I was so impressed by this fish and chips shack! I ordered two tacones. Without knowing how big they would be, I got two because that put the cost similar to that of a sandwich or a 1-piece fish and chips set, so I figured two tacones would be a meal, but they were actually pretty substantial! I ate both but was pretty full and probably would've been satisfied with just one. Both the tempura yam and jerk fish tacos were great! I loved the slaw, and the jerk-seasoned fish salad in the fish tacone was interesting and tasty. The tortillas were crisped up perfectly. The yam tacone was a very tasty vegetarian (not vegan on account of the mayo) option - I would say it's worth coming here even if this is the only thing you can have. Heads up that the seating is very limited at the wharf and you'll likely have to eat at the standing bar if you want to enjoy your food onsite. Nice view of the water. read more

The first day we tried the wild salmon, jerk salmon, and tempura cod and loved the wild salmon the most that we got two the second day to bring on the Clipper back to Seattle. I came here on the recommendation of a coworker. The line was long on a weekday, and we waited about 30 minutes in line to get our order placed. Seating is limited and could be better. However, we made it work with our order of 3 pieces of halibut and chips, a bowl of chowder and a fountain drink. One sticking point we did not understand was that any order with 1-3 pieces of fish only included only one order of tartar sauce and another side of sauce would be an extra charge. I know the extra sauce did not cost that much, but after spending almost $70 for this meal. The sauce situation sort of dampened the experience. Some people really like their tartar sauce on their fish and I think 3 pieces of fish should have a bit more tartar sauce than 1 piece of fish. The fish was nicely fried and lightly battered. Is it the best fish and chips I have eaten? I would say no when compared to Lower Mainland options. However, it was a tasty option in the area and seems like a popular tourist attraction. The chips aka fries were also good. They were pipping hot and had a good crunch. The coleslaw was forgettable and average tasting. The chowder was different. It was mildly spicy with a hint of coconut flavour. There was an okay amount of fish and plenty of corn. I think it was good to try this version, but I prefer the New England style of chowder. I did enjoy our meal here during our visit in Victoria. However, I would try something else next time when I am in town because there are plenty of fish and chips options closer to home. read more

Stopped here for dinner prior to our ferry back to Port Angeles. It was cold and rainy, but that didn't stop us from trying it out. We got a couple orders of fried fish with fries, which were great, and the tacos that my son really liked. Sat outside under an umbrella and enjoyed the scenery. A casual gem for lunch! There were only a few in line when we ordered but the service was friendly and efficient. The line was 20 deep when we left though. The fish and chips portions are GINORMOUS. I ordered the 2 piece cod to split with my 12yo and we sadly left a little behind because we were stuffed. But man, that fish was so tender and mild. We came during lunch hour on a weekend and waited close to 45 minutes. You order at the register, then find your own seats. I would say seating is a little limited, so I would be weary coming here with a big group. Fish & Chips 4/5: We tried both the BC Halibut and Pacific Cod. If you prefer a thicker, more meaty fish, get the Halibut. If you want something more delicate and flaky, get the Pacific Cod. Surprisingly, I liked the Pacific Cod more! I thought the Halibut was a little too thick, it overpowered the crunch of the fry. Tacones 4/5 - We got the Wild Salmon version and the Tempura Cod version, on a tostado. These get messy! If you order the regular version (on a tortilla), I recommend eating it ASAP because it can get soggy and impossible to eat. They gave large chunks of salmon and lots of sauce and toppings. The tostado version is worth trying as well! It was a little easier to eat and had a good crunch. Chowder 5/5 - Not your traditional, average chowder! It has an Asian twist, with a coconut, curry like flavor (has a slight kick). Lots of seafood and is a hearty break from all the fried food. Even though I love traditional clam/seafood chowders, this really wow'ed me. One of my favorite dishes! read more

Very good, but maybe not as transcendent as the other reviews led me to expect. Quality of the fish itself (grilled ahi, salmon and halibut f&c) was definitely good, but again not exactly amazing. Breaded tempura style, not too oily but a little oily. Cocktail sauce ("spicy ketchup") is $2 extra. No lemon with fish. Fries not soggy, definitely edible but not particularly impressive. Although the price appears a little high, this IS a tourist restaurant located ON a wharf, and additionally I can't imagine any reasonable person complaining about the portion size; it's a LOT of food. I thought the salmon was very good, the halibut was certainly better than average, but not spectacular, and the ahi was about the same. The wait to order was long, but since we were waiting in a line of customers, it was hard to be surprised or upset about that. The wait for our food after ordering was less than I would have expected from the crowd, and the customer service was very good, both in efficiency and friendliness. I don't know that I ever need to go back, but it was certainly worth a visit, and the fun experience of eating on the waterfront was a great experience. I have paid a great deal more for meals that were actively disappointing in other tourist towns, so I was pretty satisfied with Red Fish Blue Fish. read more

