese sandwiches as well as a savory crepe option or two. We shared a sorbet which was delicious. One unisex bathroom. I live in West Concord and drive by this place at least 10 times a week. I was finally tempted to walk in there about a year ago and after 10 minutes of watching the staff with the deer in the headlights look, I walked out. About 6 months ago, I tried it again. I walked out again. Stupid me, I was craving ice cream today and stopped there again ... I wish I walked out. The place can't decide if they're a bakery, a lunch counter, a candy store or an ice cream parlor. It was the middle of the afternoon and there were at least 6 people behind the counter and zero customers. All I wanted was an ice cream cone, that should be easy, shouldn't it? Of course, the girl behind the counter couldn't describe what was in the various flavors they offered, so rather than listen to her ask someone else to describe everything I asked about, I just figured "Death by Chocolate" would be fine. She scoops the out ice cream and then spends about 2 minutes trying to put "sprinkles" on it. As she's handing it to me, tells me it's a "little soft" ... as the scoops start to slide off the top of the cone. I should have left at that point. But nooooo ... I decided to try again and figured a simple chocolate ice cream cone wouldn't be too complicated and she claimed the chocolate was "hard". I stood there with the cone in my hand for 3 more minutes, while they figured out what they had done with my $10. I finally got change (small cone was $5.50). The ice cream was disgusting. It tasted only slightly worse than the plastic tasting cones you can get at Wendy's hamburgers. If you're going to charge over $5 for an ice cream cone, at least use some decent ice cream! I'm the first person to put an effort into supporting local business, but I don't have a clue who owns this place, I doubt they're local ... and nothing about the place is appealing in any way. read more

'Sample them all' the gentleman behind the counter told me my first time in. I 100% recommend both the flavors I ended up selecting Coconut and Salted Caramel with chocolate coved pretzels. I think there is no question the ice cream is quality, however it did not make the experience one would hope for. I ordered cookie dough and did not recognize it when it arrived. The server explained it was chocolate based. No one told me that and the picture on the menu looks traditional. So that is really not a very good approach. When I expressed surprise there was no offer to make it right. So may try again because I think it is good but they need to be a bit more customer service friendly. read more

The name alone deserves 5 stars but what seals the deal are the tasty offerings inside this charming new England store. The crepes are really tasty, filled with smoked salmon, or the cheddar and avocado crepe with or without bacon I can recommend. They also have a huge selection of ice creams which no one is interested in at this time of year but in the summer has people lining up on the weekends. They must have about 30 flavors and my favorite was the mocha. Parking is metered street parking, usually available. Pretty good coffee too! read more

Today was my first visit to Reasons to be Cheerful and it will definitely be my last. All of the staff (with the exception of one gentleman) had no customer service. You would think for a place that has "cheerful" in its name that there would at least be a smile or even a " hi, what can I get you today". Instead we got "what do you want" which should have indicated to get out and never look back but I give the benefit of the doubt to people especially those who work with the general public but the icing on the cake here was when my husband placed his order the woman looked at him and moved on to the next customer which at that point I grabbed another woman who was not to happy that we disturbed her.That is a prime example of someone who should not be in a customer service. The ice cream was nothing to write home about, I was expecting creamy and it definitely was not. We sat at a table with our kids and tried talking to them about the days adventures and couldn't hear them because some woman who was waiting in line decided it was a great place to let her children run back and forth on the ramp while yelling repeatedly like banshees. I understand it's an ice cream shop and kids get excited but letting them run like banshees for 15 minutes while you're in line is absolutely absurd. I'll continue visiting the ice cream place in Acton or Daddy's on the South Shore. read more

This place is AMAZING! I went in to try their crepes for the first time yesterday, and not only was the proprietor very welcoming and quite accommodating of my friend's fish allergies, the crepes were phenomenal! I have had crepes in Paris and these could definitely hold their own against any Parisian crepery. I had never before tried crepes with buckwheat in the batter, but it gave extra dimension and a heavenly texture to every flavor-filled bite. I got the apples, brie, and arugula combination, my one friend got the cheese and ham, but also asked for apple in it, and my other friend got the smoked salmon. I tried them all and was simply blown away by the quality of the cuisine for such a great price! Bonus: Since we came in just as they were opening the shop, the owner gave us complimentary brownies to have with our coffee as the crepe maker warmed up. He also gave us espresso cups of hot chocolate, which is really good business sense because once you have tried their hot chocolate you will never settle for Swiss Miss again.
