Although on my very first visit, I believed my long time favourite dish, lamb bhuna, had far too much garlic, making it taste more like rogan josh, which usually has fried garlic added, this was rectified on my next visit, and has been perfect since (3/4 years) Each dish that I have since had, has never failed to please, although on a couple of occasions the lamb used was a little on the tough side, but so far since, that problem has never recurred. I have dined alone, and with my family, and have never had a bad meal there, the one exception to that is mentioned last paragraph. Beers are Cobra and a "normal " lager on draught, and various bottled beers, wine and spirits are in good supply. One amazing thing about the place, is that since I first dined here, there has never been an increase in price, meaning that at the time of writing, a main course dish costs from around £4.20, a good deal less than half the price you would pay for a similar dish in Nottingham's Curry Capital, Maid Marian Way,sundries are similarly great value, plus a take away discount of 20% I believe (please verify) The waiting staff are courteous and friendly, but as with any popular restaurant, things can get a little hectic when the place is full. Weekday evenings are less busy, but Friday and Saturdays are immensely popular, and most of the time it is hard to get a reasonably early time slot for a table without pre booking. Jee Ja Jees is one Burton's most established Indian restaurants and I have dined there many times. A warm welcome is waiting for us every time we visit, which is always a good start. The front of the restaurant contains comfortable leather sofas, where you can relax whilst waiting for your table or takeaway, while having a drink from what is a sizeable and well stocked bar. The tables vary in size and are able to cope with all sizes of party, but our favourites are the spacious round tables, which are more social! The walls are adorned with murals and tree ferns pervade the dining area which adds to the ambiance. Menu wise, there is such a wide variety that it becomes almost impossible to choose. Obviously starting with poppadoms and pickle tray, then I went for a King Prawn Puri, very flavoursome, generously portioned and decorated with a sweet mango sauce around the edge, a nice touch. Mains wise between us we had some traditional dishes, - Tandoori Mixed Grill, Chicken Bhuna and I had their special Biryani. All good dishes, but the prices are approaching the expensive side, with the Biryani being just shy of £13. With accompaniments like naans, Parathas etc, this can take meals close to £25+ a head with drinks. We asked the concierge for the best Indian Food, noting that we had a car and didn't mind driving, and he pointed us here. The forgotten swimmer was in the family that owned it. He certainly remembered us. It was one of the most amazing meals we've ever had. I doubt many people get as much free food as we did, but it was all to our tastes based upon what we did order, and we were sad that we had no way to bring the leftovers with us after breakfast. All in all, two adults and an eight year old had some nine different items, and all were the best of its type we'd ever tasted. I recall the peshwari naan as amazing, the chicken biryani light and not at all greasy, everything was spiced flawlessly to my wife's generally milder tastes, and the korma was a revelation. They were very crowded, but we showed up as the Saturday crowd was thinning.
