Today was no exception and we were invited back for Chilli & Chips which was delicious and on this basis I should probably sample something else from their menu next time! Of more interest (to some) will be the beers and there was a good range of guest ales on hand-pull and I chose the 'Loose Blonde' which was also very easy to drink and not too alcoholic. Best result of the day. This is a ye olde style pub, dark wood, low ceilings, with lots of nooks and crannies, and little dookits to sit in. I liked the carpet, which is themed with their orange logo. There were a few real ales to choose from, and I went for a Hawkshead red ale of some sort, the name of which I now can't remember. The bar man was really nice and let me taste it before I decided. Given that it was a men's hockey team we were with, there were plenty of titters about the 'Loose Blonde' that most of them ordered. Hilarious lads. The team were all fed steaming hot plates of chilli and chips. I'm reliably told that the chilli was amazing. The chips were pretty good too. I'd definitely return to The Orange Tree to try a few more of their beers as they seemed to have quite a few on tap.

Some of the meals were in complete mine missing the onion marmalade as promiesd on the menu. But best of all was my wifes asparagus resotto which did'nt contain a single asparagus but had been put together with green beans by the way of an alternative. On taking this up with staff we were told that they had run out of asparagus.I thought may be they should of mentioned this before serving green beans instead. They had a solution though. When we told them that we were pressed for time(we waited really waited for the first lot) and could'nt take an alternative meal they suggested that the coffe we had on first taking our table would be complimentry. I explained that I did'nt have a problem with the coffee it was nice and that I was happy to pay for it. No luck. I could not make myself understood. Ultimately I explained I was going to pay for everything except the resotto as it was not what we asked for and we did not eat it. Polish staff very friendly management/owners difficult.

Best find on holiday ever!!…read more Set in a beautiful little village with a huge village green with loads of parking round and about (although im sure that on a mid summer sunny day parking may be somewhat difficult!). The pub has a bar area and a restaurant area - we only ever went into the bar as you could eat int here and it was really cosy (dogs are also allowed!). The staff were incredibly friendly and chatty (lets face it, Yorkshire, particularly North Yorkshire folk are possibly the most friendly on the planet - i challenge you to disprove this!). The food was INCREDIBLE. Nothing fancy pants, just really good food, VERY big portions (trust me on this, you dont need three courses - choose your weapon of starter or dessert to go alongside your main - we made the mistake one night and 1) couldnt eat it all and 2)pretty much rolled home). We spent an evening in the pub, had a meal and then sat playing card games - we felt incredibly welcome. So welcome that we ended up visiting three times in a week long holiday. We spent the remainder of our holidays here, every evening. Nestling by a brook full of eels. The pubs dog, Jasper, loved to just stand in the cooling water on the hot evenings that we experienced this July. Sufficient room to sit outside with plenty of tables. Service is second to none. Professional, efficient and, more to the point, friendly. Great selection of real ales, my favourite was the Cromwell. Now to the reason for frequenting this hostelry, the food. A reasonable menu taking into account the position of this pub. A good varied choice of fresh seafood, burgers, curries and steaks. We tried most of them and they all were extremely tasty. All cooked to order. Great mussels in white wine. Behind the bar is a blackboard describing their Naga 'Viper' curry made with, 'officially', the hottest chilli pepper. Underneath is written 'Curries ordered 528, curries eaten 400' LOL. I love hot curries but, even I, would not attempt it. We hope to make a return visit next year. The pub itself isn't as big as it seems from outside, with much of the pub area divided into single-spaced, window-seated tables. On the plus side, that means it won't get too noisy when the placed is packed. The real ale selection is certainly adequate [I've seen better, and much worse, the latter more often], the staff generally nice and helpful, and the real ales being kept fresh. They have a great selection of real ales to sample, and even offer special discounts for CAMRA members. There's a cool, homely, welcoming ambience about the place that lifts your spirits as soon as you walk in the door. A perfect place to spend a relaxing couple of hours away from the bustle of city life.
