I definitely recommend making a reservation, as I'm not sure how walk-ins are handled. The place was fairly busy when we arrived at 7pm on a Wednesday. My boyfriend and I each had three drinks, and while they were all well-balanced and not too strong, my favorite was definitely the Spiced Rusty Cherry (which happened to be one of my boyfriend's choices). When the check arrived, we were informed that tipping isn't included or expected, though we decided to leave a tip anyway. One thing I wish they did differently is to offer a lower starting tip percentage, like 10% or 15%, instead of beginning at 20% and scaling up from there. read more

When I tell you the service here is impeccable, I mean they come by every few minutes to wipe the condensation off your glass and give you a fresh coaster so it doesn't stick to your wet glass. It's a cute little speakeasy inside monkey mash. If you make a reservation at red frog you can always stop by monkey mash after. We were told that the cocktails at red frog are more twists on classics and the ones at monkey mash are more unique and quirky. We got 4 different drinks at red frog and the best one by far for the spiced rusty cherry. It was fantastic! We also got the bartender to make us some off menu cocktails and she delivered with a great last word cocktail. Love the speakeasy style secret entrance. A lady was standing outside the unmarked door in street clothes, and we had no idea that she was the hostess until she said something. We made a reservation about 3 weeks in advance and were seated on time. The place was packed with mostly Americans (yes, you can hear pretty much everyone's conversation in here). The menu itself was a work of art, literally. They had pictures of different styles inspired by each drink, and also detailed notes so that you know what you are getting. The servers seemed very familiar with the menu and can also explain further if you have questions. Unfortunately, I had to remove a star because the drinks actually were not very well balanced. Two of them tasted a bit soapy (read too much florals), one didn't deliver the earthy notes promised with a name like mushroom godfather, and one just too tart. The only one I really enjoyed was the smoke earl grey boulevadier drink. The menu is very inventive, and the techniques showcased definitely intensive. Reservations are elusive. The entrance is literally hidden. I was at Monkey Mash when they offered to seat us here. Of course I took it! Their cocktail menu is certainly creative. I loved their menu design. They even added a few conversation starter questions inside. They have the menu available by QR code too. They have free WiFi. The spiced rusty cherry is the showy drink that has a lot of smoke. It smells so strong and tastes even stronger. It was actually more smoky and stronger than American Gangster, which I ordered thinking it would be smoky. Service is good. One thing I wasn't exactly pleased about was that there was only one bathroom for everyone. I didn't like seeing all the men using the bathroom after drinking and knowing I had to share it with them. This was an excellent speakeasy that certainly deserves to be rated best 50 bars in the world. I would prefer Monkey Mash though. read more

This place is all you can ask for from a Speakeasy. Secret door, small and inviting room, loads of cool art and eclectic decorations, personal attention and, of course, the outstanding drinks. The menu is a book, each drink has its own page with a "story" of the drink's profile. Not all are straight forward, and you might need to ask what the spirit is or taste but the servers are happy to help. They are constantly checking on everyone to either make recommendations, put in orders, replace coasters with each drink, and refill waters. At no point will you have an empty glass in front of you, unless you choose to. But, with so many fun drinks to pick from, I really don't think that happens often. To get in here you must know about it, and make reservations. You will only find it with the help of the staff, and it's a fun reveal when it's opened for you. They offer some bites to eat as well, and the time just passes by without you even noticing it. Again, a true Speakeasy. read more

We were ushered to a little table in the corner right away (I was glad we made a reservation), and ordered about 4 cocktails. I asked our server for a recommendation and he just replied with "All of them are good." I was hoping for a bit more explanation and some pointers. The Bubbles & Troubles was the only drink we liked. The presentation is very cool, and the drink was well balanced and light, crisp, with a nice dash of sweet. I did taste the brioche also which was cool. The second best was apples and plum, a decent fruity drink. We would not recommend the Hacienda or the Lilac. We would've ordered more if they were good.. but they just weren't. Overall: came here because it was on a list, and to be honest this is the first top 50 bars we've. visited. I was expecting more given the hype. It's definitely creative and the drinks on paper sound really interesting, but when we actually tasted them, we didn't think the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. Glad we checked it out, but wouldn't return or recommend it unless you're dead set on crossing it off your list. Heads up, ended up just ordering 2 drinks and leaving early for another spot so maybe could have given it another shot, but didn't think it would be worth it. Drink selection: If rum is your alcohol of choice and you're not really into tequila, whisky or gin you will likely feel limited in the options available. Service: staff seemed really helpful and will help you choose a drink if you ask, which wasn't a service we used because we had chosen far ahead of time. It's nice that they give you free water, especially because the drinks are strong. Taste: based on the interesting ingredients, we thought it would come together better. I was hoping for an experience where each ingredient on is own is ok/good, but absolutely amazing when combined. I was hoping for the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, which I didn't get here unfortunately. We've personally have had far better cocktails in many other places at lower price points with much better ambiances. Peanut old fashioned: smelled like peanuts, probably