It's nice to have a local pizza place. I ordered extra cheese, onions, garlic, and mushrooms. The toppings were just fine. The sauce really needs some Italian spice and some garlic. But they lose a whole star for the bread, which was tough and chewy. It gets the toppings delivered, but otherwise adds nothing to the enjoyment of the pizza. My friends and I were hanging out at the beach trying to make the most of our last night on the island. We were excited to find this place that also delivers pizza to you at no extra cost. I stopped through Jekyll Island for a few days and was looking for a pizza restaurant, this place is the only one that showed up in the search. My pizza was good enough, but not outstanding. We had a rainy day while in Jekyll Island so we decided to stay in for lunch and opted for pizza (we had our dog so dining was limited to outdoor spots)... being this is pretty much your pizza option on the island, Red Bug was it. We stop here every trip out to Jekyll Island for cheer competition. The pizza is outstanding. The crust is just the right thickness and flavor is fantastic. This visit we purchased a Red Bug Special and a Hawaiian pizzas on our way into town. My only complaint is that the closing hours posted are 9pm, but when we called to place our order we were told that 8:30 was too late to dine in. Most restaurants will seat up until closing. We were fine grabbing it and taking it back to our hotel to eat after we checked in this time though as the kids had a long ride in car and were hungry. We'll be back again next trip here for finals. read more

Let me first preface that I am not picky about my pizza, so my review may be more light hearted than a true pizza lover! Jekyll Island doesn't have many food places to begin. Red Bugs indoor dining area was closed due to short staffing, so the take out window was the only available options. We opted to get our pizza and sit outside on one of the few benches they have. The service was fairly quick and good at answering questions. We ordered a small pizza (6 slices) for $8 and added a few toppings which totaled to be around $17. Pricey in my opinion for a small pizza. It was hot, fresh, and decently good! I think you could find better pizza elsewhere, but if you are on jekyll searching for something quick , this is a good option. read more

What a great little pizza place. The location and the vibe matches the relaxed island lifestyle. The staff was ridiculously friendly. I ordered the small meaty pizza and it was delicious. Staying on Jekyll Island, there are not a lot of places to go out to eat even during the busy season. When the island is in the off-season, things get even tighter. Fortunately, Red Bug Pizza is there to provide something to eat, even when it is later at night! We pulled into the place just around sundown, and though there weren't a lot of cars in the lot, we still figured it would be worth a shot. And it was! We were the only people in the restaurant, and talking to the wait staff apparently they had been getting about one customer an hour coming into the restaurant itself. They were being kept somewhat busy in the kitchen from takeout and delivery orders, though. We ordered up a pizza and sat and talked with the wait staff, finding out even more history about the island and its more recent trade of being a vacationing destination spot. The pizza was good! Our last pizza had been down in the Keys, and this was so much better than that! We didn't eat all of it, choosing to pack half of it away for the next day's lunch, and even then it was good pizza! After a long day on Cumberland Island we were just too tired and sandy to even think about going to a restaurant. Luckily Red Bug had a pickup window and an online ordering option. So while my partner drove us back to Jekyll from St. Mary's, I placed an online order from my phone and asked for it to be ready in 30 mins. Right on time we picked up Greek salads and a large pizza and were on our way back to our rental. The staff was super friendly and everything was delicious. The salads were HUGE (we really could have ordered one and split it) and had real kalamata olives (yum). The pizza was hot and just perfect. I should have asked for it to be "well done" or "extra baked" - but we just ran it under the broiler quickly at the house. We may have caught this out on an off day! But service was terribly slow. Ordered salad and Lasagna to go. Instead of taking 20 minutes, food was ready in 50 minutes. Spinach salad was good (not wonderful) and lasagna was ok. While the ingredients fresh, it just seemed to be missing that pizazz. It was takeout and lasagna was stuck/overcooked on the bottom. After a day at Summers Wave Water Park we stopped off at Red Bug Motor's Pizza. There is not a lot of seating inside but is really nice and relaxing. They do have outside seating as well. We ordered the cheesy bread and the Red Bug Special which was amazing. Sweet Tea was refreshing. Staff is friendly and welcoming. There is a mini golf and playground as well.