Best fish and chips we have ever had. The line was not too bad but it seemed that there was always someone in line. My husband and I shared the Halibut combo which included fries, tartar sauce, and cole slaw and that was plenty for the two of us. I added a side of Spicy Spot Prawn mayo and you should too. Delicious. The fish is perfectly golden crispy, food was fresh and hot. Amazing flavor. For this being "unhealthy" we did not feel horrible after eating it. This place is popular for a reason. We had to return to RFBF on our visit to Victoria and the food is just as good as I remembered! We got even MORE of their fish and chips this time trying their cod and halibut each in an order of two pieces with chips and it was amazing. The batter is so light and the fish is not overcooked at all. The portions are generous and the fries were crispy and great with some ketchup. Of course we got the Tacone which had plenty of ahi tuna inside and because their fish is so good, we also got the grilled ahi tuna on salad. We were shocked at how large the portions were and the slightly seared cookery of the tuna was done expertly. It is located near the harbour and only outdoor seating is available. There is usually a line but the staff there move quick and are so nice! Overall, a must visit when in Victoria! read more

My first impression of Red Fish Blue Fish was the long line, but it's also a good sign as the food must be good. Fortunately the line was long but it moved pretty quickly.  From seeing other people's food, everything looked so good. When we finally got ours, I can confirm the food does not only look amazing, it tasted great too! We ordered the Cod Tacos, Halibut fish n chips, Ahi Tuna salad and a chowder bowl. Everything was in big portion and tasted so good, but my favorites were the Halibut fish n chips and the Ahi Tuna salad. The Halibut was so tender and the Ahi Tuna salad tasted so refreshing in contrast to the fried food. We sat at under the covered deck area and really enjoyed watching boats coming and going while we enjoyed our lunch. Overall, we really loved this little stand and would like to come back whenever we visit Victoria again. read more

I did not have high hopes, fishes mixed with jerk seasonings, sautéed. Hmmm. But I stood in line with hope. Now the line is long and you have one person taking orders. I stood in line for at least 30 min, but when I got to the front, the staff was super nice and helpful. I got a cod taco and a jerk taco and both delivered! But the jerk taco was so unexpectedly good. As a pescatarian, I have missed out of jerk seasoned goos because it's always meat. If there is a person who wants that jerk experience it without the meat, this taco will do more than satisfy. I do not live in the area but please don't take it off the menu because I will be back. Amazing fish and chips restaurant, just a window to the kitchen. Once you get your food you will eat it on the wharf. There are some chairs around but be prepared to stand and eat your lunch/dinner. My father, husband, son, and I had a delightful dinner here. I had the "Cod Dog" which was delicious, my husband, father, and son had fish and chips. YUM. I had one meal in Victoria and walked out of a fancy waterside restaurant to eat here. It was well worth the choice. I found this place via Yelp. It is there most rated and highest rated food establishment in downtown Victoria, and for good reason. I had the halibut fish and chips and it did not disappoint. I got two pieces but ended up taking one home because they were so huge! Breading was perfect and the fish was cooked beautifully. The ambience was also great. I think I arrived around 6pm with only one person ahead of me in line, and the line didn't go past 6 people the whole time I was there. Monday evening after a holiday did not disappoint I love the lemon dressed coleslaw; what a clever way to add acid without giving out thousands of lemon slices a day. The ketchup was also amazing (a comment that could only made by Americans who cannot find ketchup unadulterated with corn extracts). The tartar sauce seemed fresh; I'm not sure if they made it or if is just way less mayo-based than in the US, but I'd bottle and sell it if I was this place. Fries were fries, maybe out of a freezer bag... nothing to write home about but who cares? We're here for fish. All of the packaging is compostable - utensils, dishes, sauce cups, drink cups. None of your personal trash goes into their bins. They don't have much in the way of carry out but they will wrap your tray in parchment and that kept it nice for breakfast. Not quite crisp, but also not super soggy. I can easily see why people stand in line for ages for this food, and I would have done it too.