just from the peanut dust sprinkled on top of the ice cube. This made it very fragrant to drink. It smelled more like peanuts but tasted like a regular old fashioned. I would have liked personally a stronger orange fragrance in the drink. Nice clear ice. Between the red sheets: I thought it was as a bit strong at first but it mellowed out a bit more as you drank it. On top of the ice there was a hibiscus flower and strawberry powder, that gave it subtle fruity and floral fragrance. Personally, to us, it tasted like hibiscus tea (but also, not great hibiscus tea) with some alcohol in it. To be fair, I really like hibiscus tea. Ambiance: a speakeasy to me evokes dark, intimate and private seating. My favorite speakeasies have this. With Red Frog, though, you are really close to other people and the music is quite loud. It was nice the entrance was tucked away from both Monkey Mash (the bar next door, so patrons of Monkey Mash will likely walk past the entrance without noticing Red Frog is even there). Monkey Mash and Red Frog seem to share an entrance, and in our case, there was a person guiding you in depending on your establishment. Then, when you reached the hidden door to Red Frog, a little window opened and you could briefly see the bartender confirm your reservation with your guide. Reservation system: I booked about 3-4 weeks in advance. There were at least 2 empty tables when I was there and my group personally left earlier than the 2 hour time slot we were given. Amazing intimate cocktail speakeasy. The space is so cozy and comfortable. With such a small capacity, the bartenders are definitely able to provide attentive service. They literally wipe your glass and change your coaster halfway through your drink. Our bartenders were super knowledgeable about the menu and discussing flavor profiles. Some of their house signatures are whiskey heavy but there is still plenty of variety on the menu. Also, shout out to the short haired female bartender for throwing us some merchandise. Totally worth it and worth the hype!! Voted one of the top 50 bars IN THE WORLD, Red Frog is absolutely a gem of gems! First off - make a reservation! I think they *can* do walk-ins, but I didn't want to risk it. The space is very small so the reservation is good for 2 hours. Next - don't be totally alarmed by the dress code. The website says "creative chic" which had me worried thinking what I packed for my vacation wasn't fancy enough, but I just wore some dark jeans, a nice top and wore some flats. I think they mostly don't want people showing up in shorts, sports-related hats (actually I don't think hats are allowed) or sneakers. When you arrive, you'll see the bar is labeled Monkey Mash - that's their other bar. For us there was a lady waiting outside, but there was a doorbell that said "ring for cocktails" outside. She led us downstairs as if we were going to Monkey Mash, but on the landing of the stairs, there was a small hatch door, which she knocked on and then gave our reservation name. Then the wall opened as a door and we went inside Red Frog! True speakeasy! The space is very small but so cute and functional. Lots of fun photos from the prohibition area are on the walls, a nice back-lit bar and comfy seats and chairs. We ordered some olives, and two of their cocktails (each). The cocktails were creative, delicious and so wonderful. And honestly - not that expensive or as expensive as I thought they'd be (14-15 euro per drink). I'm so glad we were able to get a reservation here and we had such a wonderful time. i hope others can enjoy this place too! read more

Located right below Monkey Mash through a hidden entrance, this is another bar you need to check out if you're in the area! The service here is excellent and it is a smaller bar so a reservation is highly recommended as when we walked in, most of the tables were already taken up. I believe if I remember correct, this place does require a deposit when you make a reservation but it does go towards your bill at the end. They also offered some great cocktails and we did order a small meat and cheese plate which was delicious! The thin slices of Iberico ham was melt in your mouth and paired nicely with the aged parm cheese and crackers! For drinks we got the popcorn n' oil and zeppling funk punch which were both very enjoyable! A true speakeasy! We made a reservation and were in a bit of a panic as we were circling the street trying to find the entrance. The sign that says ring bell for cocktails was removed, so we ended up ringing a doorbell for what we thought was the right location, and it turned out to be right. We were taken to another bar, and told to wait, until someone from Red Frog picked us up and took us into a secret entrance. This place is super classy. Even the water was cucumber water. They have to have a disclaimer in their menu to ask people not to steal it. Every drink comes with some kind of flair that the server explains to you. I got the popcorn and oil which came with some chocolate with popcorn in it which was awesome. We also had a drink which came with a Szechuan button that supposedly changes your taste buds for a few minutes to make the drink really buzz. The service was on point, the ambiance was great. We came early (close to when they opened) so we had the whole place to ourselves, which was nice for covid reasons. We stayed for about two hours, and by the time we left, it was pretty much full (for all the seats). I would highly recommend making a reservation in advance (heard someone call on the phone and ask if they could walk in and it seemed like they were booked for the night and they could try but there could be a long wait by just doing that). Amazing, unique and worth a stop. We try to go to a "top 100" bar anytime we are in a new country for fun. This was our favorite by far. The drinks are all so well made, fun, quirky and taste amazing. The staff are friendly, really seem to love what they do and the snacks were great. The ambiance is fantastic. It is intimate but doesn't feel overcrowded or like you are on top of each other like I thought you would for so few spots. This is a place we would go back to over and over if we lived here! Yes - Red Frog is worth it! First off - I would recommend making a reservation. It is a small bar and worth booking ahead of time. You'll be given more instructions