Our expectations were not high from the external appearance of the building. We ordered off the regular menu and we all had hot ginger tea. Our order of spring rolls came quickly and we devoured them because we were hungry. All of us thought they were very tasty. When our dishes arrived in ten minutes, we started eating because we were still hungry. We turned to each other and each of us said our dish was very good. I had a pork dish and it was definitely good. One half was fried pork over rice noodles and the other half was a salad with carrots, cucumber, lettuce and cilantro. The dressing on the salad was quite good, as was the flavor of the pork. Our bill was very reasonable. If there is a downside it is very minor. The portions are on the small side. Our host in Odense said that he plans to head back to this restaurant for another meal or two.

At last we had two types of cheese; taleggio and pecorino which ended the parade. This was more than enough for us so we asked if we could get the Carbonara to go. No problem there. We paid at the counter and drove off. After a short while we couldn't restrain ourselves anymore, and had to try the Carbonara. It was a bit disappointing as it had a little bit too much sauce and could use some more salt, pepper and cheese. All in all finding Pasta e Basta was a very pleasant surprise, and we will be coming again when we travel across Funen.

Third dish, pork cheeks that were not just fork tender, but spoon tender with fried chanterelles and warmed elderberry clusters accentuating the earthy goodness of the Danish countryside. My beautiful wife ordered the chicken and asparagus tort followed by a fried beef patty with potato fries, bright green peas and a very well done bearnaise sauce. Think a more every day rustic meal. It alone was fantastic, and I gladly traded bite for bite with my wife. The bearnaise was exceptional, and I could have happily dipped my shoe sole in it for a midnight snack. And finally, a pear crumble. The flavor of the hot pear was well pronounced, and cut with the elderberry sorbet/vanilla sauce.