once you RSVP but they do ask you to dress up for the occasion as a heads-up. Second - looking for the bar? Go to Monkey Mash, and you'l be guided from there! The location is really neat, and I wouldn't have known any better on my own. Once inside, you come to a tight bar with a mixed amount of flavors - a classy bar upfront and both a modern and throwback lounge in the rest of the area. On a Thursday, it wasn't super, super busy, although I was told that September in general is a quieter month overall. I actually sat at the bar itself instead of a table, which ended up being a fantastic experience. I talked a lot with the bartenders; got front-row seats to the cocktail making experience; and got to talk to some of the patrons as well. Although the seat wasn't as comfy as some of the lush seats, I was really, really happy walking away from the whole experience. At least in my September 2022 stop - service was kind, friendly, and hard-working. These two bartenders were moving mountains to get drinks out efficiently, and I didn't hear a complaint all night. Instead, people seemed really happy the whole night - one patron even proposed at the bar where they were given special celebratory drinks. On my end, here's what I ordered: *American Gangster: Their take on a smoked old fashioned and was marvelous. The presentation is just as cool and loved the unique slight bite the drink had. *Vieux Carre: Not too harsh and just the right drink to start out the night for rye fans. *I needed food at a certain point, and although they didn't have the cookie cake, I did order just some queijo sao jorge. They have that same, quality sourdough bread that I found throughout Lisbon with quality cheese that helped me out! There were bigger items for those hungry as well. Prices seemed on par with a classy establishment and pretty fair to me in comparison with other classy restaurants/bars in the area. I paid around 40ish euros for all the above. I saw this on the list of best bars in the world for 2022 and decided to try to make reservations here during my Portugal trip. Very easy to make reservations online. We came back from Sintra and didn't realize where we were dropped off was close to this place. We arrived early and they let us in. There's someone outside that checks your reservations before allowing you in. When entering in, it's a nice hidden spot. The menu is provided via a QR code and it's an extensive menu. Like there was so many options that I just decided to ask our server what they recommended based on what I like. All the drinks were good. They have some small bites which was nice cause we came here before dinner. But they do keep an eye on how long you've been sitting. We got lucky that there wasn't anyone after us so they extended our time longer. Each reservation time is for 2 hours which is kinda short for Portugal time. But it makes sense since they are popular due to being on the list on best bars in the world. I'm glad I got to experience this place. You must have a reservation as the bar is inside a secret location inside another bar and entrance is via the staff. Once you do manage to get in you will find yourself in a fun and intimate setting where innovative takes on Prohibition-era cocktails are the rule of the day. Came here late during our first night in Lisbon last week. We probably arrived around 12:45am, and had to wait for a table for about 10 minutes. As part of the whole speakeasy vibe, they make you wait outside and do the whole buzzer thing, but the guy was really nice about it (unlike the ones in LA and NY where they just make you feel unwelcome). Once seated downstairs, service was really fast and attentive. Drinks were priced well below US and EU cocktail prices, especially for cocktails that were made well and strong. Lisboa has an abundance of bars. Whether it be on a terrace, a shack on the street, hotel lobby or even the top of parking garage. Lisbon has every option to enjoy spirits while taking in this beautiful city. However, it was below ground with no windows, that I enjoyed drinking my beverages most. Red Frog was an awesome experience. Ive been to speakeasys before, but to be in another country trying cocktails with local liquors and ingrediants made this unlike anything in the states. The room is comfortable and chic. With a pop out space thats accessible by pushing a bookcase. We walked over there after a long day's work and had a bit of a weird introduction, with them being persnickety about what table we were able to sit at. We came here on a weekday night around 1900 so we had the place to ourselves. The drinks are priced how you would expect (12€ +). The drinks are handmade, some with exotic ingredients and take about 10minutes to make. The drink I had was excellent! I had a Hawaiian drink. It was delicious and tasted very tropical. So delicious. Interesting concept, but could use some improvement. The decor of this speakeasy was cool, and the service was really nice and attentive. The lighting was far too dark though, even for a speakeasy. People used the lights on their phones to read menus. The temperature was also uncomfortably hot, like the heat was on blast, with no circulation. The drinks were all unique, but pretty odd combinations in my opinion. I ordered a Walking Dead thinking it would be the most subtle and it was incredibly strong for my taste. I would recommend mixing in some traditional or more complementing cocktails too. I was going to order the Espresso martini until I saw it included beer foam. The Red Frog was Amazing. Walking by the building, the true speakeasy feel of just a little red frog outside on the wall. We pressed the doorbell as instructed and waited to be greeted. Once inside, we were taken down very nice steps into a little cozy room. The decor was beautiful all red, and many frogs scattered around, truly keeping the theme. The menu was extensive and had fairly good descriptions of the drinks. We ordered the Old Crew, the Snap Lap Dance and a Pop Fizz, each beautifully mixed and topped with a unique edible garnish. Additionally, they came around with a little bar snack, which they kept refilling, and was a nice pre dinner snack. The atmosphere, staff and drinks were all amazing. Biggest props to the bartender, his technique was phenomenal and each drink looked extremely well hand crafted and intricate.
